I've been a landlord so listen up. 99% of the time you signed a lease that says all THREE of you are responsible for the total rent. How you divide it up is your own business. Turn off his power in the fuse box. Take the cable off his TV by removing the cable. Passlock the TV's (if you can). Find his parents # and call them.

call his parents? give me a break.
4/26/2007 11:34:19 AM
everyone knows when rent is duethe same damn time every month
4/26/2007 11:52:00 AM
^^If his rent's due and I knew his parents fed him rent money and MY credit standing was on the line, fuck yes I'd call his parents
4/26/2007 11:57:47 AM
ok, i could understand if they co-signed for him and were paying his rent...thats a completely different situation.[Edited on April 26, 2007 at 12:49 PM. Reason : e]

ha ha btttYeah I dunno.. my roommate has fallen off the face of the planet and the power company is threatening to cut our power off... I would feel bad if something bad happened to him but i can't up with him
7/8/2007 11:15:52 AM
so what are u gonna do?
7/8/2007 11:16:57 AM
find the dude's parents number and see what the hell is going on.. this is pissing me off
7/8/2007 11:17:29 AM
when does the lease expire?
7/8/2007 12:10:18 PM
If you post his name, TWW will find him.
7/8/2007 12:12:13 PM
7/8/2007 12:13:19 PM
Is this Cif82 or tkeschultz?
7/8/2007 12:33:25 PM
^^imho I'd have to go with "no" and the lease probably says you can't do that anyway
7/8/2007 1:09:49 PM
NC law won't let you do that. you have to give an occupant of the house 30 days to find a new place to live
7/8/2007 1:11:34 PM
Well, that's fine, presumably you gave him at least a month to come up with the rent.
7/8/2007 1:36:01 PM
^^That law applies to the owner. It says nothing about the roommates doing that.
7/8/2007 1:49:06 PM
They wont cut the cable off, that shit has to be like 3 months late before they cut it off. Since he is never home I doubt he would notice if you had it cut off it would be an inconvenience for you. If he lets the power get cut off they might require a deposit to turn it back on. That would really suck. I would really try to avoid that if possible. I guess your best course of action on that one would be to get it turned back on in your name if they really turn it off. (Tell them you just moved in or some shit) Then just don't ever give him your money on that bill since he fucked all of you on it. As far as the rent its definitely a good idea to let your landlord know what is going on. It wont absolve you from any responsibility for it but at least they will know who the culprit is and if you offer them a partial payment they might accept it and continue to call him for it. My GF's ex roomate fucked her on the last three months of rent. She went up there and talked to them and they accepted her half of all that rent and a bunch of fees, then released her from the lease and filed an eviction on the roomate. They did not have to do that but some money is better than nothing so they did.
7/8/2007 1:59:45 PM
When your friend signed the lease, did you guys have to have a co-signer? I mean, there has to be SOME documentation to contact his family. My roommate did this to me sophomore year and I called up his mom. She came down and reamed him out in front of me and our other roommate, and made him apologize to me since all the bills were in my name.
7/8/2007 5:54:30 PM
def talk to your landlord don't make excuses but explain the problem and see if they'll work with you
7/8/2007 6:01:30 PM
7/8/2007 10:04:03 PM
and its probably true

I actually thought about it.. Is that not sad? But I couldn't do that I may be a bitch sometimes but not to that extreme
7/9/2007 9:16:16 AM
to be honest though, if he isn't living there, he isn't really using any electricity, and therefore shouldn't have to pay you anything for it.

i dont get how you got such a shitty roomate
7/9/2007 9:52:06 AM
aren't you all getting kicked out anyway? i'd say fuck it...you and the other roommates pay your portion of whatever bills are in your name and let him deal with the bill in his
7/9/2007 9:59:44 AM
I don't think he's all that bad... Just not very responsible... I mean he's 23 or 24 and still relies on other people to make sure his shit is taken care of for him. I mean when my mom shoed me off to college, I pretty much had to grow up and figure life out. I have never neglected ANY of my bills... I mean and his parents pay for his shit so I don't see what the big problem is getting this done on time and keeping in contact with the other people that share the responsibility....I hope one day life will kick him in the balls if it already hasn't^ yeah thats pretty much what I decided... My other roommate insisted on opening up the elecrtic bill in his name and paying it because he had gotten like a third notice. But the electric company doesn't just shut the power off after a few days of not paying it... I am tryin to think if my roommate actually paid the bill no or took our money... 7/9/2007 10:56:23 AM
^^Kids like that are the same ones that actually go and get the bill money from their mom, then spend it on other crap and screw the roommates. They are too embarrassed to go ask mommy for money again and figure its easier to dick over their roommate who may actually have to earn their money.
7/9/2007 11:18:34 AM
Yeah and I bust my ass to pay for everything of mine... I can't stand to ask my rents for money
7/9/2007 11:25:56 AM
^^what he said

How much time is left on the lease? I had an August->August lease and one of the roomies went home for summer and never came back. The other 3 of us were responsible for the rent but we also kicked in to go to small claims. Never got any $$$ but we did get a judgement to show up on his credit report for 7-odd years. Here's a thread about someone taking roommates to court over stuff like this: http://thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=453429&page=1I had another roomie that decided to fall behind on the phone bill. He had money to buy $350 worth of records a month but couldn't cough up $15 a month for his part of the phone bill. After 2 months of that I told him he was free to call BellSouth and get his own phone line installed and disconnected all outlets but mine. Every time he complained I threw a quarter his way and told him to go to the corner pay phone. -- Dave

Its illegal to sell his stuff... its his stuff, I tried to do that when somebody owed me 2 months rent and my lawyer told me very adimately that even though he owed me money it was absolutely illegal for me to sell something that wasn't mine, even if he did owe me money.
