2 pages of gas sippin

At this rate, I think I'll probably just buy a 4-door Civic EX or maybe an Accord. I know how to work on both in my sleep (and hopefully won't have to).Camry styling = nyuuugggh. If I don't find either of the first two at a good price, then I'll swing for a Maxima. And theDuke866...YES, I'm gonna buy a FWD car.Thought about picking up a Miata, but that would just be waaaay too indulgent and inconvenient. That and I said I would never own a ragtop or a sunroof car. It's no fun sitting in wet seats, staring at the hole in your dash where the stereo once resided, and then having to drive around for two weeks with duct tape over the gash in your top until you can afford a new one.

You have a problem with sunroofs or something?
6/12/2007 1:40:01 PM
If the drain tubes are clean, then I have no problem. Older cars, however...I remember driving back from Winston-Salem one night with a buddy of mine, and water was an inch deep in the floor.Another time, the goddam computer shorted out. This was in my Teg.I had an 810 Maxima that you had to park just right in the rain or you would get in the car and throw 'er in reverse and get about a pint of water down your neck.NEVER AGAIN.
6/12/2007 2:54:46 PM
Just don't buy any more piece of shit cars and you won't have to worry about the sunroof. My 89 325i seals perfectly and opens smoothly after 18 years on the road.
6/12/2007 3:17:06 PM
If I don't buy any cars with sunroofs then I won't have to worry about a sunroof leaking...PERIOD.
6/12/2007 8:20:28 PM
After further financial analysis...I'd really like to cap things at 5000. I still have to look at finding a house to rent here in another couple of months.
6/12/2007 10:18:34 PM
the only e36's youre gonna find for $5k will be rough, so cross that off the list

^Not a bad idea. I might be able to Jew a few more dolla off for the $400 compressor I would have to buy. But lately I've had it with fixing AC shit. Not very good luck. You really do need the expensive tools to have a great success rate.
6/12/2007 11:02:42 PM
my gripe is fluid jobs....cooling system specifically. just about every fucking car i had there were coolant leaks, that nasty sweet smell, overheating. sick and tired of fixing radiators, thermostats and bleeding it while coolant is dripping everywhere.
6/12/2007 11:16:00 PM
6/12/2007 11:16:50 PM
Civic EX ftw
6/12/2007 11:47:34 PM
^^what?
6/12/2007 11:52:29 PM
^^They are great little cars. The only gripe I have about them is that the air conditioning in them can really load the engine down because they are geared fairly high. And the NVH factor isn't nearly as good as with an Accord. But in light of the hell-raising, bone-jarring truck I happen to drive now...why the fuck should I really care?
6/13/2007 12:18:09 AM
6/13/2007 12:27:46 AM
^^ what's NVH?new vehicle hard-on or something?
6/13/2007 8:08:20 AM
no vegetables homeboy
6/13/2007 8:18:01 AM
^^^LIKE A GOOD LEAK DETECTOR AND A RECOVERY MACHINE, YOU BASTARD!I really hate venting the stuff straight to the atmosphere; I feel like such a guilty bastard. So major leak fixes become a one-chance only thing for me, and the success rate is far from perfect.I've had R134 systems leak even though the system held fine under a complete vacuum for an hour or more. With the gage valves closed tightly.
6/13/2007 9:04:33 AM
why fiddle with rag tops when you can go targa top? I know, I know, can't be gettin a 2-seater, but I'm still driving the del Sol and it's in the price range you mentioned in spades.still lovin' the 95 del Sol as a DD, and you just can't beat going topless on the way home after a long bad day at work. But I must concur about the Maxima: fantastic car for FWD. My 90 was incredible.
6/13/2007 3:10:08 PM
^ no 90 maxima was incredible. and
6/13/2007 8:56:12 PM
^ you need a Z34 lumina /thread seriously though, its a decent car, friend of mine used to have one, its quick, gets damn good gas mileage, has a huge backseat, and is surprisingly reliable, i think it may have been a failed new school grand national comeback [Edited on June 13, 2007 at 9:29 PM. Reason : redneck edition optional]
6/13/2007 9:28:39 PM
in my highschool there was this weird, really skinny girl who was fucking like a 22 year old who would always roll up in one of those Luminas after school to pick her up. creepy.
6/14/2007 12:34:03 AM
every highschool had that creepy couple.
6/14/2007 1:02:24 AM
Actually, I think we had one or two 18yr olds that were fucking 50+...Whacked right outta their skull they musta been.BACK TO THE TOPIC: I will be looking HARD this weekend. The 280ZX may be the next one to the scrap yard, 'cause it's no good as anything but a track dog. And will require about 2k or 3k more in work before I feel like driving it. Worth it? Most likely not. It would be nice to have a track car, but I haven't done a road course in, oh, about 7 years. On the other hand...maybe I need another distraction...
6/15/2007 12:51:36 AM
you need to get a hybrid son
6/15/2007 9:20:51 AM
i can't see zx in a hybrid but i can see primer in a z34
6/15/2007 9:24:33 AM

6/15/2007 9:28:08 AM

6/15/2007 11:14:16 AM

6/15/2007 1:28:50 PM
^^I'm not retired, Joel...
6/15/2007 1:37:28 PM
buy my camry kthx
6/15/2007 2:25:16 PM
Nic...ya want too much for a car I don't necessarily want.Somebody will pay that...but I'd rather pay a little more for something that I want.Not to say that a 4-banger Camry isn't a FINE choice...because it is.
6/15/2007 4:09:00 PM
sup with that audi god posted? i'm in the market but have no fucking idea about car shopping.http://raleigh.craigslist.org/car/339331867.html

6/17/2007 1:03:11 PM

6/17/2007 1:10:07 PM
ahem...audi a4, thoughts? the more i talk to people the more i really want to see myself driving one, also recommended was the S4. But general consensus, on an a4, would be to wait for a quattro? i can't seem to find as many as i thought i would be able to on craig/autotrade/ebaymotors... but really...how painful would the maintenance be?/hijack zxappeal
6/17/2007 2:08:57 PM
^^ how u doing?
6/17/2007 2:10:39 PM
i wouldnt want to maintain an a4 (and i just bought a 10 year old BMW)
6/17/2007 2:34:12 PM
well i don't work on cars, i just meant spending $Texas to keep it maintained.what about finding one with low miles, like 50K or so?
6/17/2007 2:47:05 PM
I think I may have a lead on an e46 for ya, I'll forward it if it's still available. guy wants next to nothing.
6/18/2007 1:37:57 AM
someone find me zxappeal an a4/s4. kthx[Edited on June 18, 2007 at 1:53 AM. Reason : .]
6/18/2007 1:53:41 AM
^ jnpaul has considered selling his
6/18/2007 2:01:04 AM
dan what you are looking for is an es300 and you know it. you can find used for under 10k, it drives like a dream, looks and smells unlike shit, you can trick yourself into thinking its sporty, will seat 4 people easily, and itll get nice mileage. and its nowhere near as boring as a camry no matter if it shares the same DNA.
6/18/2007 10:46:56 AM
An ES300 is a rebadged Avalon. My MOTHER drives an Avalon. I think not.Though one of my good friends had an ES300, which I think he just traded in on a Toyota FJ Cruiser. Of course, Jon is a PhD with RTI. The car fits.
6/23/2007 2:40:05 PM
^did you come across any A4's in your search?
6/23/2007 2:59:47 PM
6/23/2007 11:06:47 PM
I think Avalon is FWD
6/24/2007 2:40:19 AM
so is ES300
6/24/2007 11:20:53 AM
