Old Tyme and Coopers are the closest you can get to real country food within a 5 minute drive from campus

i like RH&B....well, I first had it at UNC prob 4 years ago. I haven't had it in Raleigh/Cary. My fam went back to the Chapel Hill location a little bit ago and saw that it had changed to some Jim's BBQ.

Idk, I like memphis-style.

I am glad to know that something is finally going where the Darryls used to be. It has been vacant way too long!

Oh heaven forbid we have more than 2 bars on a college street.

Red's Beach Music was going to reopen there, and they wanted way too much and wouldn't allow any fun.

I think he needs to retake some economics and investment courses.

I loved that place...I spent many evenings there.

I'm glad to hear something is finally going in that spot--it has been vacant for far too long.

Need something good in that spot. A microbrewery would have been magnificent.

is memphis style like western NC style?

and what exactly is lexington style?

lexington is eastern style

western is pulled pork, with a tomato based sauce

eastern is chopped pork, with a vinegar based sauce

Lexington is the furthest west you can get Eastern BBQ, and it's by far the best there.

eastern style also uses the whole pig while lexington style is the shoulder not the whole pig.

^^^neither do i. you can park on campus after five and there is usually PLENTY available. otherwise, lots of businesses on h'boro have parking behind their businesses. and if they don't have that, then you can park on a side street or on vanderbilt

i've lived offcampus longer than you've been in school and i've never looked for more than 2 or 3 mins for parking on hillsborough.

a few friends & i took a day trip to lexington to get BBQ during HS. we ran into the martin luther king jr. parade & asked the traffic director cop where some good BBQ was. pretty good even though i'm not a fan of vinegar style.
also, when i was in australia we told someone where we were from and he said "North Carolina? Lexington BBQ eh mate?"
i'll have to try this memphis style if red hot & blue opens up before i leave.

RH&B is ok.... but I don't think it'll do too well there since lots of NCSU'ers are more partial to GOOD bbq. I mean really, whatchamacallit tried and left already... oh heck... what's it called... Q Shack! There it is...

I was excited when I saw that sign a while back saying a restaurant called "Raisin' Ale" was going in that spot... that had true potential. Plus, I thought it was a catchy name. Guess the $ wasn't right.

Like I said, he won't allow it.
Guy who runs melvins told me he wanted to have a bar next door, and they wouldn't let him.

Stupid old people who think that living across the street from a college should be "quiet"

what? no it didn't. there's still one on capital. i swing through the drive through out back every chance i get when i'm out that way for work.

^^i think he was probably talking about it being the best there. anyone with half a brain knows that other areas in eastern nc have much better stuff. personally, i consider the wilson and rocky mount general areas to be the best.

True... But the one on Hillsborough was THE original and when it went franchised it stayed in the Eure family and was not part of the franchise.

^^Food is horrible unless your department is having an event there then he caters fine foods.

They hurt themselves recently, no smoking at all period there now. While I hate smoking and the stench the next moring after drinking all night at a bar, people who go to bars like to smoke.
