no i just attack stupid ideas

it just so happens that TSB has more liberals who hence make more threads with hence more stupid ideas

funny...thats what i was doing with joe_schmoe and his admittedly stereotypical assumptions

if i was so much of the biblethumping gun toting redneck you and your pals like to stereotype me as, wouldnt i at least vote republican? i think some dems and reps simply cant comprehend that someone doesnt particularly care for either side

oh well, i guess theres one thing in this *opinion poll* that i do believe based on ^ this post:

See, this is trolling. You know I don't think you're a "biblethumping gun toting redneck." And you know these people aren't my pals. So why are you saying that shit to me? I guess I'll respond...I talk to my friends and my family about the issues that we care about, and we never sit around and talk shit about "rednecks" or call people ignorant. On the contrary, we really concern ourselves with trying to understand the other side on each issue, which we know is not exclusively comprised of "biblethumping gun toting rednecks."

And I understand that you may not particularly care for either side. But you should also understand that when you're doing this whole "attack stupid ideas" thing, a lot of the shit that you type sounds conservative, like you went to Republican camp as a kid and learned some arguments word-for-word from a great book of talking points. So you think you're independent, but I think you lean right, kid. I mean, you don't even support legalization of marijuana--is there something I'm missing here? If you want to claim that you've opted out through rational voter abstension, that's cool...most people have opted out...but at least consider the fact that you might be a conservative--even if you don't vote.

And that "cheap shot" is absurd. You know I'm not stupid or uninformed. And you know that when I say stupid, uninformed shit...it's because I say stupid, uninformed shit...not because I'm a woman.

TreeTwista10, I freely admit that my characterization was a stereotype. Stereotypes are over-simplifications, yes, but this particular stereotype happens to be a fairly accurate one. It certainly fits with the poll data described in the original article.

Now I'm not saying *all* Fox News viewers fit the stereotype. Of course there are some variations.

For instance, we see here that some of you here on TWW are fairly intelligent, reasonably informed, college-educated conservatives who for some reason choose to get your news from FNC. But it's apparant from my experience, anecdotal evidence, and scientific poll data, that you are the exceptions rather than the rule.

Look, I'm really sorry that it embarrasses you and makes you mad that your fellow Fox News viewers are so amazingly ignorant of current affairs, to the point that they cant name the sitting Republican Vice-President

And it's admirable how dilligently you try to rationalize this away, and show that these people are being misrepresented somehow. It really is touching.

But perhaps you ought to check your premises.

How so? I'll admit I lean right but I'm certainly not enthusiastic enough about either side to vote...aka I'm disenfranchised by both parties...I prefer not choosing between the turd sandwich and the giant douche....I'll let my voice be heard by NOT voting

I just don't see how someone who leans right is automatically somehow embarassed by Fox News viewers thinking whatever the hell they want to think

and joe_schmoe, I can only assume that relating Fox News viewers with your own *personasl* negative opinion of people who lean right will somehow validate your strong political opinions? If only I knew what people with strong political opinions felt like...

It's patently obvious that comments like these make this guy a troll. Look at the facts. He plays secretively about his education, his job, his life so that we can't use any of that to weigh in on the discussion. None of his political arguments are more than half baked. His claim to fame is knowledge of NBA, smoking weed, and trolling this section.

He is just barely knowledgeable enough about what is going on to stir up trouble in here, and he has done it for so long that any quality discourse this place used to have is dead.

McDanger gone. Grumpy barely posts. Smoker4 only occasionally. theDuke stays away most of the time. All the decent posters got nudged out by this fag.

I mean, it's one thing to think the liberals on this board have dumb ideas, but at least these guys try to have debate. All I ever here from the conservative voices here are attacks on Dems and a regurgitation of last nights Beck, H&C, and all the other FNC hacks.

Is an Annenberg survey of 100,000 people any more or less biased than either mediamatters or fox news?

[Edited on April 17, 2007 at 10:40 AM. Reason : ^^ you wanna try adding anything to the thread other than that bullshit?]

Wait, it was only 19000 or so

http://www.ou.edu/policom/1501_2005_winter/roundtable_kenski.htm

I'm not aware of if OU is extremely conservative or liberal, I guess if I knew, you could more easily confirm or deny the message they have without actually having to read it.

Quote :
"Analysis conducted by NAES team member Dannagal Goldthwaite Young demonstrates the power of the survey to detect differences between small subgroups. In her September 21 press release on viewers of late-night comedy programs, Young analyzed data collected between July 15 and September 19 from 19,013 individuals to compare people who watched David Letterman, Jay Leno, and Jon Stewart. The large sample size allowed Young to find that “People who watch The Daily Show are more interested in the presidential campaign, more educated, younger, and more liberal than the average American or than Leno or Letterman viewers,” a finding later reported by Jon Stewart on his show. Because the Leno, Letterman, and Stewart audiences make up a relatively small percentage of the overall population, large samples are needed to capture these subgroups."

I can only surmise from the previous text, that they are liberal idiots and the message should be summarily discarded.

Did you even read anything posted in here TreeTwista?

There are two polls referenced in this thread done by two reputable nonpartisan agencies that show TDS/TCR viewers are more educated and informed than those who get their news from fox/cnn/msn/****. There is a third poll that shows that TDS viewers are more educated than viewers of other comedy shows. Why are you even trying to disagree with this?

^Did YOU read the original source of the poll? cause TDS and TCR are hardly the most important aspects of it

^^You called this a study?

They called up 1500 people on the phone and asked them some questions...whoopty fucking doo

However if you take so much faith in it, I'm sure this will just kill you

Quote :
"There are substantial differences in the knowledge levels of the audiences for different news outlets. However, there is no clear connection between news formats and what audiences know. Well-informed audiences come from cable (Daily Show/Colbert Report, O'Reilly Factor), the internet (especially major newspaper websites), broadcast TV (NewsHour with Jim Lehrer) and radio (NPR, Rush Limbaugh's program). The less informed audiences also frequent a mix of formats: broadcast television (network morning news shows, local news), cable (Fox News Channel), and the internet (online blogs where people discuss news events).
"

OMG PEOPLE WHO WATCH O'REILLY FACTOR AND LISTEN TO RUSH ARE "WELL INFORMED"

let alone, the most important thing to draw from this study is not what the thread title says...its that

"On average, today's citizens are about as able to name their leaders, and are about as aware of major news events, as was the public nearly 20 years ago. "

Why pay attention to the details when you do it and inadvertently prove our points for us. Thats the comedy of all this. You try so hard to find some glimmer of something that can question the summary that we bring forth, and then fail at whatever point you were trying to make, often catastrophically, and look like a clown while doing it.

Keep posting, and proving everyone you reply to correct, time and time again.

Yes actually I did read it. That quote you posted did nothing for you. It just says the different formats as a whole have no substantial differences. Yes well-informed audiences come from every type of group. But on average people from TDS/CR answered questions better than people who watched Fox news. If you had actually read what you put in your post you would see they included TDS/CR in the well-informed audience list while Fox news was in the less informed list. What it is saying as a whole cable (with informed TDS/CR and uninformed Fox viewers) is not more well informed than people who get their information from the internet (smart people from major news websites, dumb people from blogs).

Thanks for proving my point for me.

I read the intial story and was skeptical that TDS/TCR audience was necessarily more informed than people who followed the news for reasons other than comedy

Instead of just looking at the headlines from the intial summary article, I actually looked at the Pew Group's website and the specifics of the poll

I then posted this gif (http://people-press.org/reports/images/319-14.gif) which showed that not only did the audience of "Major newspaper websites" have the same percentage of people in the High Knowledge Group, but that the TDS/TCR audience was only more knowledgeable about identifying Scooter Libby. The audiences of "Major newspaper websites" on the other hand were more knowledgeable about naming Sunnis, being able to identify Vlad Putin, and being informed on the number of US deaths in Iraq

your only retort to that pwnage (pwnage pertinent to the thread topic btw) was to start claiming I watched Fox News...yet I'm the problem

Oh I think your countless failed efforts at censorship of people you don't agree with or don't like is sufficient for everyone...and McDanger left? Hey, YOU LEFT! Because you couldn't handle it so you requested that mods suspend you! You have zero self control, and its also been common knowledge for years that NOBODY likes you in ANY message board section

While most of my posts in this thread up until the last few have actually dealt specifically with the topic at hand, go look back at State409c's posts...nothing intelligent, constructive, productive...just trolling...in fact the only post he makes thats actually relative to the topic was

Quote :
"And this whole time I had no idea I am not allowed to take serious news seriously AND laugh when it gets made fun of by a satire show."

I only troll trolls...and State409c is the biggest troll on TWW...he trolls anyone anytime...I've been commenting on this poll, its validity...I've questioned the methods of collecting data...and overall, despite being berrated by other people who just blindly read summary headlines, the .GIF I posted shows that I was right all along...while baldy has been trolling all along

Its really not that difficult to see if you have any common sense at all
