as long as you don't believe that everyone else should follow the same rule, I have no beef with that.(pun intended)

I've never forced in on anyone. I see this as one of the main factors people are so turned off by it. If someone is interested they will ask/make their own decisions.Edit: Not saying I grow my own veggies, process soy, and extract nutrients...just that morally I have no problem picking a plant out of the ground if I had to. I would never go out and kill an animal if it was 8:00pm and I craved a steak while playing WoW.[Edited on May 10, 2007 at 2:36 PM. Reason : asfd]

come on, non-vegetarian parents fuck up and kill their babies all the time. just cuz the idiots made one enlightened decision once in their lives doesn't mean they aren't idiots

we're at the top of the food chain for a reason. pass the A-1.
5/10/2007 2:38:04 PM
No problem with that, learned very quickly that you are not going to stop people from eating meat by trying to take it away from them. Just lead by example.I never once have I told my GF to become a vegan. But since dating me and learning more about what you can and can't eat/seeing how easy it is to survive with a somewhat normal diet she actually prefers making vegan food now.

lol she's gonna quit when u break up
5/10/2007 2:48:58 PM
i don't have anything against eating most vegan food......as long as it comes with a t-bone.
5/10/2007 2:49:51 PM
just don't go to applebees
5/10/2007 2:50:51 PM
Did someone just try to equate starving your son to aborting a fetus? There's a pretty distinct scientific difference between a cluster of cells 3 months into pregnancy and a full developed baby about to be born 8 months in.Don't be THAT guy.
5/10/2007 2:57:14 PM
Vegan or not, a diet "largely consisting of soy milk and apple juice" could not possibly have enough calories for development/survival. Soy milk isn't suitable for babies that are less than 6 months anyway, but (as has been pointed out many times already) breast milk is. A vegan's breast milk is also significantly lower in toxins and pesticides. As a side note, it's not really recommended for any baby to have cow's milk or eggs while they're infants. Speaking from my own experience, I know many children (5 and under) that have been raised vegan, and it does take a great deal of vigilance/awareness on the parents' part. Although it is pretty challenging, you can raise a healthy, vegan child from birth (and though it's another discussion, they are many times healthier babies than their non-vegetarian counterparts). Typically vegans are much more conscious of their dietary needs and are more dedicated to supplementing their diets. These parents were obviously not, and veganism aside, they were negligent and incredibly irresponsible.[Edited on May 10, 2007 at 2:59 PM. Reason : *know]

^^well i didnt know the specifics of what to feed babies up to what age...however if i didnt know, i'd ask somebody instead of letting my kid starve to death

For some reason this thread reminded me of those parents who put their kids through the "re-birthing" process by rolling them up in blankets/rugs and having them "re-emerge from the womb". Not all of them make it back out alive

ALL OF THIS CRAP ASIDETHEY ARE RETARDED FOR NOT EATING MEAT
5/10/2007 4:18:05 PM
Ok, I feel obligated to respond to this thread. I have two children and am a vegetarian. I am raising them both on diets with no meat. Granted, we do consume some animal products (milk, fish, etc). I guess we aren't true vegetarians since we eat fish, but our diet is still limited. When my son was a baby, he was breastfed until I learned he had a severe milk allergy and had to be put on special super expensive formula (read $27/can). Now he is 2 and a half and eats tons of fruits and veggies, beans, lots of cheese, vitamin supplements, and a lot of soy protein. Everytime he goes to the doctor, his weight, heigh, iron level, etc, are perfect. My daughter is just 5 months old and I am breastfeeding her. She is getting rice cereal now too. I plan on doing the same with her as I did my son. People like this sicken me. It's not that hard to read a little bit and figure out what your baby needs. There are plenty of vegans out there raising perfectly healthy children. The baby should have been breastfed or on formula. They make soy based formulas, so he could have had that. Babies are supossed to begin solids (rice cereal) between 4 and 6 months and then babyfood at 6 months or later, therefore the baby couldn't have had mashed veggies or anything, just formula or breastmilk. He should have been eating at LEAST every 4 hours as a 6 week old. Oh and couldn't resist:

lots of people call themselves vegetarians and only eat mac and cheese. lots of christians are idiots. lots of atheists are nice people. lots of blacks are poor. lots of jews like money. it's ridiculous that someone as intelligent as you, bobby, would make a statement like "vegans are retarded" based on this case, when you've clearly argued against such pigeon-holing of religious people and the like many times.as for veganism, more power to you, but I hope you're taking plenty of supplements and/or eating LOTS of protein-rich plant matter, beans, etc, because otherwise you're going to be unhealthy. Human beings are omnivores. We wouldn't exist if we hadn't eaten meat, and there's nothing wrong with eating meat. Now, the way our civilization raises animals and processes meat, on the other hand, is completely wrong and barbaric.[Edited on May 10, 2007 at 5:34 PM. Reason : .]

I don't think the issue should be whether or not vegan is right/wrong. The fact is these idiots who are so concerned about not hurting animals KILLED their child. It doesn't take a scientist to realize if the baby was born a normal weight and got smaller instead of bigger, something is wrong. Besides, the baby would have died anyway. Without innoculations or mom's breast milk for maternal antibodies/defenses that babies need their first 6 months, the little sucker probably would have died with his first cold.

^^ Haha, some vegans like to be as with any fads that put you in the minority. Me, I hate the attention because most people try to make me a hypocrite. It makes me a target...I only enjoy the attention when I get to inform people who are genuinely interested in learning.

a diet rich in vegetables and fruits is several times better than the fast food shit that most americans shovel into their pie hole.not all vegans eat healthy, but more vegans eat healthier than your average american.
