When I heard the news I guess it hit me pretty hard.

I idolized those guys as a kid growing up

My dad called to see if I knew him.... I was like.... "I don't fucking hang with jet guys, AND he's like 10 years older than me, we wouldn't hang out anyway"

ITs like the cherry point airshow coming up. No angels or birds, whats the point then? HAs anyone seen that show on Nat''l geographic channel about them, it was very interesting.

There is a video on CNN of the plane. It looks like he clipped the trees (as the news is saying) becuase the plane shoots through the formation all out of control. Also, What happened last time they lost a pilot at an airshow? News says it was like 1985? or 88 or something like that..

They have other pilots (#7 and #8) who are qualified to fly with them, would they take over, or get a new pilot since #7 and #8 generally do the PR for the team?

edit: So I just watched the video again. It's not as out of control as i thought. Also, As the news is saying "he clipped a tree". I am thinking G-loc is a possibility... watch the video and see that after turning into formation the jet never pulls out to level off..... it just keeps turning into the ground at low level.

They dont replace, they call up ont of the solo guys to fly formation until they can call up a replacement from prior years that flew the same # in the formation.

well, besides that, there will be investigations about the crash, not to mention getting practiced back up after downtime...and most of all, getting back into practice with a new member.

local news down here reports practice cancelled today, show cancelled this weekend, and no decision yet about the rest of the season

they fly over my house every time they practice locally or come home from the road, so i'll report if i see them doing anything.

these two were taken from my backyard

this is from the Pensacola Beach airshow 2 summers ago

ECMO going to VAQ-129 for the FRS ("RAG"), then heading back to Cherry Point for either VMAQ-1,2,3, or 4.

They kicked fucking ass yesterday. #6 DID fly about 2/3rds of the show, but for the last handful of passes he just landed his plane and watched. Better than not having him up at all though. Damn good show.
