There is a difference between getting hot and getting lucky. The White Sox were the best team for 5 months of that year... and then one of the worst for the other month. Credit to them they righted the ship when it mattered. Again though, nothing to do with the main point I made..

You listed a bunch of "good" teams with good, developed players that nontheless haven't really won the big one. The strategy of "playing to get to the playoffs" has failed more than it has succeeded in this Yankee era. Just ask the Twins and the A's. The teams that have won have shamelessly thrown too much money at above average players. I'm not saying one of your firecracker mid-market teams can't win a World Series, it's just a cheaper but less-effective strategy in the end.

Yes. I would have saved it for next year and put it towards Zambrano (if he hits the market). With the disaster that is Pavano coming off the books that $$$ could have been better used elsewhere. Of course, that's assuming I'm working within some sort of budget like every team in baseball not the Yankees.

What in his recent history would lead you to beleive he's not going to post absolutely nasty numbers? You better come with something better than "he's old". Clearly that hasn't mattered:

2004*: 18-4, 218 K, 2.98 ERA/1.16 WHIP/.217 BAA
2005: 13-8, 185 K, 1.87 ERA/1.01 WHIP/.198 BAA

He might be a six inning pitcher, but I doubt it. No WBC and he hasn't pitched for how many months? Plus, with the amount the Yankees are paying him I'm inclined to think he'll average 7 IP/GS.

and the answer is no

the sox could have offered him 30 million, but they didn't...and they told him he would come in later in the season after ample time to get worked back into shape

but the yankees needed something to a) stop the hemorrhaging in their bullpen and b) appease the fans, so they threw more money at Clemens than they pay A-Rod and got hime to come on over

which just further cements the answer to what roger will have on his cap in the hall...as Bill Simmons say, it'll be a big fat dollar sign

or maybe they didnt want him that bad. their rotation is in waaay better shape, and thats unbiased fact.

but if they did need him, and lets say the situation was reversed (Dice K) dont fool yourself into thinking they wouldnt

and yes Roger's cap in the Hall will not be a Yanks or Sox, but $teaxs.

I'm revising my prediction because I just realized a 3.95 ERA with the Yankees lineup would be good enough to post a better record.

I might be overrating him a little with that 3.95 ERA though.

uhhhhh, you dont think the 13-3 prediction is a little steep as well, considering he is a soon to be 45 year old pitching in the AL East?

The Sox, Blue Jays, & Tampa Bay (prolly not Baltimore) are capable of lighting his ass up on any given night.

I say he goes (going along with your 16 game theory) 9-7. I also think most people are failing to remember that even last year for the Astros, he was DONE by the 6th inning. That was about his max. I dont think this will be as good as everyone thinks. He'll run out of steam by early August, but he'll get wins because of the potency of the offense.
