I modded my ps2, but it was mainly to install my current games on the harddrive so I wouldn't have to change games in and out all the timeplus the load time went way down[Edited on July 26, 2007 at 8:33 AM. Reason : .]

i think modding is cool - there are a lot of benefits to modding (linux installation, etc) its just the whole "backup games" aka software piracy that really makes me look down on some adults
7/26/2007 9:09:15 AM
I don't have enough faith in my abilities to tear open a console and start soldering though
7/26/2007 9:20:38 AM
umm, $10 is a pretty close comparison
7/26/2007 10:57:19 AM
then you wouldnt mind me buying games for $50 and selling them to you for $60?
7/26/2007 11:16:27 AM
if you ever let family nephews, drunk friends, whoever enjoy time in your gaming room you have to make backups. it's not that they try to fuck up your shit, it's just that those discs aren't indestructible. 50 dollars adds up. luckily the wii only has 1 game out that you need to buy (zelda) and you already get the best group game free (wii sports) imo. the rest you can complete in no time and never play again with a gamefly subscription. the real rip off is the virtual console. why do i need to rebuy games I still have the cartridges for? last count i think I have about 225 cartridges of nes/snes/sega games i accumulated growing up. even at 5 dollars it gets to be a large number. with my modded wii, I can remove those old systems and their dang corded controllers from the game room, leaving the wii/wavebird and one disc with all the old console games on it.

you're also paying for a convenience factordon't forget that the games you're buying from VC are compatible with wireless controllers - that in itself is worth $5 to me, personally
7/26/2007 1:59:52 PM
the Wii Classic controller is not wireless, but I guess you could use a wavebird.
7/26/2007 3:04:06 PM
I don't know jack about modding.... What are the benefits of modding? I read there's ways to play ps and gamecube games on a modded wii, but is there also a way to play PS2 games? Would yall recommend a n00b try to install a wiikey? I've taken apart a laptop before, and installed video and ram in my PC, but that's the extent of my experience.
7/26/2007 4:08:38 PM
7/26/2007 4:09:48 PM
You're wrong, the controller itself has a wire coming out of it. Therefore it is not wireless./tech talk troll
7/26/2007 4:31:27 PM
[Edited on July 26, 2007 at 4:57 PM. Reason : the whole "dongle" think sucks. There is no need for wired attachments to the wiimote.]
7/26/2007 4:56:59 PM
i guess technically the wii remote and numchuck arent wireless either. i mean, there is a wire connecting the two.
7/26/2007 4:58:11 PM
well, if we want to start trolling, why stop at dongles? Why not count the wires inside the wavebird and discount that as a wired controller after allwhat's so magical about an arbitrary casing?also, p.s. noen, pwn.[Edited on July 26, 2007 at 6:13 PM. Reason : s]

how dare those assholes sell a product at a profitwho do they think they are
7/26/2007 6:49:00 PM
7/26/2007 8:37:28 PM
However if you've never soldiered before I wouldn't recommend starting on the Wii. It's not that easy.
7/26/2007 8:48:09 PM
it's NOTHING like installing like installing a graphics card.If that's the most 'techie' thing you've ever done, you need to have someone else do it for you.btw, I was totally kidding with my post up there. The classic controller is indeed wireless.[Edited on July 27, 2007 at 8:12 AM. Reason : d]

shit just got real. FBI is cracking down on damn near every modchip seller in the US. If you sell modded system, even on the side, better shut er down. The awesome thing is they just nabbed a bigtime guy this week who will finally be able to test the DMCA.He had NO pirated material, NO backups, NO bootleg anything in his possession. Just modded systems as a side business. I really want to see how this plays out, because it really pisses me off that this is being prosecuted at all.I have NO problems with companies preventing modded systems from taking advantage of their services, aka the XBOX Live bans. But if someone wants to modify their own equipment, or have someone do it for them, that should be completely within their rights REGARDLESS of purpose.
8/5/2007 12:58:50 AM
i think modding should be legal unless they are wanting to do illegal things like backing up games
8/5/2007 1:06:44 AM
who wants to mod my wii?
8/5/2007 3:12:27 AM
^^ fuck, really? My modchip got flagged by customs on its way in the other day... are they going to confiscate my shit? That would suuuuuuck.http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/6928177.stmFUCK FUCKING FUCK FUCKUS Customs has carried out raids in 16 states to clamp down on the sale of modification or "mod" chips. In the largest operation of its kind to date US Customs officials raided more than 30 homes, businesses and shops. "Illicit devices like the ones targeted today are created with one purpose in mind, subverting copyright protections," said Julie L. Myers, assistant secretary of Homeland Security for ICE in a statement."These crimes cost legitimate businesses billions of dollars annually and facilitate multiple other layers of criminality, such as smuggling, software piracy and money laundering," said Ms Myers. didn't you know? taking money away from the riaa/mpaa is terrorism
8/5/2007 5:45:26 PM
^video game mod chips take money way from the RIAA/MPAA?i wish they did more stuff like this
8/5/2007 5:52:04 PM
modchipping kills babies.
8/5/2007 11:13:54 PM
well, they are the biggest copyright holders and therefore the ones paying congress to make the laws more and more stringent/ridiculous. It's because of them that any copyright infringement at all is on the homeland security radar. MS/sony/nintendo are just adding pressure on top of that to go at the modchip market. Sony especially, I'd wager - they already are part of the movement with their huge music and movies divisions.
8/5/2007 11:19:42 PM
i vote for the destruction of Sony.it would seriously help out a LOT!
8/5/2007 11:54:56 PM
8/6/2007 12:43:04 AM
BUT THEY'RE STOPPING TERRORISM DUH THERE IS NOTHING MORE IMPORTANT!!11!seriously it's getting fucking ridiculous how every gov't agency is abusing the terrorism thing to do whatever they want..
8/6/2007 12:50:55 AM
damn it seems like i'm the only one on tww that thinks modding a system is illegal or some shit
8/6/2007 12:55:51 AM
I think it is done for illegal purposes 9 times out of 7
8/6/2007 8:16:08 AM
i see what you did there.

just dont update. sacrificing updates and possibly online play is the legitimate price one should pay.^^nice
8/7/2007 12:11:56 PM
^definitely agree with that
8/7/2007 12:18:37 PM
Everything I've read on forums say that this update doesn't mess up a physically modded Wii, it only stops devices like the Freeloader boot disc from working. If you've got a mod chip, you should be fine to update.
8/7/2007 12:20:50 PM
I'm running CycloWiz and updated. EVERYTHING is fine.WiiKey works too, according to everyone on maxconsole forums.
8/7/2007 12:50:04 PM
