Bump. I'm looking to replace my 2002 Accord soon w/ a used wagon, unless I can find a good enough deal on new. I need more room w/ an expanding family, dog and road trips between VA and NC. Looking for something that is reliable, low cost to maintain, and is "sporty." Not AMG sporty, but not a Prius. Here are my three contenders: Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon - (Big, can be polarizing looks wise, most performance orientated of the bunch). Subaru Outback - (Has AWD, more rugged, less performance orientated) Acura TSX Sport Wagon - (older tran/engine combo, pretty basic, most attractively priced). What say you? Any other cars I missing? The cost of keeping up w/ an Audi or VW has me shying away from them.[Edited on March 29, 2015 at 11:55 AM. Reason : ...]

Check out the xt or 3.0 outbacks if you want to move them up to similar performance as the others (atleast in a straight line)Isn't there a Lexus is300 based wagon? Also v6 rav4, not a wagon, not really sporty, but plenty of engine and utility.

Love me some CTS Wagon...
3/29/2015 4:45:01 PM
I've had a sportwagen for about two years now. Love it and haven't had any problems out of it. Great gas mileage peppy and pretty affordable.
3/29/2015 11:24:44 PM
Don''t know how old you're looking, but there was a Legacy GT wagon produced for a couple years. Maybe around '07? Or what about a Volvo V70R, or if that's too balls-out, V70 T5? Could fit the bill.I'm also a huge fan of the CTS Sportwagon and will probably be eyeing one when the time comes. I don't want an SUV, neither I nor my wife want a minivan, but we'll need something with "stuff" space once kids come along.

^^Acura or Caddy?
3/30/2015 11:32:11 AM
I'd probably go with the Cadillac. Out of the choices that'll give you the best driving enjoyment. Acura would probably be the safest, most reliable bet. Also, kudos for wanting a wagon.

I'd just like to say Fuck Acura for not offering a manual transmission on the TSX wagon.
3/31/2015 2:39:40 PM
Not sure how long you plan to keep this car, but the CTS V wagon is a dead car, as such it will age a lot better than a car that is still in production.

I'm going to test drive a CPO TSX today. Just taking a looking around, would the Jetta Sportwagen just be a headache to own? Diesel or gas? They are pretty affordable (2013-2014 models) compared to a TSX, but I just hear nightmares about repairs.[Edited on April 8, 2015 at 11:03 AM. Reason : ...]

I don't trust VWs. If you're going to keep it past the warranty you'll probably wanna turn your own wrenches or have $montana set aside for repairs.http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/cars-trucks/Volkswagen_Jetta/2012/Reliability/[Edited on April 8, 2015 at 11:12 AM. Reason : eg]

That's what I'm thinking. The Acura is just pretty expensive.

For sheer entertainment, test drive a V wagon if you can find one. [Edited on April 8, 2015 at 2:34 PM. Reason : .]

My grammar is horrible. Which sedan / wagon are you talking about? You can get a v6 Outback but no manual. The 2015 actually looks a lot better. They modified the body, changed the wheels, and made a couple of performance improvements. Won't be taking a sedan off road. Didn't Audi release an A6 Allroad? I doubt you can get a manual in the states though.
4/8/2015 3:15:40 PM
I was talking about Acura, so I'm referring to the TSX sedan/wagon.I'm 95% certain that you can no longer buy a Legacy in any shape or form with a manual transmission (and if you can it's only with the least powerful engine option). They're all CVT which pretty much guarantees that I'll never own one.Fucking BMW followed Acura's lead and no longer offers a manual on their 3 series wagon (5 series wagon lost the option years ago) [Edited on April 8, 2015 at 4:02 PM. Yeah if I want a Subaru sedan it'll be a WRX/STI with a manual transmission. I wish the Forester XT has a manual. The < 2009 Outback XTs were great cars. I tried finding a used manual one with decent mileage but they're impossible to find (especially in Colorado).
4/8/2015 4:45:10 PM
I've got a Forrester XT with the CVT transmission, and I'm constantly thinking about how much more fun it would be to drive with a 6-speed manual.
4/12/2015 12:23:22 PM
It was sold with a manual for several years. Though I would imagine they're very difficult to locate these days.
4/12/2015 3:31:38 PM
^^^^ also can't get it with the turbo six or RWD. Fuck BMW, anyway. I'm no longer a fan in general, not just with the wagon.Wagons rule, though.
4/12/2015 4:20:21 PM
^^^Yeah I've driven my friends. Would be much better. ^^Yeah I see the Forester manual 2.5XTs every now and then. Very hard to find though.
4/12/2015 5:34:32 PM
RS6 Avant. If I were a well paid rich person this is the car I'd be begging Audi to bring back to the states. 560 HP, 516 lb ft of torque. Sub 4 second 0-60. And 24 MPG on the highway to boot.
4/12/2015 10:24:55 PM
^ That's been my absolute favorite wagon for years. Don't forget there is also the Plus model with 600 hp! Awesome gallery here:http://www.autoblog.com/2014/07/01/audi-rs6-avant-plus-reportThe RS6 has a 4 liter TT V8 now, but in the previous generation it had the powerplant of the R8/Gallardo, the 5 liter V10, but it was TTed so it was even more powerful than either of those supercars! The sedan also looks the best among the other German competition. Among wagons, CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake comes 2nd in terms of looks, IMO.BTW, did you see the 950 hp RS6 released by Jan Olsson (and alpine skier)? It is road legal, and carries all his ski equipment lol!http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/This-is-a-road-legal-1000bhp-RS6-2015-04-01

I had a baby in January and in preparation, I bought a 2005 Mercury Sable LS Wagon. Same as this, but in white:Had 22,000 miles, 0 accidents, and was/is extremely clean. Got it for $4000 cash off the lot at Fred Anderson Nissan off Wake Forest Rd. There's a roof rack, a fold up 3rd row (rear facing) bench seat...so it seats 7, a locking trunk compartment. A really great vehicle all around. Also, I figure if all of the taxi cabs around the city are using the ford taurus version of this wagon and driving them like a bat outta hell and putting tons of miles on them, it must be a pretty reliable car that can take a beating. Overall, I'm happy with my wagon and it does great for tailgating, camping, and beach trips with the new baby.[Edited on April 14, 2015 at 2:03 PM. Reason : #WagonLife]

^Ranch Wagon FTMFW.
4/17/2015 3:19:39 AM
Yeah i found this one but the gate is so far gone its not funny... and i can't find one. it's also missing the rear glass on the far side which is also incredibly difficult to find. I really want the car but i'm having enough trouble getting my galaxie done... and its an "easy one"a winged ranch wagon is a damned rare bird... i really really want it but i don't know if i could ever finish it.
4/17/2015 7:23:36 AM
Is the rear glass and gate unique to the Ranch Wagon, or general to all the '61 wagons? Hard as hell to find in either case I'm sure. But DAMN is that thing cool--it's even got legit patina. You could get it sealed and drive it looking exactly like that, just refresh the motor and restore the interior.
