From Pitchfork:

just saw it last night. i think it was really good. i'd just be repeating everything you've heard if i told you my opinions about the awesome daniel day lewis, and the really unnerving score, but this movie is really an epic. it's a really well told story that will make you cringe a lot. Daniel Plainview will own you.
1/22/2008 11:58:44 AM
fuck no country for old men (big let down), juno (was cute), eastern promises, atonement (was epic) - this movie killed them - BEST MOVIE I'VE SEEN IN AGES - EASILY..i can't believe it's a pt anderson film - but that makes it even betterbtw - if anyone wants to see this for free live stream internet - holla[Edited on January 23, 2008 at 5:03 AM. i thought it was overlong. it wasn't horribly compelling. for sure daniel day lewis did a great job and so did the guy who played the young preacher. the story just wasn't all that interesting. i guess it should be expected from a movie based in part on an upton sinclair novel.
1/23/2008 1:24:26 PM
The preacher kid also played opposite DDL in The Ballad of Jack and Rose. Very very depressing movie.
1/23/2008 4:11:01 PM
i definitely enjoyed this flick
1/25/2008 1:37:41 AM
^^ and was the quiet kid in Little Miss Sunshine. Definitely a change of pace for him in this movie
1/25/2008 7:42:00 AM
^or how about his role as Clitsy in "The Girl Next Door"
1/25/2008 1:37:39 PM
i've only seen bits and pieces of GND. Did he play one of Emile Hirsch's geeky friends?
1/25/2008 2:21:30 PM
^^ Or as young psycho Ethan Hawke in Taking Lives.BTW Angelina Jolie gets totally railed in that and you see her boobs flopping everywhere during.
1/25/2008 3:55:47 PM
anyone found a working DVDscreener of this yet? All I have been able to find is a crappy Telecine version.
1/25/2008 4:43:24 PM
yeah you can get one for $6-8 at the galaxy

lol, I don't want to pay to see it.I am aware that I can go to a theater, I want to download it and watch it at home.
1/25/2008 7:57:25 PM
saw it tonight, i thought it was great.
1/26/2008 2:25:17 AM
^^ youre wasting your time not watching it on the big screen for your first go round. really shorting yourself
1/26/2008 2:39:50 AM
I went to the theaters to see it but the only reason I could understand people not wanting to go to see it is that it is over two in a half hours long, but this is one movie where you don't really feel that you are in there for that long, like Zodiac. I've been to hour in a half movies that seemed much longer.
1/26/2008 10:25:05 AM
I didnt feel the length of the movie ever. First hour of this movie is amazing. The beginning had a 2001 vibe (little dialog and haunting original music).
1/26/2008 12:10:55 PM
^^ this movie didnt seem long. however zodiac seemed like 5 hours long. that movie dragggggggeeddddd on and on.
1/26/2008 2:32:19 PM
saw this with some friends tonight and loved it, but one of my friends must not have gotten a good idea of what it was about cause he did not enjoy it at all. i thought it was great though. daniel day-lewis was amazing, i can definitely see him getting the oscar.
1/28/2008 1:15:56 AM
loved thisloved zodiac
1/28/2008 1:38:25 AM
DDL got the SAG last night
1/28/2008 7:11:16 AM
I saw it last night and loved it.**SPOILERS**I spent the entire movie waiting for DDL to get his come-uppance or for there to some sort of character arc. That fact that the film ends with him being an unrepentant bastard that beats Eli to death with a bowling pin for his own amusement was great. Oddly, I was the only person who was laughing when the closing credits popped up. I worry about what that says about me.[Edited on January 28, 2008 at 2:40 PM. Reason : .]

1/28/2008 2:32:31 PM
i mean, it's not a "fun" movie. you can't expect everyone would like it.
1/28/2008 5:17:28 PM
^^you misunderstood me. i meant it like:my friend must not have gotten a good idea of what it was about going into the movie because he did not enjoy it at all. when we came out he was confused about a lack of clear plot, and he said he thought there was going to be fighting or something. he said the trailer made it look much more heated.
1/28/2008 5:23:38 PM
SPOILER:there was some blood
1/28/2008 6:10:38 PM
Mr. Joshua, I've been saying "I'm finished!" any chance I get--so I'm just as fucked up I loved it too.
1/28/2008 6:54:06 PM
yesterday I was at home and my mom and grandma brought home milkshakes from sonic so I had to use the milkshake-straw line
1/28/2008 9:00:22 PM
Pfffft. I saw it last night and I've said "I drink your milkshake" and "You're a bastard in a basket" at least a dozen times since.
1/28/2008 9:49:39 PM
daniel day lewis gave me chills w/ that line - i love how i didn't know if he was a villian until about an hour into the movie
1/28/2008 9:55:59 PM
1/30/2008 2:34:08 PM
^ that's strange, actually, because after I saw it I told a few people I thought it had a vibe like a modern clockwork orange. The dark humor and plight of the protagonist were really similar in my opinion

Paul Dano got ROBBED for the Oscars...
2/2/2008 4:16:25 PM
2/2/2008 4:46:06 PM
Easily the soundtrack of the year. Stupid Oscar rules.
2/2/2008 4:51:43 PM
^^ WHAT?? its already one of my favorite movie soundtracks ever. it was PERFECT.
2/2/2008 6:34:46 PM
It sounded like someone broke a THX test.Unless at some point "lets hold the same obnoxious note for 20 seconds" became the apex of music and I never got the memo.[Edited on February 2, 2008 at 6:59 PM. Reason : .]
2/2/2008 6:58:52 PM
personally i thought it was great. even if it wasnt all composed originally for the movie, the movie wouldnt have had as much tension without that music in there.i think its a beautiful soundtrack. and jonny greenwood (from radiohead of course) couldnt have composed a more eerie soundtrack. i have it and ive listened to it several times and like it more and more every time.maybe in my top 5 favorite soundtracks ever. but thats tough to compare.edit:one of my favorite tracks from it:http://youtube.com/watch?v=-YgHi8z7rMwim also not sure that musically one single note can be annoying at least ive never run across one (unless it was played overtop of some chord that was just polar opposites of that note musically)[Edited on February 2, 2008 at 7:13 PM. did anyone else catch this in the movie? maybe it was some other rock formation in the US desert but if they did choose to film an australia they shouldn't have put such an obvious australian landmark in there
2/4/2008 4:15:13 PM
I want to take someone to see this movie who was disturbed by No country for Old Men. This girl didnt like it at all. Is There Will be Blood in the same league?
2/4/2008 4:19:35 PM
I would say so. The girl beside me was having some sort of break down by the end of the film and couldn't even watch a couple times.
2/4/2008 4:24:57 PM
There Will Be Blood actually isn't that cringe worthy.
