I haven't played the game in DX9 yet, can you seriously not destroy everything like in DX10? My favorite part is mowing down trees then throwing the pieces all over the place.

http://arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.ars/2007/10/29/easiest-mod-ever-enables-directx-10-features-in-the-crysis-demo-on-xpWoops.Btw, in light of this games insane system requirements, is anyone else truly amazed by how well the Source engine runs, even on 2-3 year old hardware? With the graphical updates they put into Episode II, Source easily compete with anything else out today and it runs on the fucking consoles for god sakes. Hell, I think if you did a side by side comparison of the two, at the highest settings you could get them playable on your current PCs (assuming most of us haven't upgraded to the latest and greatest yet), Episode II would come out better every time.[Edited on October 29, 2007 at 1:38 PM. ^I'm just stupid and don't understand your post. You're comparing the hl2 source engine with the CryENGINE2 engine in crysis?I do really like the Source engine and it seems to do really well on older hardware. The graphics aren't that great compared to some newer games, but HL2 is one of my favorite games of all time. [Edited on October 29, 2007 at 2:30 PM. Reason : why is the wolfweb time an hour off? ^^I was thinking about that the other day actually. I just picked up Orange Box a few days ago and the source games run great on a computer that wasn't even top of the line back in 2005, and still look damn good. More than likely I will just have to get a completely new rig to run Crysis at it's highest settings (I think I may need a HAL 9000 for that...). I guess I better start saving though, how much do you guys think a new gaming rig would cost to run Crysis at max?
10/29/2007 2:30:38 PM
Hehe, the gaming rig that can run Crysis at max doesn't exist yet. But thanks to the new 8800GTs, you can probably get it running to the point where it looks better than anything you've ever seen for ~$1200.
10/29/2007 2:46:12 PM
Only 1200? Wow, I was expecting at least 2000. I need to do some more research.
10/29/2007 3:07:00 PM
It's a pretty good time to be building a new PC. Ram is dirt cheap, Intel and AMD are in the middle of a price war, and nVidia just released a new video card that is half the price of their current high end model but with almost equal performance.
10/29/2007 3:11:15 PM
interesting..possibly time to build a new machine
10/29/2007 3:18:43 PM
^^ Yeah check out the comparison. http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/10/29/geforce_8800_gt/page14.html#performance_round_up
10/29/2007 3:19:14 PM
I think I'm gonna just have to wait until after the holidays before I invest in a new rig. I wanna play now though Luckily there are only about 20 other new games that I have to occupy me between now and then.
10/29/2007 3:35:13 PM
Good Game
10/29/2007 6:14:17 PM
Another new beta driver released (169.04). It was released a couple days after 169.01 i think. It also boosts performance 5-8 fps.

The AI doesn't seem much improved from Far Cry. If I was Korean I'd be offended by this game.

^^ if you were korean you'd think living in a grass hut and walking along huge 4 lane highways that see one car a day represents the greatest country the world has ever known
10/30/2007 11:02:47 PM
Haha the vid of the AI in the water took me a few tries to figure out what was going on.
10/31/2007 7:34:17 AM
Goddammit, PC Gamer gave this game a 98%."millions of bank accounts just cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced....."

You can hack the demo to make every weapon and a bunch of vehicles show up to play with! Oh and you fight against the alien thing.http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/?p=522[Edited on November 1, 2007 at 10:43 AM. Reason : ]

Wow. That last video makes the AI look terrible... unless those soldiers were on the same side, in which case I'd upgrade the AI to "really bad."

Yeah i hope they work on the AI a little bit before the final release.

if you're going to be buying a gaming rig, no excuse to not build it yourself
11/15/2007 8:32:33 AM
That's the conclusion that I've reached. Do they price gouge on parts for the holiday season?

^Settings probably aren't all turned up. If you crank everything up to "very high" than the rocks look better. I can do it, but it runs at like 11-15fps.
11/15/2007 3:28:03 PM
ok good. maybe it was just the settings. no it wasn't a joke, i'm just sayin - crysis looks really good, but game graphics still have a long way to go before they start looking like pixar movies (in terms of quality, not style), not to mention real life
11/15/2007 6:55:01 PM
so is the razor release good ?
11/15/2007 7:18:44 PM
^Yup that's what i'm playing.
11/15/2007 8:31:53 PM
Scaled from 1920x1200 (all high settings except medium post processing and shader ~35FPS avg)
11/16/2007 1:18:39 AM
Better ones same settings
11/16/2007 3:29:52 AM
I was just about to post how impressed I was with those shots, but then I saw polygons on the cabbages its a hot game, though
11/16/2007 7:22:55 AM
I guess I'm really jaded when it comes to graphics. I didn't see anything in those screens that awed me. Of course those are screencaps, motion always makes it look better.
11/16/2007 8:26:23 AM
^^Yeah the shots are amazing. It's kinda annoying though how much better "very high" looks than "high" or "medium". I'm having to run shaders on medium to get playable frame rates, but everything looks so much better with shaders set to very high. Like the rocks in the screens BlackDog posted just look horrible when the shader is set at medium. They are blurry and boxy. (like in the last pic/firstpost on the beach that Blackdog posted) When turned to very high, they actually look realistic. Hopefully some better driver support/patches will come out or i'll be getting another GTX.[Edited on November 16, 2007 at 10:13 AM. Reason : .]
11/16/2007 10:10:41 AM
why so paranoid about graphics? just play the game already - not like any of you actually bought it anyway
11/16/2007 10:49:00 AM
I guess because the graphics are it's only true selling point. Take that away and it's just another FPS.
11/16/2007 10:53:46 AM
^That seems kinda silly then. Don't you buy a game to play it? Not just to admire the prettiness?[Edited on November 16, 2007 at 11:17 AM. Reason : .]
11/16/2007 11:17:12 AM
Of course, but when a developer doesn't have much of anything else to fall back on pushing your game as the one with the best graphics out there is going to be your best marketing tool.
11/16/2007 11:33:45 AM
http://pc.ign.com/articles/834/834614p1.html^After reading a few reviews your opinion isn't really the general one. I agree with the statment that the graphics are NOT the only selling point of the game. The real world interaction (yes i know it's partly due to graphics) is a major selling point. I mean yesterday i was trying to snipe this guy, but decided to take out a tree instead that fell on him and killed him anyway. I was also trying to take out a hummer and blew the tires and caused it to run into a fallen tree. Also the non-linear game-play is a great selling point. You don't ever have to take the path that your commander or whatever tells you. You can take shortcuts/longcuts and pretty much complete the missions however you want in terms of killling the enemy. You also have the option to play whatever type of character you like. Stealthy sniper, or max strength picking up guys and tossing them in the air. ^^^^I only complain about the graphics because there's such a performance difference between setting the shaders at very high compared to medium. I mean at medium the rocks/surfaces don't even look like a new game. It's only when you turn everything up does the game look REALLY good. I mean don't get me wrong, all the other graphical aspects are great even with shaders cranked down, but i just wish i could turn everything up.

I've read through some of the thread and saw a few specs vs settings, but anyone mind posting their basic rig vs what the optimum settings are ? I tried the auto optimize and it set everything to medium Ended up uninstalling vista a while back, but im gonna put it back on this weekend just to check out dx10. Is there only a difference in 9/10 when you use very high? is that why it's grayed out on xp?GA-965P-DS3E6400 Conroe 2.13GHz 8800GTS 640MB2GB DDR2 PC2 6400thoughts?
