90 minute cutscene? WTF, is this a game or a movie? Jeez, I hope that is just the ending scene or something.
5/24/2008 10:24:24 AM
there were some looooooooooooong ass cutscenes in MGS2 towards the end. going back and forth between Codex and cutscene over and over and over and over...
5/24/2008 10:28:14 AM
holy shit. better plan out ahead of time when you play this game. doubt I will . Cant see a reason to drop money on this thing unless I need a blueray player.
5/24/2008 10:39:14 AM
even if it is the ending scene, that still sucks. You're playing a video game, which means you're supposed to be interacting with the little men on the screen. Do you really want to be an hour and a half removed from participating when the game actually ends?
5/24/2008 11:32:12 AM
some people have been playing this series for years because of the epic storyline.
5/24/2008 11:45:58 AM
I saw another article saying that there were several of those cutscenes, I don't think it's just one...http://arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.ars/2008/05/23/mgs4-will-have-several-90-minute-cut-scenes[Edited on May 24, 2008 at 11:50 AM. Reason : found link]

The gameplay is always great in the series but I enjoy the plot/cutscenes so much that that is the reason I play the series.
5/24/2008 12:40:46 PM
http://www.gamepro.com/news.cfm?article_id=187049Looks like the 90-minute cut scene thing is an exaggeration. People who have played it have also said it has around 20 hours of pure gameplay, which is amazing considering the longest MGS thus far as been around 18 hours gameplay + cutscenes. ^Pretty much, complaining about cutscenes in MGS is like complaining about shooting in an fps, it's part of the game. I was actually excited to hear it might have 90 minute cutscenes It's going to too take a lot of exposition to wrap up this story in a way that's satisfying to the fans.
5/24/2008 12:52:49 PM
every mgs is like this. personally it kills the replay value. metal gear is definitely one of those series that peaks the first time you play it
5/24/2008 9:58:53 PM
is there some kinda mgs pack of some previous games for ps3 or xbox360?my ps3 isn't backwards compatible but I'd like to play the others before I get this.
5/24/2008 10:14:04 PM
yeah i saw that pack at game stop yesterday
5/24/2008 10:19:09 PM
heres the producthttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16879248059&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle-_-PS2+Video+Games-_-KONAMI-_-79248059now that I look at that it's for PS2 and you said 3, but i guess it would run on there. Some say ps2 games actually look worse on ps3 though.[Edited on May 24, 2008 at 10:22 PM. Reason : stuff]

5/24/2008 10:22:23 PM
well, if you just want the story part, every MGS so far has a previous story part on the menu where it summarizes the other games.
5/24/2008 10:25:33 PM
5/25/2008 10:53:48 AM
you can pause them
5/25/2008 11:23:37 AM
Look, all I'm saying is that it's a series convention. Kojima isn't going to change the way he makes games just because your tastes have changed. MGS is definitely not a series that clicks with everyone, and I guarantee you MGS4 will receive tons of backlash from people who don't like lengthy cut scenes or complex stories in their games, all the entries in the series have. I just don't see the point of criticizing something that you know you're getting yourself into beforehand. The cut scenes are one the things that sets this series apart from any other in gaming, I fucking love them. The nice thing is if your one of the people who don't, you can pause them now or skip them completely.

5/25/2008 3:26:44 PM
Uh, I'm not the one being defensive here. All I said is that I think it's a stupid criticism. That's my opinion. I don't think your trolling and don't care if you criticize the game. I already said that I understand this series has a lot of haters. If that's what you came here to do, have a ball. I just don't agree with you.
5/25/2008 3:54:44 PM
IGN just gave this a 9.9 (the UK drop anyways)
5/31/2008 1:29:23 AM
I'd like for this series to do something new.

anyone else going to the midnight release? I'll be going to one of them. Anyone wanna split a case of bawls or red bull sugar free?
6/1/2008 12:19:52 PM
dude, it's just a game
6/1/2008 2:40:37 PM
sure its just a game, but it's so engrossing I'm probably going to spend a week playing it non-stop. Ive spent over 180 days logged into wow and probably double that for counterstrike. Atleast this game has a story with it
6/1/2008 4:26:09 PM
where is there a midnight release?
6/1/2008 4:42:21 PM
I'm on the fence about getting this. I loved MGS1 and 2, but I LOATHED MGS3 (I know, I know). I don't even think I gave it more than three hours tops.Plus I'm strapped for cash. I may just camp Classifieds and buy a used copy once you guys beat it
6/1/2008 4:52:04 PM

6/2/2008 12:00:36 PM
I was contemplating buying the mgs ps3 and the guy at the north hills gamestop said it will be a midnight opening along with gears of war 2 (two separate openings, not on the same night).
6/2/2008 12:16:05 PM
why is gow2 relevant right now? haha
6/2/2008 1:34:20 PM
he was probably just saying that was the next planned midnight release.
6/2/2008 1:37:41 PM
Unless any of you guys are behind or forgotten a bunch, here's a quick video to get you ready for 4.http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/06/04/fox-news-does-a-metal-gear-solid-retrospective/
6/5/2008 10:51:05 AM
anyone mind saying what happened after you finish mgs1. I don't really wanna play through it for the 29374th time, I just can't remember what ocelot said about snake, liquid, and the president, foxdie, etc.
6/5/2008 10:12:03 PM
how about someone sums it all up in a couple of paragraphs
6/6/2008 12:04:49 AM
mgs1 - solid snake infiltrates shadow moses island in alaska per the request of colonel roy campbell. snake is to locate and attempt to rescue two hostages: darpa chief donald anderson and armstech president kenneth baker. both men die in snake's presence within minutes (the anderson snake meets is actually decoy octopus; the real anderson was tortured to death by ocelot) due to foxdie (injected into him by naomi hunter), a genetically engineered virus that induces cardiac arrest in persons with specific genetic markers. snake meets meryl (campbell's daughter); they fall in love. snake meets otacon; they become bff. snake discovers his old buddy gray fox is still alive and is cutting a swath through shadow moses in a cybernetically enhanced ninja outfit. snake learns of the les enfants terribles project - he is a clone of the big boss and that he is genetically identical to his nemesis, liquid (liquid also tells him that snake received all of the dominant genes). liquid tricks snake into activating the launch sequence for metal gear REX. with gray fox's help, snake defeats REX and liquid and escapes shadow moses with either meryl or otacon, depending on how you handled ocelot's torture. a still-alive liquid gives chase and almost kills snake but succumbs to foxdie. during the epilogue, you learn that ocelot was actually working for the US president all along (solidus, the third brother), that snake was actually genetically inferior to liquid, and that foxdie will eventually kill him (snake).

6/6/2008 9:32:47 AM
Hadn't played a Metal Gear game since the first MGS, so I picked up the 3-pack this week and started on MGS3. Hell of a lot of fun...MGS4 has just moved up to a "must buy" for me now.

But man i just dont think i'd have been able to wait 2 more months back then. Oh well. [Edited on June 7, 2008 at 5:25 PM. Reason : Add]
