While conceding the fairgrounds (or a portion thereof) to visiting fans may sound like a good compromise, it has it's serious practical problems.1) Even though visiting fans may not be as familiar with the environs, at least when parking at the vet school they have the option on whether or not to walk through the fairgrounds/student tailgates or down the road. It fairly well-known (and easy to determine when you get there) that the fairgrounds lot is primarily students. Contrast this with a scenario of the "problem students" walking directly through their tailgate area whether they like it or not. Also, in my experience visiting fans that walk through the fairgrounds have chosen to do that b/c a) it doesn't bother them, or b) they want to do a little taunting, trash talking, or good-natured ribbing themselves.I tailgated at the visitor lot one game last year (forgot my parking permit:beatup and a game the year before, and it seemed to be a much more laid back atmosphere for visitor tailgates, and there seemed to be pretty friendly tailgates. Now maybe this was b/c these games were not against rivals, but I tend to think that having that atmosphere and choosing which approach to take to the stadium is better for visitors than most of the students walking directly through their tailgates, if in fact the students are causing the problems.2) You are ignoring the fact that the visitor lots become the visitor lots because they don't require parking permits. Who do you think would be in the fairgrounds lot if there were no parking permits for it (have you been here more than one year)? Practically speaking, unless you come up with some solution that gets special parking permits to visitors whether they get tickets through their own school or not, visitor parking will be non-permitted free or cash parking lots.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Also, be ready for plenty of nuisance caused by the trash that is Louisville Cardinal fans, if the Orange Bowl was any indication. At least some of their older alums seemed friendly.

please don't do that

come on guys sports should be about friendship and being polite! it doesnt matter if you win or lose, but how courteous you are to the opposing fans coming into your house!/sarcasm / pussification
7/18/2007 11:37:58 AM
If doesnt matter what is done (if anything), opposing fans will always be heckled....some teams more than others, but the vast majority heckle in fun or dont do anything. Last year we got out to the lot across from Wendy's for the FSU game about 7 hrs beforehand. This guy and his girlfriend from FSU drove up from Tallahassee and pulled up beside us and started asking us where the stadium was, yada yada. They ended up tailgating with us and everybody had a blast. Nobody insulted them. You bet your ass we heckled them, and they did it right back. Shared a nice number of beer bongs together too. Now if it would have been a UNC fan.....

I guess what Stafford's group must not understand is this:Opposing fans always create drama when they travel with their team to other schools (especially when they beat that other school on their home turf). It does work both ways, too. Try getting out of FSU/GT/UNC/MD/BC/even VT without being heckled and you cannot do it....The main difference between Pack fans and other ACC school's fans is that when opposing teams' fans try to rally, we won't have that shit. We don't hesitate to respond no matter how nitty gritty it gets. We will not sit back and be like "hey look at those rowdy UNC fans over there trying to mock our team and fans in our own stadium. I wish they would just be quiet and I wish I had the balls to do something about it... oh well..." It ends up being more like "goddamn those tarhole pricks over there in that ghey-ass blue who think they are big shit. Lets go get em boys cause we don't take kindly to that shit on our own turf or on theirs" ~ I wonder which approach Stafford would want us to take??[Edited on July 19, 2007 at 12:43 PM. N.C. STATE FOOTBALLPack patrol: Tailgate nicelyPregame courtesy crew to reinforce good behaviorJOSH SHAFFER(Raleigh) News & ObserverRALEIGH --Hot wings? Check. Fried Twinkies? Check. Twelve-pack? Check.Just don't forget your good behavior. This fall, N.C. State University will send a crew of red-vested volunteers through Wolfpack football tailgate parties to promote courtesy and sportsmanship. They won't be adjunct cops, officials are careful to explain, and they won't be tussling with out-of-control fans."They're not supposed to put anybody in a headlock and handcuffs," NCSU spokesman Keith Nichols said. "The goal is more to reinforce good behavior."Students see the WITH Partners Program -- which stands for Wolfpack in the House -- as an alternative to the restricted hours that hampered tailgating last year.N.C. State strictly enforced a four-hour limit at games last year to curb alcohol problems, a rule established following a 2004 shooting that killed two non-students in a parking lot outside an N.C. State football game. Two N.C. State students were convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison.Chancellor James Oblinger approved an extra hour for the 2007 season along with the football ambassador program, hoping the combined changes would create a safer, friendlier atmosphere."I think the program is a great opportunity to shed light on all the positive students we have at N.C. State," said Zach Adams, senior class president.Student Body President Bobby Mills added that four hours wasn't considered long enough to cook a pig at tailgate parties. If the new WITH program fails, fans might also lose the extra hour that comes with it.The 40 volunteers will be assigned to specific zones at Carter-Finley Stadium or the State Fairgrounds parking lots, taking pictures of appropriate tailgaters and handing out information on sportsmanship, said Dick Christy, assistant athletic director.Ideas they will encourage: Respecting referees and visitors, cheering loudly but with appropriate language, and respecting fellow Wolfpack fans, especially young ones.Nichols said they would likely report tailgating rule-breakers, such as fans with kegs or flammable tents, by cellular phone to police.Mills said he doubts they will be taunted or jeered."People will realize the reason they're there and not berate them to any major degree," he said.WITH volunteers could be students, alumni or anyone associated with the Wolfpack family, Mills said.Asked about them Friday, sophomore Edward Godfrey said he doubts volunteers will be much of a bother."As long as they're not out there policing, they're not going to get in my way," he said. "But if they're going to be messing with me or my doings, that's not OK. If you're trashed, causing a nuisance, maybe you shouldn't be there. But it's not (the volunteers') place."______________________________________________________________________________

DO YOU HAVE YOUR HALL PASS YOUNG MANWhat a retarded idea.....but if it doesn't work (which it probably won't) will the tailgating be cut back again?

I could really care less about a silly PR stunt to stroke Tom Stafford's ego, as long as some hall monitor doesn't try to light my tent on fire or otherwise bother a peaceful tailgate. In that case, things will get ugly. Anyone know if they are wearing Jim Tressel sweater-vests or Lowe's employee style vests? Could be a funny sight. It's good to know though, that at least Stafford is using an objective measure of "things improving".

HERE IS AN IDEA FOR THE OPPOSING FANS: IF YOU DONT WANT TO BE HECKLED DONT WALK IN A PARKING LOT FULL OF DRUNK COLLEGE STUDENTSits so stupid, its like in those horror films, if you dont wanna die dont go see whats in the dark cave.so dumb...walk on the other side of the road and not where you see a sea of red, how stupid.
8/7/2007 12:48:00 PM
I don't get why those guys shooting those other guys is all hilarious to fans at other schools but you don't see them taunting VT fans with "lol Seung-Hui Cho you guys are a bunch of pussies that couldnt even keep from getting shot"
