We have the Fresh Step Scoop Free self cleaning litter box for our cats and we think it is pretty awesome. I don't know about the Cat Genie, but I think that in general self cleaning litter boxes are more than worth the money that you pay for them. I think that this self washing idea is pretty neat.

can you train older cats to use the toilet?

^likely, with patience....My cat is the only one I've ever had, and he learned as a kitten...Also, I didn't use a store-bought toilet ring thing, they only have 4-5 rings, which I think is too few.I just used an old plastic popcorn bowl with a lip that fit the toilet, cutting the hole with a hack saw a 1/2inch larger every week or so.I took 6 months from no hole in the bowl, to no bowl in the toilet.........a small price to pay for never having to mess with a litter box ever again.

yeah but did you teach him to flush also?

^ahaI thought about it,but he likes to watch the toilet flush, just like that youtube cat, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AF2a0onhD2o)and I didn't want him to start over-flushing... You can buy a gadget that flushes on a 24 hour timer;just set it to flush in the middle of the night.Motion-sensor flushers are more expensive, and they might startle your cat into not wanting to go near the toilet....I use (and clean,) the toilet regularly anyway, so my routine isn't really changed at all.
