I'm registered for the MSF course in Greensboro next month Something that I did not factor into my budget. How insane is insurance going to be for an almost 20 year old male? I have a pristine driving record for my auto insurance.
5/8/2007 1:39:48 PM
liability = $RI comprehensive = $TX
5/8/2007 1:46:58 PM
I'm 20 with a perfect driving record and my insurance is $400 a year for full coverage on a '07 ZZR600. It was only $140/year on my GS550.
5/8/2007 3:33:59 PM
^lewlzies ur the guy that pulled up next to me on my 600rr back in da day when i had it.

My favorite quote was from Geico for full coverage on a new Triumph Daytona 675: $6,000/year.The bike costs about $9k new. So, basically, they are completely convinced that I am going to wreck it within 1.5 years. Go figure. And I'm 23 too.
5/8/2007 4:10:39 PM
I have the policy on my truck with them also, so that probably helped lower the rate. It's Nationwide BTW.^^^ Might have been, my gs550 was blue. Did I do something stupid to make it memorable?[Edited on May 8, 2007 at 4:50 PM. Reason : .]
5/8/2007 4:48:27 PM
I pay about 120/year for liability+comprehensive. 24, clean record, geico, but all 3 of my vehicles are on the same policy. 99 R6. Edit: I've been told that adding collision drastically increases the premium.[Edited on May 8, 2007 at 7:03 PM. Reason : collision]
5/8/2007 6:59:41 PM
full coverage for my FJR runs about $650 a year
5/8/2007 7:40:38 PM
^3 wrong guy then. i thought u were on ur 07zzr or whatever. u locked up ur rear brake when u gave it too much gas and a car hit its brakes. if that's u.[Edited on May 8, 2007 at 7:43 PM. Reason : d]
5/8/2007 7:42:40 PM
I’ve had the zzr since Oct. And the only time I remember locking up the rear was when a car cut me off at the corner of centennial blvd and avant ferry.
5/8/2007 9:03:51 PM
full coverage on my 07 gsxr600 is only $400 a year through nationwide
5/9/2007 7:33:27 AM
^ Did you live on Trailwood Pines a while back? I was in building 2900.
5/9/2007 11:08:30 AM
^yeah...i was in 2950
5/9/2007 12:29:11 PM
My roommate had a man crush on your gixer, he's riding my old gs now. He's downed the thing bad twice so far and would probably be dead by now if he had one of those. Anyways didn’t mean to highjack the thread. The gs550 was a great bike to learn on; I only dropped it once in a parking lot with no real damage. Not a lot of power, but you won't get run over on the highway either. And best of all, they’re super cheap. And you should definitely take MSF basic course, and the advanced one later on. It’s a lot better to learn that stuff in a controlled environment from a professional then on your own in the street.

^i know....diff between the 6 and 750 was like 400 a year for me, so double
5/9/2007 2:52:28 PM
Well, I finished my MSF course this weekend.... I suppose I passed with flying colors ( only losing a few points on stopping distance).I've decided on an SV650 for my first bike... I've seen copper colored SVs around, hopefully I can track down one of those
6/18/2007 5:01:03 PM
congrats and nice chose of bike i really like mine you goin naked or s model?
6/19/2007 12:00:47 AM
Going S model I don't dislike the naked models at all, Im just prefer the more agressive styling of the S model. Working on tracking down an 03 copper S model, they look so awesome with that unique color!
6/19/2007 12:13:05 AM
right now i dont have the resources or ability to get my own bike now. i want to get a nice hog but until im on my own i really cant because the parents would cause problems.but in good time, ill have my truck and a bike and thats all i would need as far as vehicles
6/19/2007 7:47:12 AM
damn full coverage for me through geiko was gonna be 4000 on a ninjahaha
6/19/2007 11:55:20 AM
I've been looking to get/learn how to ride a motorcycle would either of these be a good option?http://raleigh.craigslist.org/mcy/355979017.html1989 Hawk GT / NT650 V-twinor http://raleigh.craigslist.org/mcy/355799968.html2000 Buell Blast
6/20/2007 8:52:18 PM
^i'll wouch for the hawk, nice begineer bike that you wont outgrow too quickly (if ever) and reliable as a tank. i have one going on atleast 50k without any engine troubles. def the most fun bike i ever rode too.buell blast will be a lot more underpowered, vibrate like a bitch, and leak oil. ask Squirt. i'd take a xb9/12 any day and deal with oil leaks, but i'd pass on the blastthat hawk need to be around 2k for it to be a fair price. they are a cult bike and are often overpriced like this prime example. also, that color looks goofy.[Edited on June 20, 2007 at 9:47 PM. Would anyone know what sort of gas mileage would the 1989 Hawk GT / NT650 V-twin get?
6/21/2007 9:14:19 PM
that is by far the gayest picture i have ever seen in my life

^oohhh so true

6/21/2007 11:14:08 PM
i have ridden several sv650's and they are an absolute blast, power is not everything, and that is a damn good handling bike, even since i've had my fjr1300, you put me on a sv650 or even a 750 virago, on a mountain road with short straightaways, i could hang with damn near anything, i schooled some nig on a gsxr750 with a 920 virago, 6 miles at hawks nest and he never made it to the end, lost sight of him in my rearview mirror after the fourth turn, and smoked a couple ciggarettes, then went back when the rollback was headed up the mountain[Edited on June 21, 2007 at 11:23 PM. Reason : i need to replace the feelers on my FJR, they've worn so short, i drag my center stand and mufflers, best and worst advice i have, get some good gear and go balls to the wall, don't be afraid to lay it down, the road aint that tough][Edited on June 21, 2007 at 11:26 PM. Reason : i'll be posting still pics from the last WV trip soon, 12 hours video to go through][Edited on June 21, 2007 at 11:27 PM. 6/25/2007 3:31:33 PM
Yeah you almost threw him off when we rode I think its a guy thing... I don't seem to have any problems adjusting to the clutch and the throttle....[Edited on June 25, 2007 at 3:40 PM. Reason : asd]

Make sure you buy gear, dont spend more than 2k on first bike, try to get a 600, be ready for a mishap or two, and realize that its not your final bike and you can alwasy upgrade.Be happy, find good people to ride with, ones that will look out for you. try to listen to people if you can, dont try to ride beyond your comfort zone, its okay to ride in the back for a few months until you feel comfotable. Just like being a ninja, it takes time, i mean When your a starter ninja, you dont go out and try to like Assinate the emprror, you like kill some lowly pesant who killed your fathers for revenge (i mean isnt that why people become a ninja). Then you work your way up, you know local thugs, a couple of drukyards that accost some poor geisha, until next thing you know you and your geisha friend are arranging a foray into the emperors palce. You sneak in using her as a distraction and hit the emperor with a NINJA STAR, coated in SNAKE VENOM. Then you become the GRAND NINJA.But just like motorcycling you dont start out as the GRAND NINJA, you start out as squid, and youll do things like me and try to start the bike in gear, or forget its in gear and let off the clutch and almost wreck at cookout and have people look at you like . but it gets better[Edited on June 25, 2007 at 3:56 PM. i mean, it's not a big deal at all... I'm pretty sure I can sell off a key to a '01 SV650s to some guys on http://www.stuntlife.com or http://www.wera.com pretty easily for the cost of the chain lube/cleaner. [Edited on June 25, 2007 at 5:38 PM. Reason : owned, imo]

I was more wondering what the gas mileage just to do the cost analysis on driving a bike vs my car. Of course it would be hard to factor the fun of a bike into a solid $$$ amount.
6/25/2007 5:40:22 PM
Hey! the fun factor is definitely ten fold! get a bike!
