mac's are easier... it's the years of windows brainwashing lol. perfectly capable people have a hard time with OS X because they think it should be like XP. it's just not the mindset you can have when switching OS's like that. luckily for me, i've been able to use both for a good majority of my life so it's not that big of a problem to move back and forth. i can't ever imagine liking another OS more that OS X, and that's not without a lot of experience and thought. this is obviously just my personal preference; many are better off sticking with windows simply because it's what they know. i've seen macs that are blazing fast... and my current mbpro is easily faster than anything i've ever owned, and macs are certainly the fastest i've used.. i wouldn't count them out too quickly. as far as photoshop loading slower, that part doesn't really surprise me. i'm a free person... so i've more experience with GIMP lol.while XP is a decent system and after a million updates it's become a fairly solid one (relative to older times)... i've got a current beef with Vista so i'm a bit opinionated there. i say avoid it, at least for now.

^ I've been running 64 bit Vista for months now and i haven't run into any trouble. I to have used Macs my whole life, and I haven't seen anything faster than my PC with 64 bit vista on it. There's hardly any load times for any application, and browsers pop up before you have your finger off the mouse key. Even the Mac Pros are slow compared to this. She's not "brain washed" and doesn't expect everything to work like XP. She simply wants to organize her own folders and design her own folder tree instead of having the OS do it for her. That's nothing "xp". That's just general organization. Not to mention i game alot, and run various autocad software (Pro-E, Solid Works, AutoDesk, and 3dsmax.) Macs are just sad in relation to games, and most cad software doesn't come out for them. Don't say "boot-camp" because we tried that on my mom's Mac Book Pro, and it was very very slow. I'm with you on them being easier in some regards, and i do think my mom should figure out how to use hers. I just wouldn't spend that much money on one when i can have fun building my own desktop for half the price, and getting twice the peformance. [Edited on June 14, 2007 at 8:26 AM. Reason : .]

^ I know. I just found that site, and it just links to some other videos/articles. I don't hate macs, i just prefer PC's, and i've used them both my whole life ever since i can remember, so it's from personal experience. Actually going to the beach this weekend, so parts will have to wait till sunday night. Unless it rains then i'll be back.

the brainwashed comment was just a joke, don't take that personally,it meant that she was used to a different way of using computers.the 64 bit part helps a lot, i'm looking forward to a 64 OS X myselfyou can make your own folders in OS X, just don't use iPhoto (bc yes, iPhoto's organization sucks horribly) for the most part i keep up with my own organization, which you can do without creating an iPhoto-ruined librarygames are fine on Mac, i've run a few just fine, even on a laptop... more and more games are being made for mac, especially big name games/makers (see EA, i.d.)mac definitely isn't a CAD platform, but it ran just as well as any other comp i've used it on when i booted to windows vista 32 bit.boot camp isn't slow, at least it never was for me. Vista was very quick, i just didn't like it and you're screwed if you have old peripherals. network printing to xp computers always seemed very slow though, to boot.like i said it's personal preference and adaptability. i can do nearly anything i want to do on another platform just as easily in OS X, if not better, and yes there are a couple of exceptions to this that don't really bother me much.and... i want to go to the beach too no fair

Alright it's hailing in Charlotte and my computer parts are sitting at home just waiting to be opened. I hate getting all this new stuff and then leaving for 2 days, and having it sit. I guess i need to work on my instant gratification.

Just finished putting together my pc. Booted perfectly into xp the first time. Copper block was a little hot. My dumbass forgot to plug in the pump. About to install vista on the 10k.

Finished assembling my computer. Got it running perfectly with 2 gigs (2x1gb) of corsair ram. On the other hand i wanted to run 4 gigs (2x2gb) of pc6400 and when i install that i get a BSOD after the vista splash screen that says "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL". This is probably a ram issue and i've been messing around with various timings trying to fix the issue and bumping up voltages. A lot of people have been having this same issue with 4 gigs of ram on vista with this board, so until i can fix it i'm going to stick with the stable 2 gigs. Anyone know how to troubleshoot that error message?

Fixed that. All done. The Antec P180B is simply amazing. The ability to put most of the cables coming from the psu behind the motherboard (both side panels come off) is so great. I have it completely put together and there's hardly any visible cables.
