Just to play devil's advocate1) video card - ~$200 (less than any console system on the market), the rest of the computer i'd hope you would already have... 2) no windows version uses more than 2gb unless it's 64-bit or server OS or uses the 3gb switch, for that $200 you can get a good card with 512mb of video memory3) i don't know of any out yet... maybe Virtua Tennis 3 is.4) the Wii has on-remote power button... 5) you can USE GAMEPADS on the PC, PS-type or Xbox-type... 6) you can PLUG-IN YOUR PC to your TV, yes even in HD!... 7) with a media center remote, you can even TURN OFF YOUR PC from your couch!... 8) MOST games that come out on consoles come out for PC as well...[Edited on April 24, 2007 at 12:31 AM. hey, look at it this way, the PS3 at least folds (folding@home) better than the PC
4/24/2007 12:28:00 AM
"the rest of the computer i'd hope you would already have"ha, i have a laptop for work but my "gaming pc" is quite dated. its a AMD 1800+, the motherboard is maxed out at 512mb of DDR (266 Mhz), and i just upgraded the graphics card a few months ago to a 9600 Pro, which is bottlenecked by the motherboard's 4x AGP slot. you could argue that i don't play PC games very much.not that i play console games much anymore either. i spend much more time (and a lot more money) shooting pool these days.anyway, more pissing contest: the graphics cards people were quoting earlier (8800's) are not $200 cards, that was my point with the ram, i don't have a wii and won't until brawl comes out, i can use gamepads on consoles too, and it plugs into the tv. smash bros is not on pc, halo is on pc but like 2 years late, PGR3 is not on PC. but, UT2k4 is on PC and i do prefer it that way. also i can't imagine playing something like WOW on a console, but then again i don't play those games either.
4/24/2007 12:50:41 AM
Both have their uses.Sometimes I like to sit on the couch in the living room playing something with 3 friends, in person, on my tv, rather than sitting in my computer chair playing by myself on a 19' screen.I probably play more PC games than console games, and have a nice gaming computer, but I don't pretend like it is superior in every way.
4/24/2007 1:22:31 AM
most people who play video games on their computer keep up with it at LEAST every 2-3 years enough so that one or two upgrades max if they needed to, to play a recent game, granted the lifecycle of a console might be longer (3-4 years)my #5 & #6 were to refute consoles "pro's", the fact that you can use a gamepad for a PC or a console, but you can't use a mouse on a console.and who the heck needs a 8800x to game? get a 7900gs for $110-130AR nowadays, or spend $200 and get a 8600x

Anyone who has ever hooked their computer to a tv and tried to game would know better to even think that was a plausible solution worth the time to argue. It sucks ass, period.
4/24/2007 8:26:27 AM
^i do it, i have 2 gamepads and remote, it's a non-issue, quite frankly i have no idea what you would think would suck so bad about it
4/24/2007 8:42:36 AM
i'd still much rather shell out 1200/yr, no wait, subtract ~600 from selling old parts ... i'd rather spend 600/yr to build an entirely new mid/high range gaming computer than drop 600 bones one time on the ps3 or x360, since i can't even upgrade those, exception granted to an hddvd or hard drive upgrade. however, i have no problems with the wii, it's only 200. maybe i'm in the minority though.
4/24/2007 9:25:06 AM
^kinda hits on my point, you can't replicate the Wii on a PC like you can the xbox/ps3but to each his own, for high-end graphics, FPS's, and online gaming, i'll stick to my PCfor playing with friends around the house and for overall game playability (like swinging a wireless remote around)... i'll stick to my Wii
4/24/2007 9:47:48 AM
Quinn must have a shitty ass TV or not know what the fuck he is doing. i have my computer hooked into my 52" and it's fucking sweet

Yeah after playing multiplayer on a PC I grew to hate splitscreen on consoles because a) the opponent can see every damn thing you are doing (eliminating most sneak attacks and stealth) b)it's a lot harder to see what you are doing in some scrunched up half of a screen unless you have a huge ass hdtvPlaying in the same room with your friends is cool and all, but I really only like that for games like Smash Brothers or party games where you're not actually seriously hindered by such a limited view of your own screenSome of the best gaming moments I had was playing the original Ghost Recon on pc, where my friends and I would play deathmatch at night in a forest, sneaking around and stalking each other with night vision, silenced weapons, etc. I remember sometimes I'd literally jump when all hell broke loose because when you didn't know where people were you were seriously on edge with the sound turned up high to hear footsteps even....[Edited on April 24, 2007 at 11:18 AM. you just have no idea how ill i am. just because you and your posse needs a mouse and can't use a controller does not mean that i can not use it to it full potential. don't worry, this will all be settled when xboxlive integrates pc users.
4/24/2007 12:01:27 PM
lol keep telling yourself that. And I don't have a "posse" and haven't played a FPS more than a couple times in the last few years. I'm sure you do use your d-pad to it's full potential but sadly that full potential is less than that of a mouse. Also unless xboxlive is free for PC users, they won't use it.
4/24/2007 12:07:55 PM
^^oh he be illin it's all good man, you know that this is just the same old fanboy argument thatll never be conceded by anybody[Edited on April 24, 2007 at 12:08 PM. Reason : ]

do you have a console? if not you cannot say anything valid right now.
4/24/2007 12:09:00 PM
4/24/2007 12:10:36 PM
^^ I'd argue you don't have to own a console to have a valid point about them but anyway... yes I own several consoles. I haven't been into gaming much recently, I guess a job does that to you. As far as FPS'ers go, over the past 4-5 years I've definately played more on the console than the pc. It has to do with ease of use... it was alot easier to hook xbox's to the LAN and play 16 player halo than it was to install a PC FPS on 16 peoples computers and hope all of them have enough horsepower to run the game.I've also played on xboxlive and was in the alpha and beta of it (brother works for M$). I've played a good deal of xbox360 (although I don't own one, no need right now) and overall its no different than my time speant on xbox. There is a reason that most console shooters have autoaim built in (and in most games can't be completely turned on ex: halo). The d-pad.

4/24/2007 1:08:40 PM
maybe you are not just good with console games. just for the record, i never said i would be better, i am saying that you or anyone with a mouse could not over run me. i would even bet on it.
4/24/2007 1:14:42 PM
i would take that challenge... if there were a way to set it up w/ proofi kill better with a rifle from the hip than anyone with machine guns
4/24/2007 1:20:15 PM
when xboxlive integrates pc users that is when we will settle this.
4/24/2007 1:21:34 PM
sounds good.what game? i'll have to practice again i haven't played much since i got the 360 but i know i'm 100x better with a mouse.
4/24/2007 1:26:41 PM
cod3all i have to say is don't get mad when my rifle grenades, land mines, and artillery strikes kill you. fps's are not all about shooting. also, don't get mad when you can't figure out where i am sniping you from.[Edited on April 24, 2007 at 1:46 PM. Reason : dghj]

if support gunners could use rifle grenades it would be the gayest class of allt ime.
4/24/2007 4:14:28 PM
naw, i don't hide, and not only that if you have a mouse you should do better than me according to your theory about the precision of a mouse compared to a controller. anybody who plays video games knows a mouse is more precise, but the argument here is that i would not stand a chance playing you with your mouse against my controller.

Didn't some version of Unreal Tournament on the Xbox have console-PC play? Like Unreal Championship or something?

4/24/2007 6:31:49 PM
^^^check out powerstrip, it can fix that, set it up once and you're done, in fact a lot of TV's have a mode to adjust that, overscan is a TV issue, not a PC issuealso overscan is only an issue with analog signals, go DVI / HDMI and you shouldn't have any issues[Edited on April 24, 2007 at 7:54 PM. i just wish alot more console games were available on for pc. the ones that are available for pc sometimes have far inferior graphics and gameplay than the console versions, especially sports games.
4/25/2007 8:01:18 AM
You know what really gets me?why console fps players would want to play at 640x480 resolution, 25 fps and lying down on their bed. lazy asses.
4/25/2007 8:24:10 AM
how bout 1920x1080 @ 60hz? sitting on a stool 5' from an big ass lcd with a 140watt x7 (5.1 w/bi amped towers) stereo ?cause i sort of enjoy that...]
4/25/2007 8:58:44 AM
yeah i know, you get a tan while you game amirite?
4/25/2007 9:06:19 AM
most sports games are better on consoles...and you'd just be deluding yourself if you think you could hang on a console even with a mediocre FPS player using a mouse...and then you'd "blame" other hardware differences, like the extra 2 gigs of ram, or the 1 ghz more processing speed... or something....now i was pretty good at perfect dark and golden eye back in the day, but I hold no delusions over the differences between console fps and computer fps...
4/25/2007 9:58:20 AM
if you have friends that like to be physically present to play with you .... then.. nintendo, genesis, ps2, ps3, xbox, xbox 360, wii, N64, atari > pc
4/25/2007 10:01:13 AM
i bet i would get more points in space invaders on the atari EVERY game than you would with a mouse because i know the maps so well, and am so fluid with the controls you would have to see it to believe it, and to top that off i play without the reticle and the sensitivity turned up high. you wanna try me?
