It's funny how the Cowboys can win lots of championships and they are "America's Team" and the Yankees win a lot and lots of people hate them
4/17/2007 7:28:08 AM
The Yankees are in a less favorable locationNortherners dislike southerners, southerners dislike northerners, et ceteraDallas is in neither of those placesand the romanticized vision of the notion of Cowboys may have something to do with it - or probably the fact they were the first team with cheerleaders

Things are looking great in mini camp. I hope TO decides to stay quiet this time. Other than possibly the bears, I dont think there is a team in the NFC that will be as good as Dallas.

^^Just curious what happened last time Dallas and Pittsburgh met in the Super Bowl???Someone forgot to tell Neil O'Donnell that Larry Brown wasn't on his team.

5/17/2007 10:48:56 PM
last year he had a shitty fantasy year
5/17/2007 10:53:42 PM
I hope Wade Phillips can work some magic on the defense and actually get some pressure on the QB this year.

i had him last year too and half the season he didnt do shithe had a few great games and was average at best for the rest of them
5/17/2007 11:16:07 PM
True, but his downtime was predictable and well-announced, so you could work around it.
5/17/2007 11:35:48 PM
He's aging and I think predicting a big year for him is foolish. But then again he is TO... The guy is one hellof an athlete. I think it really depends on how well opposing teams can figure out Romo... And if he goes down or get figured out then who is the backup?
5/18/2007 1:03:30 PM
Calling BIG years for T.O. and Mossunless Romo gets distracted because he hittin this ->
5/19/2007 4:21:35 AM
Cowboys will be 12-4NFC EAST CHAMPSSUPER BOWL CHAMPSROMO will be MVP of the leagueand the steelers will be 7-9 at best
5/19/2007 11:42:52 AM
I think you underestimate what the loss of one of the best coaches in history will do for your team... The Tuna was getting old, yes... but he produced wins... Superbowl much less NFC title are huge stretches for the cowboys IMO...Despite the coaching change, I still wouldnt count the 'Boys out of the NFC East title, I'd say its between them and Philly. All of the other NFC East teams had big losses too:Eagles - recieving & McNugget may not come back off this injury like expected...Giants - Tiki and an exposed, overhyped QB, nuff said...Skins - Same problems they've had for awhile still plague them...

Yes i dont know shit about football just like you dont know that Wade Phillips has a career record of 48-42 which includes taking the buffalo bills to the playoffs 2 out of his 3 seasons there. I would say he has suceeded with teams that have a lot less talent than this cowboys team. He is also one of the masters of the 3-4 defense that the cowboys have been constructing for the last few years. DeMarcus Ware is one the best young defenders in the league. Also you speak of the secondary, A secondary anchored by Pro Bowler Roy Williams and added Ken Hamlin from Seattle who was fifth in the league among safeties last season with 96 tackles. The problem last year was the boys had no free safety. That problem seems to have been addressed. The corners Newman and Henry had a combined 33 passes defended. YOU MY FRIEND OBVIOUSLY DONT KNOW SHIT ABOUT FOOTBALL
5/21/2007 4:24:33 PM
WADE PHILLIPS IS NO BILL PARCELLS.....MOST OF THEIR WINS LAST YEAR WERE AGAINST BOTTOM FEEDERS......ROMO IS OVER-RATED AND JULIUS JONES AND MARION BARBER ARE ONLY AVERAGE RUNNING BACKS....I HONESTLY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT WITH THE STEELERS THIS YEAR.....WITHOUT COWHER I AM WORRIED...AS LONG AS BIG BEN CAN LIMIT THE TURNOVERS LIKE HE DID TOWARD THE END OF LAST YEAR WE WILL BE IN GOOD SHAPE....I CAN ASSURE YOU THE COWBOYS WILL FINISH BELOW .500 THIS COMING YEAR
5/21/2007 6:03:14 PM
You have no clue what you are talking aboutI guess Romo is over-rated because he was the fifth highest rated QB in the NFL last year(probably just mad cause romo was 5th and BIG BEN was 21st)and I suppose an average running back can lead the NFC in rushing touchdowns(probably just mad cause barber had 14 tds and 0 fumbles while willie had 13 tds and 6 fumbles)
5/21/2007 7:46:23 PM
Long way away but it looks like the 'Boys will be playin at home for superbowl XLV (maybe 4 straight)
5/22/2007 8:52:27 PM
did they finally finish building the giant space-ship stadium yet?
5/22/2007 10:20:37 PM
5/23/2007 12:59:22 AM
The Cowboys should try to see about getting disgruntled asante samuel and lance briggs
5/23/2007 5:00:33 PM
i dont like the steelers but i hate the cowboys even morego panthers!
5/23/2007 5:04:58 PM
Briggs would be huge. Then as a bonus McNabb would have no shot landing in Chicago who really will be the only team standing in Dallas's way of the superbowl next year. It pains me to say though that even though Dallas should, and probably will, make the super bowl this year, no one is going to beat the Pats without some help from the injury gods.

I love the schedule this year. 6 prime time games on top of what will be able to be seen during the regular slots. 3 sunday night 1 monday night1 thursday night1 saturday nightPlus a bye week right in the middle of the schedule. I'm predicting 10-6. 11-5 if the Panthers game goes well. That is hard to pick since it is in Charlotte this year
7/23/2007 1:08:13 PM

ExampleLive From THe Alamodome IX3:12 -- I'll start with some leftover questions from the morning session. Gimme a few minutes.3:14 -- Mat McBriar just boomed a punt off the scoreboard. McBriar and rookie kicker Nick Folk are standing on the sideline aiming for it. Jerry had McBriar do this the other day, because he's trying to figure out how high to put the scoreboard in JerryWorld.3:17 -- They did blitz drills this morning for the first time, and Bobby Carpenter was outstanding. He excelled in pass-rush drills and 11-on-11. He looked like a guy that can be a difference-maker on passing downs. ... Anthony Henry had his best practice this morning, which isn't necessarily saying much. But he had a good day, picking off Tony Romo and breaking up other passes. Wade Phillips said he likes what he's seen from Henry, but I think that's a case of the coach not wanting to call out a veteran. ... Rookie FB Deon Anderson hasn't shown me anything to indicate he'll be a receiving threats. I've seen a whole bunch of drops and bobbles by him, but that could be nerves. If he makes this team, it'll be because of special teams. ... Good question about Jamaica Rector always having a good camp but still getting cut. That's life as a 5-10, 183-pound guy who went undrafted out of an itty-bitty school. Bigger, faster guys are seen as having more potential. ... Andy Thorn is a solid bet as the No. 3 TE. Not sure whether they'll keep a fourth TE or second fullback. ... Wouldn't say Doug Free is more polished than James Marten or vice versa. Free needs to improve as a run blocker, while Marten needs to work on pass blocking. ... They are trying to keep down the reps of Jason Ferguson and some other old dudes. Ferguson hasn't done anything to stand out, but not many nose tackles do. ... Don't see a replacement for Kyle Kosier at left guard, unless they want to put Pat McQuistan there. And then who is your backup at left and right tackle? ... Tyson Thompson looks as fast and explosive as he was before breaking his leg. ... Bradie James is doing well. You can tell he's quicker than he was last season. Made a huge hit on Marion Barber near the sideline during the first full-contact practice.3:32 -- Julius Jones and Marion Barber have both looked good. Run blocking has been surprisingly good, considering the two starting tackles have been watching from the sideline until Flo got out there a little today. I'd expects the split of carries to vary week to week depending on several factors -- matchups, game situations, health, who's hot, etc. ... I feel safe predicting that T.O. will continue to earn high marks in citizenship, at least until his first two-catch game. ... Either Tyson Thompson or Miles Austin will be the primary kick returner. They both averaged 26.0 yards per return last season, so the Cowboys are in good shape either way. Austin probably makes the team anyway, but he definitely will if Jackie Battle beats out Thompson. ... Terence Newman is the team's best punt returner, but not sure how much they'll use him there. Patrick Crayton and Jamaica Rector have some experience, but neither is very explosive. Don't think I'd trust Isaiah Stanback, considering he's never done it before (at any level) and still isn't practicing.3:39 -- Greg Ellis' trade value is somewhere between slim and none. Teams aren't exactly lining up to give up something for an old guy coming back from an Achilles injury who is due $2.5 million this season and $3.3 million next season. ... The players don't give a flip about Greg Ellis' whining. If anything, it's a source of amusement. ... Only way Pat McQuistan is the starter at RT is if Marc Colombo doesn't recover as expected from his knee surgery. "His physicalness is what puts him over the top," Tony Sparano said of Colombo this morning. "He won't lose that." ... Can't say I've spent much time watching Abram Elam so far.3:44 -- Martin Gramatica went 6-for-6 on field goals (25, 30, 35, 37, 41, 47).3:47 -- Nick Folk hit all six (25, 30, 35, 39, 44, 49).3:49 -- No. 3 QB will be determined by preseason games. If they opt to keep two, they'll definitely stash one on the practice squad. ... Patrick Crayton is above Sam Hurd on the depth chart, so he'd replace a starter in case of injury. ... Not sure whether Tyson Thompson or Miles Austin can catch punts consistently. That's not an easy thing to do. Neither is getting any reps back there. ... Cowboys offense was on the field to end the season. Tony Romo's Hail Mary fell incomplete in the end zone. Details leading up to that moment are a bit foggy in my mind.3:54 -- Ken Hamlin will be an upgrade over the guys they had at free safety last season. He's not the best cover guy in the world, but he knows a big hitter who won't blow assignments. ... Hard to blame Hamlin for not helping out when Anthony Henry is getting beat in one-on-one drills. ... Not sure of 40 times, but I believe Miles Austin is faster than Sam Hurd. Patrick Crayton is the slowest of the three. ... McBriar is not kicking off. He tinkered with it a little during the offseason. He stopped because he thought the different motion might mess up his punting. Nick Folk could stick as a kickoff specialist/long FG guy. He also has a job to just beat out Gramatica. ... My take on the Mark Teixeira trade.3:59 -- Cowboys are working on squib kicks. Todd "Isn't That Special?" Archer is keeping a close eye on the action.4:02 -- Oliver Hoyte has looked good at fullback, blocking and catching the ball. Bill Parcells deserves some praise for moving Hoyte from LB. ... Sam Hurd is more explosive. Patrick Crayton proved himself as reliable. I'll take reliable if I need to replace a starter. ... Backup NT is TBD. Won't know until after preseason. That player might be in another training camp right now. ... There are other Cowboys sites besides this one?! Who woulda thunk it? ... Deion danced around the question when asked the other day which team he'd represent in the Hall of Fame. "I'm going to go in as a man," he said before misusing the word "intangible." ...4:18 -- I'm back after a bit of Mavs blogging and some arguing with press box neighbors about NBA matters. Will get to more questions in a moment.4:22 -- It is bursitis (inflammation and pain) that is keeping Ellis out. Renegotiating his contract might serve as a great pain reliever, but Jerry ain't gonna do it. ... Moving T.O. around is definitely an emphasis. Same goes for Terry Glenn and Jason Witten. They're looking to create and exploit as many mismatches as possible. ... Surprised by those 40 times listed in the comments for the WRs. Assuming they're accurate, Sam Hurd might just be one of those guys that carries his pads well, running as fast in full gear as he does shorts and a T-shirt. He sure looks faster than Crayton. ... Saint Jimmy, good point about Kosier playing tackle. All I can tell you is that McQuistan hasn't gotten any reps at guard in minicamps or here. ... Joe Avezzano is probably at his restaurant/bar, which I believe is located in Frisco. I'll provide a name and link if I'm promised a free meal.4:26 -- No idea how many QBs Wade Phillips has carried on past teams. I might just ask him. ... I won't make a prediction on No. 3 QB, because I'd just be guessing. Let me see a couple preseason games first. ... Sam Adams is a Bronco.4:32 -- Practice is wrapping up. Be back with much more later, including a tidbit on Sam Hurd's personal tutor (a veteran whose initials are not T.O.) and my take on Greg Ellis.
