This seemed like a good place for this question. For students graduating in December, when should we begin applying for jobs. Most of the jobs I plan on applying for are with local or state governments.

while i dont know specifically for government (altho i did apply to, and interview with a naval shipyard several times) I would say as early as possible. I started applying this past fall when i was graduating in the spring. So really, its not overkill to start looking this summer and continue throughout the entire semester.

I started looking a month after I graduated. That vacation was nice.

but not a suggested one...there are people who get screwed over by doing that. You can still get that 'vacation' without waiting until then you know.I landed my job around February I think, and I didnt start working until the 3rd week in June. (i was done with school the last week in april). So I basically had 7 straight weeks off, with *no stress* because I had a great job lined up when that vacation was over. I wouldnt want to spend the 'vacation' without a secure job. Another friend of mine is going to be making an absurd amount of money for his first ME job out of school and he landed it back in december, an entire semester before he graduated and doesnt have to start until august.

Sound advice. I wasn't too worried about finding something, though, because I knew I was badass.
