yeah it is sad that tipping has become the other way around. people feel they should tip well in order to get good service, instead of tipping well for good service. was your waitress kristamcneil

Im on legatic's side. This isnt my style because I always leave too big of tips just because its a bad habit of mine that I need to break. However, the service at that place is absolutely horrible. Its a cool bar but the service sucks dick. Most bartenders are losers. They get mad if the owner puts more than 2 bartenders back there because it cuts into their moneymaking potential. But then if people get ridiculously slow service because the bar is understaffed and they choose not to leave good tips, the bartenders get pissed.Bartenders work hard and they should make $150-$200 a night in a busy place. But the $300-$500 nights are ridiculous and if a bartender is making that kind of money because the bar is understaffed and he's giving me slow service then Im going to do my best to start keeping my tips to myself.PS, dont use a credit card in a bar. Most bartenders are thieves... .some steal from customers, some from the management... either way it's not worth the risk. [Edited on May 23, 2007 at 11:07 AM. Reason : a]

isn't this thread made once a month on here?
5/23/2007 11:18:39 AM
I didn't want this thread to devolve into a tipping practices thread and the issue isn't the price. if I just dropped $3 on the sidewalk I wouldn't be making a thread asking people to help me look for itthe issue is that I wrote down the tip I wanted them to have, and they charged me more than that. no, it isn't a lot of money, which is why they can probably get away with it in a lot of cases, but in a best case scenario it's incredibly negligent, and worst case it's downright illegal
5/23/2007 11:21:26 AM
it's just what they put on the card before you left a tip at all. seriously, this thread is made once a month. it will drop to your actual tip in a few days. if it doesn't, THEN you have a reason to be pissed off.
5/23/2007 11:24:27 AM
^no, it won't. my bank (ing) clearly shows what is pending and what is not. when it was pending, it showed the charge of the original tab (58). 68 is the cleared charge that has been taken from my account, and it won't change further unless I do a chargeback or something
5/23/2007 11:26:25 AM

If you know it posted, then take the advice and call the place! Management will make you happy, because otherwise they will have to deal with the bank, who wins almost every time.

^^How is the robber going to know whether or not you have cash until after they start the actual process of robbing you?
5/23/2007 11:49:17 AM
do they have an 18% rule for parties of 4 or more? if they don't just call your bank/credit card company and the bar, it's a simple process, anything extra they added for tip will eventually be removed. The card company takes your word on shit like this especially when you act real pissed off about it. Granted it may take a while to get resolved but were talking 3 dollars here.[Edited on May 23, 2007 at 12:17 PM. Reason : .]

truly the best way to handle this issue is to always tip in cash. when you go out to eat and pay by CC, draw a line through the tip area, write "CASH" beside the tip line, and re-write the original total on the total line.save your receipts. if you always do this youll never have confusion.its a hassle sometimes to always have cash on you, but at least you dont have to cash out for the whole meal.
5/23/2007 1:41:25 PM
Geez, I can't believe how many people are rambling on and on about how everyone waiting on you on a busy night deserves a 20% tip. That's insane. When I go into an establishment, I expect the waiter/waitress/bartender to EARN his or her tip. If you give me shitty service, I give you a shitty tip. If you give me awesome service, your tip will reflect that. Stealing $3 is bullshit and I would totally get someone in trouble and get my $ back.

I just called 'em.The manager on duty was pretty nice and understanding, and said he was going to go look for the slip, but said that he believed me. I'm going to go by tomorrow and he said he was going to process the refund for the $3.Not sure if he waitress or anything will get in trouble, as I assume it'll go down as a "clerical error" in that she just misread the slip or punched the wrong button. Not sure how often I'll be going back there, but if I do you better believe I'm going to watch that shit closely.
5/23/2007 2:24:17 PM
when ever i leave a tip with my credit card i put a dollar sign and an extra zero in front of the tip, so if someone tries to get me, it will be for an absurd amount and i will have no problem getting it back.
5/23/2007 2:28:22 PM
5/23/2007 2:31:39 PM
Sometimes when the bar/restaurant swipes your card they add an automatic tip to the amount and that's what is deducted from the available funds column, but when the transaction actually goes through (actual funds) it will be corrected.

5/23/2007 3:22:43 PM
^I agree. Perhaps the girl was just busy or having a bad day, now everyone there is going to remember you as a bad tipper, and a cheap ass that came in and bitched over $3. So I wouldn't expect to receive even "average" service the next time you go in there if you do plan on going back. They aren't going to waste their time to take care of you, if you aren't going to take care of them.
5/23/2007 3:26:25 PM
I cant believe some of you are so fucking stupid as to think the amount of the goddamn tip matters here.If the tip was mother fucking $0.00 US tender it wouldnt goddamn matter.Stealing is stealing. Shut the fuck up.

5/23/2007 3:33:06 PM
Prejudging tables like that is probably the best explanation for someone who will be working at a restaraunt the rest of their life. Equal service to everyone will be the best for you in the long run.Karma is a bitch. Both ways.
5/23/2007 3:33:42 PM
5/23/2007 4:33:06 PM
Its not prejudging when they are a known bad tipper. When I used to wait tables I would take care of my regulars who tipped better a lot faster than tables I had waited on that I knew were bad tippers. Not that the bad tipping table didn't get taken care of, they were taken care of and got what they needed, but I never went out of my way to make sure those tables were taken care of in a timely manner because I was too busy taking care of the tables that I know would take care of me. If you don't understand this, then you obviously have no clue how the service industry works.
5/23/2007 4:35:36 PM
5/23/2007 4:44:42 PM
There is no point in going out of your way to take care of a table that you know from previous experience is a bad tipper. Like I said, they still got taken care of, and new tables or people I had never waited on before got great service, but it is pointless to waste time on someone you know is not going to reward you with a good tip for your great service. If you want to be a shitty tipper, you are going to get average service.
5/23/2007 4:48:21 PM
5/23/2007 4:48:51 PM
Lets ask this. If someone stole $3 from you, would you call the cops? Nope. Why? Because its fucking pointless.
5/23/2007 4:50:20 PM
How about this, if something takes $3 of your money, is that ever ethical? For the manager of a restaraunt too, this kind of scares me that you would overlook something like this. It's credit card fraud, no matter how you cut it. If the waitress was taking $3 up on everyone's bill, you better believe I would arrest her ass.
5/23/2007 4:54:20 PM

I'd probably go in there with your receipt and ask to talk to the manager and calmly explain what happenedIf they even get a tiny bit out of line, start yelling and tell the other customers what happened...that will NOT be good for their business]
5/23/2007 4:58:04 PM
^^^If its happening all the time, then yes, I have had to fire people over this. Not saying its right, but if its an isolated incident, which this appears to be, then there is no fucking reason to be getting your panties in a wad. If the bitch did it all the time, she would have been fired a long time ago. Accidents happen, deal with it. You probably spent more in gas going down there to bitch about it than the $3 you got over charged.Hell, if you came to me at my restaurant, and bitched about $3, I would give it to you no questions asked. Because hey, you obviously need it.[Edited on May 23, 2007 at 4:59 PM. Reason : .][Edited on May 23, 2007 at 5:00 PM. Reason : ,]
5/23/2007 4:58:56 PM
that whole if you are a good tipper a couple times, you'll get better service thing is bullshit. On average at a bar, ill tip in excess of 30% percent, and if i know the people that work there, its more like 50-100%, and ive still gotten shitty service despite people knowing ive tipped them 100 percent before.just because you tip good in the past, dosent really mean your service will be better in the future, even at the same place.
5/23/2007 5:02:35 PM
If you came to my restaurant, and bitched about $3, I'd probably give it to you because it was your money, no matter how much it was. It's the damn principle of the thing: you're stealing money, you're just justifying it by how small of an amount it is. It's stealing either way.
5/23/2007 5:03:43 PM
^^Thats why you find a good server and request to be seated with them every time you go in. You don't have to sit where the host wants to sit you.I'll say it again. I doubt anyone here would drive back to a restaurant to repay $3 if you got home, looked at your receipt and you notice the waitress forgot to charge you for the drink you had. But I mean, its THEIR money, and you had a drink without paying for it. And as I stated before, thats stealing. And don't say you would drive back down and point this out to the restaurant and pay them back, because you know you wouldn't.[Edited on May 23, 2007 at 5:05 PM.
