OH YEAH AND PAGE 2I wish I could chase people down for commission checks after I have spent dozens of hours working with them. Sometimes things just suck and you just get dicked. Anyone that can't swallow that should avoid working in any kind of service based industry. ]

Wow, damn. Completely fucking inappropriate.Assuming we're talking about a normal family, not some massive, push-3-tables-together, drinks-alone-take-multiple-trips affair.
4/7/2007 3:32:55 AM
why are you disclosing the place? where did you eat?
4/7/2007 3:42:26 AM
I'm disclosing the place because I don't want this to be personal if someone happens to know the guy who did this. I just wanted to know if it was inappropriate or not. Also, there were 4 people in my party, so we weren't a giant group or anything. We seriously just forgot the tip.[Edited on April 7, 2007 at 10:45 AM. Reason : oops]

do waiters care if you split a plate with someone instead of each getting a separate plate? it's just too much food, in most restaurants, to each get a meal - unless you want to have it reheated the next day, which i am not a fan of.
4/7/2007 11:10:34 AM
yeah, if they wanna bitch about me getting an app + salad they can lick my nutz. sorry i dont weigh 500lbs you fucker.
4/7/2007 11:25:28 AM
How are you supposed to tip in pool halls? Do they actually expect me to pay 20% on my drinks and my pool time?
4/7/2007 11:39:05 AM
While running out of a restaurant chasing after a guest is in very bad taste, I can say I've wanted to do it on more than one occasion. Not that I would if I felt I'd given bad service, but just because there are an unusually large portion of douchebag tippers out there. Latest example was a family of six (white people) who came in and spent an hour and a half working up a $90 bill. They were my only table during the time, and they got great service with a great attitude. $3 tip. People like this should die. Simply put. We should get to flog you to death. And no, tip shouldn't be automatically included in the price of the meal. There'd be no incentive to work harder for a better tip. All your service would be average at best.

4/7/2007 1:01:12 PM
I've been a waiter and a bartender for a while(7 years), I have only chased a person out of the resturant for two reasons 1) they took my credit card book, with the slip,2) two people stayed two HOURS after we closed, my manager wouldn't let me say anything, they left me a 5% tip.....I walked out went off on them, walked back in and told the manager I would pick up her saturday night managing shift if she dealt with the customers, a waiter should not walk out of a resturant to ask for a tip, unless you think they forgot, then ask the manager to do it....."I just wanted to make sure the service was okay....." and if you do "where's my money bitch, isn't the way to go"Waiters and bartenders don't care what you order (for the most part) as long as your not a asshole, if there is not already a list we need to make a list of stuff that pisses of waiters.....the red hat society

4/7/2007 2:16:48 PM
i've had people take the book with the slips before. i've chased them down glenwood for that thing.
4/7/2007 2:18:44 PM
I never chased anyone, but I saw someone who did once. We were working at a pretty swank place ($35 for the cheapest entree, around $75 for the better food), the kind of place where if you can afford to eat there, you can afford the goddamn tip, and everyone in town knows it. He wasn't just a good waiter, he was a trainer, the kind of guy who never seemed swamped and always gave great service. This couple had gotten perfect service - their glasses were never empty, their food arrived almost at the moment their appetizers were gone, he came back to check on them at appropriate times, etc. The guy paid with a credit card (gave it to him, he ran it, and dropped the card and slips) and left no tip whatsoever. The waiter saw, followed them out into the parking lot, and asked if there was a problem with their service. (The rest of this is hearsay - I never saw it because I was working, but there were two busboys having a smoke in the back lot) The woman looked embarrassed and the guy sputtered. He tried to go back into the restaurant and get the waiter fired, but the owner wouldn't do a damn thing about it, probably because at a decent restaurant, a very good waiter is worth his weight in dollars per night - upselling, ensuring return custom, and good word of mouth. One mouthy cheap bastard wouldn't even hurt the restaurant's image, and he knew it.

^ see, if our bill had been that much, I really would have expected the dude to come outside to ask us about his tip (not chase the car, but try and catch us before we left). However, our bill was $15...20% of that is roughly $3. Is that really worth risking getting hit over and chasing a car down?
4/7/2007 8:32:39 PM
Tab, i think youre totally right. i cant imagine chasing someoen over a $3 tip, or being chased. if i got chased for that, its easy to say now that I'd be all like "WTF dude???" and try and make him feel stupid. but in reality, i'd probably just be so surprised i'd probably just look for some cash.
4/8/2007 1:54:45 AM
black people forget to tip me almost every timeunless you call $2 on a $60 check a tip
4/8/2007 2:15:54 AM
well, probably because you come off with your arrogant christian identity racist republican attitude like they're all a bunch of freedom hating welfare queens.
4/8/2007 3:59:14 AM
haha i love giving people hell when they don't tip me. We can find creative ways to embarrass people.or we just skip over you deliberately next time you come up to order a drinkor you just get a splash of vodka instead of a decent pouror we charge you moreor oops you're cut off or we tell you to leaveand if we remember you from repeat visits to our establishment (where you've failed to leave a tip)... good luck getting anything. [Edited on April 8, 2007 at 12:52 PM. Reason : baaaaa]

that kind of attitude is the reason ppl dont feel bad about not leaving tips.[Edited on April 8, 2007 at 1:16 PM. Reason : you guys have the same mentality as a rent a cop...want a cookie?]
4/8/2007 1:15:28 PM
^And that's your prerogative. Just like it's ours to not give you a good pour or fast service.
4/8/2007 1:26:57 PM
Well, I guess the real question is what would you have done when/if you remembered stiffing the dude?At any rate, I've seen a lot of people fired over those shenanigans. It's not worth it!
4/8/2007 1:32:27 PM
20% tip is fucking ridiculous... this ain't NYC or LA.10% tip in NC is enough.
4/8/2007 2:20:12 PM
^fuel--->fire
4/8/2007 2:20:41 PM
hahaha i know i was adding fuel to fire, but not on purpose. that's what i believe.i mean, if waiters expect a 20% tip in NC, what would they expect if they were waiters in NYC???30%?? that's bordering on insane, now.
4/8/2007 2:25:20 PM
you tip the same 20%, but in NYC, your meals will be much more expensive. And theres alot more rich people in those city restaraunts that don't feel like they need to hold back the money if the waitering is key. I know before the minimum wage went into effect, most NYC restaraunts got paid by the waiters for them to work there and collect tips.Either way, if you tipped me 10% and I worked my ass off, you better not try to come into my restaraunt again.

oh whatever STFU and be happy with 10%.as i said, 10% is plenty in NC.when the rent for a 1-bdr apt in NC reaches $1,000/month, then you can ask for the 20%.PS
4/8/2007 2:42:55 PM
^^^ how bout you get a real job then. you guys bitch like you dont make shit when you make MUCH more than you would at any other job requiring that skillset.i generally give people 13-18%, but there is nothing more annoying than waiters with a sense of entitlement.[Edited on April 8, 2007 at 2:51 PM. Reason : ,]
4/8/2007 2:50:01 PM
haha where does the 13-18% come from? i mean, i can see that the complaining is justified by some people in the thread when they got like 3-5% tips, but if you are getting a 10% tip, you have no entitlement to complain at all.
4/8/2007 2:54:48 PM
^^^you seem to be ignoring the beauty of percentages...a 10 dollar meal in raleigh will probably be 20 dollars in NYC...so you can leave 15% at both and the cost of living difference will account for itself. crazy, eh?20% is my normal tip and if i get excellent service i will give some extra and if service is not great, they will get 15%.10% is an insult of a tip if good service was given[Edited on April 8, 2007 at 3:15 PM. ^^So...Are you:1) A jew2) Black3) Never worked in or had friends who have worked in the service industry4) Just a raging asshole?
4/8/2007 3:42:58 PM
increasing the prices by 15% wouldn't be enough to pay servers enough.
4/8/2007 3:44:00 PM
I always thought that %10 was if they did a bad job (or none at all if it was that bad, which I've never come across), 15% for your average "satisfied" meal, and then 20+% if you really liked the job.......is the 20% you guys have been talking about really the understood standard now?
4/8/2007 3:59:54 PM
^the 20% i do is just my personal thing. i believe 15% is still the understood "standard" tip[Edited on April 8, 2007 at 4:02 PM. Reason : oops]
4/8/2007 4:02:40 PM
4/8/2007 4:04:10 PM
why would anyone tip 15% when the waiter/waitress decided you weren't worth their labor. do they even have to "earn" their tip anymore?

I wish Tabbycat would disclose the name of the restaurant to help others avoid this bad scene. This same thing happened recently to my parents at Piccola Italia in Cameron Village where they had been loyal customers who tipped generously for good service. Now they avoid the place.

Jews are frugal, which is how they accumulate so much money.I don't think a 15% tip is bad at all, and giving that jew shit for it just shows that you don't value your hard-earned money as much as he does.
4/8/2007 11:44:22 PM
15% of 140 = $21.20% of 140 = $28.so eithertotal bill = $161 --> tells your server "you were marginal and/or my asshole is tightly clenched" ortotal bill = $168 --> tells your server "i'm cool, and appreciate you for hookin us up right"...if your gonna spend 150 fucking dollars or more on a meal, and you cant come off with an extra $5 or so to tip a good waiter, who most likely anticipated your every need, and made sure everything was right, well, you know, you just kind of suck....but somethign for you college kids: $20 meal somewhere near campus. you get good, solid service. do you leave $3, or do you leave $4? if you only leave $3, why? you need to hold on that extra dollar for something special? need it to buy your gal an ice cream, and you've cleaned out all your change from the ashtray? is your car running on fumes, and you need a buck's worth of gas to make it home?
