we just met with Wachovia about our business account yesterday. We are moving that to BB&T as well. He basically told us our option was to apply for a business credit card, without knowing the rates, credit limit, or fees. And IF we get approved for it, it's AUTOMATICALLY issued. The dude tried to tell me that you can't get a credit card with the fees known before you apply. Almost wanted to choke him. Meanwhile, across Cameron Village, BB&T offered us a business card with 6 months no interest and gave us our options up front. AMAZING.

About bouncing checks/overdraftsIt is not wachovia's fault that you cant keep the funds in your checking account. I've done the same thing in the past, gone into the negative and then made several purchases afterwards using my checkcard. That resulted in a total of 90 dollars as fees for the overdrafts. This is what is laid out in contract.Just pay attention to your checking account and you wont ever have to worry. Its much easier than a class action lawsuit

I just got charged for this for April, even though the last time I logged an automatic account download was on 3/23. The lady on the phone said the only way to avoid the fee is to "de-enroll", having apparently enrolled when I added my Wachovia accounts to MS Money. So even though I turned off any automatic statement downloads, changed my password Money stores to the wrong password, and have been downloading my statements from the Wachovia website, I was still charged. That's bullshit.

Though I am guilty of sometimes overdrafting with a check card, I never complain so much about the fees. What I will complain about Wachovia doing is charging for having a negative "available balance". Once, my card was swiped for the wrong amount, so they canceled the transaction and swiped it for the correct amount. Problem is the sum of these two transactions made my "available balance" negative. After using my card several more times over the next couple days, I was fined each and every time, even though I never spent more than I had.I don't know if this is still how they work. I never use check cards anymore.
5/9/2007 1:38:01 AM
^ if it was swiped for the wrong amount, it took those funds. They would be credited back a few days later, though. That's why they say don't use check cards for purchases like that. If the people at the store told you that it wouldn't go through, they didn't have any clue what they were talking about. Banks usually dont look at stuff like that and fix it unprompted, either. You'd have to call them and point it out. Otherwise, they just let it ride and charge you money and bank on the fact that you probably wouldn't notice or say anything.

My Citibank online checking account doesn't charge us for this. And we get a 4.65% apy savings account with no minimum. Only drawback is no local branches. It means we have to mail in deposits (other than direct deposit paychecks), which for us happens maybe once a month.Wachovia savings is 0.45% apy with 10-25k in the account, and 1.50% for the same balance in a money market account. So I get about $500 more a year at citibank than I would at a branch bank.between the obnoxious charges and the awful rate of return, is it worth it to you to keep your money there? Here's a list of a few high-interest savings accounts:http://www.getrichslowly.org/blog/2007/03/21/which-online-high-yield-savings-account-is-best/[Edited on May 9, 2007 at 9:34 AM. damnit, me too
5/9/2007 9:33:54 AM
^ happened to me too ... how would I "de-enroll"??? Need to look into it.
5/9/2007 9:34:05 AM
I'm gonna de-enroll by switching to another bank
5/9/2007 9:40:08 AM
^x4Having the two at the same institution means that, with essentially free + instant transfers between the two accounts, we can take better advantage of the high rate savings.do you use atm's so often that it's really the factor that should drive your decision?
5/9/2007 9:42:47 AM
yes, definately.i only use cash at bars (which i frequent pretty often), and id rather not carry large sums of money around.ive never had a problem with money transfers, so that alone wouldnt be enough incentive for me to switch. plus as said, i really don't keep much in my checking account, so the extra couple of dollars i may make each year by keeping it in a high yield account until the second i need it doesnt outweigh the inconvinience of having to transfer the money every couple of days and driving 10-15 minutes out to an atm, imo. the ATM fees alone would probably cost more than the money i would earn in interest.im not knocking your decision, im just answering your question as to why someone would stay with wachovia.[Edited on May 9, 2007 at 12:47 PM. ^ Well there ya go. I used to spend a good bit of cash at bars, but then I was a bartender and so pretty much all I earned was in cash. The bartenders appreciate it, btw.I guess I just wanted to point out that there can be better options than just picking between brick and mortar banks.I think some of the money market accounts will let you debit out of them (E*trade?), but their rates can move about more.
5/9/2007 3:34:07 PM
they reversed my fee

i did it by the Send Message feature through online banking. i ain't got time to take a chance wasting time on the phone
5/10/2007 1:41:29 PM
What did you say in your email to get the credit? I talked to them on the phone, and sent a message. They essentially told me to go fuck myself. Both times ]
5/13/2007 4:17:10 PM
Same here. I threw out the original notice I got in the mail about it, and can't find it online. I'm pretty sure it didn't say I had to call and de-enroll, however.

Wachovia's interest rates go to 0.07% or lower, and that's with an savings account at 10K.Once I found that out I moved the majority of my money to ING where it earns 4.5% and it's no more hassle than dealing with Wachovia itself.I haven't figured out where to move my checking to, they've pissed me off so many times in the past 2-3 years it's not even funny.Their system will be down when I want to access it, sometimes my debit card wont work because their system is down for "maintenance" at like 6pm on a weekday. When i got a student credit card through them they initially declined me for "insufficient history" after telling me 3 times from 3 different people no history was needed. The problem? they apparently didnt write which exact university I went to (stupid idiots) and that somehow negated the fact I was applying for the STUDENT card and had shown them my STUDENT ID and I couldn't possibly be listed as full time graduate student under occupation. Go fig. They then told me they couldn't do anything about it untill I argued with them for about 2 hours and they found THEIR mistake.I wish i had gotten a SECU account while I worked at state but I'll be switching somewhere else once I start my job in August as they're too much fuckin hassle.[Edited on May 14, 2007 at 8:41 PM. I can't believe any of you are still with Wachovia.Unless you have 250K+ for them to work with, it's the absolute WORST bank to deal with.BB&T has 5 or 6 month CD's now with a 5.5% return, but even more importantly, they are SO much better to deal with. Any problem or concern I've ever had was solved, in person, in a matter of minutes. I don't understand why anyone still operates their savings or checking out of Wachovia.
5/15/2007 3:43:51 AM
noen i'd love to hear your thoughts on this...say i were to say "wachovia is the SHIT cause they are the most CONVENIENT to deal with if you GO TO NCSU...well i'd love to hear your retort to thatu give me a good enough reason to forgo convience and i'll switch...something tells me you aint got shit to fight that claim
5/15/2007 4:24:33 AM
^ umm actually any bank near nc state is CONVENIENT. NCSECU and BB&T have locations all over without fees for every little fucking thing. Wachovia makes a shitload of there profit off customer fees (they go out of there way to find ways to make you pay fees, they really do man). If you're going to be traveling all around then I can understand having wachovia or BOA. If you're typically in the ncsu area you can bank at other places and be treated better. There nice for ATM's, but fuck that use a credit card with a dank rewards program and pay it off each month (instead of withdrawing cash all the time, only thing there useful for).[Edited on May 15, 2007 at 5:01 AM. 5/15/2007 4:57:54 AM
^winner.I mean, DnL, if you don't want to earn interest on your money, and you want to continue paying fees you never realize, by all means stick with Wachovia.Having it linked to your NCSU account is not special. I had BB&T linked to mine, it's called BillPay. every damn bank can do that. If you want an ATM, there's a BB&T ATM at talley, and pretty sure one in the Atrium too.
5/15/2007 10:51:51 AM
So, to put everything straight, BB&T does NOT charge for Microsoft Money direct access? Thants!
5/15/2007 12:17:41 PM
Finally got them to give me my 5.95 back
5/15/2007 9:25:22 PM
They wouldn't give me my money back And I didn't even login on 5/13
5/16/2007 10:09:00 PM
They didn't SAY mine was because they were wrong, they said it was because I'm a valued customer.
5/16/2007 10:55:26 PM
i think it is crazy to see threads like this and work in the branch where ever day i get complimented on how good our customer service is. and how much they love the bank. btw, if you have that free student checking account. i think it is a new thing, they give you like an "get out of overdraft free" card that you can use now. honestly, for normal use without overdrafts, you really should be getting any fees (besides atm, but even some of those can be waived per month). I also know that ,atleast at our branch, we try to treat everybody equally. We have our favorite customers of course. But they are favorites because of how they talk with us and such, and not because of their bank accounts. hell, we do alot of things in favor of the customer that i'm not even totally cool with. and that is actually directed toward the lower accounts.i dunno. i say go to a bank that makes you feel the most comfortable.and don't yell at the bank tellers. we don't get paid enough.
5/18/2007 7:52:35 AM
nobody here is blaming the tellers for anything. the complaints here are because of decisions that executives and top managers make w/o regard to what is good or best for their customers. btw, just got mine cancelled and refunded too
5/18/2007 8:38:44 AM
hahaha they reversed the charge for mei'll have to post the email i sent later.
5/18/2007 9:42:47 AM
oh the "don't yell at the teller" thing was a separate statement all together. people tend to come in and yell at us. i'm like "hey, there isn't one fee that you pay that goes into my account."
5/18/2007 1:13:23 PM
5/18/2007 9:44:41 PM
Do any of you have more than one checking account through Wachovia? You can't pull just one account into MS Money, it pulls them all - so I'm assuming since one of those accts is a Crown, I'm not getting any charges, even on the account that isn't. I don't want to be surprised.
5/18/2007 9:59:45 PM
^ I would call, because it might be per account.
5/18/2007 11:16:56 PM
Dear Wachovia,Please follow Chase's example.Sincerely,qntmfred

Wachovia has made it so that if you have their classic banking with a minimum balance of only $1,500 you can get free Quicken/Money access.BB&T is still at $5,000.With that said, I've made the switch to BB&T since there are no Wachovia branches in Knoxville.
6/24/2008 1:18:03 PM
will this charge occur for mint.com?
