^ now THAT is funny

see here is what I don't understand...most "experts" are saying this is a good move for both because tubby will be happy and so will UK and the fans for getting someone fresh even though he did have moderate success?does this not sound familiar except that even though their fanbase might be acting similar in some ways, the experts don't seem to be bashing them for the "pressure" they put on Tubbyalso interesting that Alford is leaving...that's two coaches making moves to lesser schools because there was some discontent and unrest at the school...it happens a lot of places

dont forget your geographical bias.

Kentucky has more of a right to expect greatness than we do. That's not to say that ours was unfounded, but Kentucky is arguably the best NCAA basketball dynasty there is
3/22/2007 7:10:18 PM
well tubby smith also fielded better teams than herb did. it all fits, relatively speaking.
3/22/2007 7:21:54 PM
Wait, was he really trying to compare us to Kentucky?!?
3/22/2007 7:25:42 PM
UK is the second most succesful bball program in the country in terms of championships, the most succesful in terms of both total wins and winning percentage, and one can argue the most storied program in the country.I love State and am glad we have fans who aspire to greatness, but we simply don't compare to UK's history....[Edited on March 22, 2007 at 7:29 PM. Tubby averaged around 26 wins a seasonthis year, he had the most difficult schedule in the entire country, by ALL polls, if anyone watched UK vs Villanova they would have heard this. What coach would want to go into that situation? I was raised in Kentucky, Louisville for that matter, and i've been a fan since then.He blundered the overall top seed two years in a row, followed up by 8 or 9 seedsbut he at least instilled character, i dunno, i'd like to see some big name coach take over, just like everyone here did last yearbut i'd still settle for Travis Ford, he did well at Umass, even beating LouisvilleAnyone but the guy from Marquette

ok guys, let me clarify what i was talking about by comparing kentucky's scout board to ours.it's divided into people who think tubby was great and are saying "good job idiots, you got what you wanted" and people who are glad tubby's gone.that was the main comparission between us and them that i was going for.there's also about a million threads about who they want to be the new coach, out of pure speculation, but the main point is the previous one.that's all i meant, no comparing state to kentucky.
3/22/2007 7:35:29 PM
sorry, i understood what you were sayingand their board is far more hilariousdue to spelling, grammar, etc

^ right. that's how sports work. you hire a coach who you think can get you where you want to be. if he can't, after a few years (or 10) you part ways and try to find someone who can. no one should expect a university that has in the past done better than they are currently to be content with their current status, that's just not how it works. the right coach can change everything.except v's right, they had more than "arguably" more success than us.[Edited on March 22, 2007 at 8:13 PM. ^^dude, are you seriousarguably more success? are you just fucking kidding? were you alive in the 90'sKentucky basketball is the beacon of the entire state, not that the state has much to offer by any meansbut to try and say that NCSU basketball and Kentucky basketball are "arguably" in the same category is like saying Ron Mercer was the heir apparent to Michael Jordan in Chicago. They were an overtime away from fucking three national championships....NCSU basketball is arguably on the same level as the Washington Generals as compared to the Harlem Globetrotters[Edited on March 22, 2007 at 8:14 PM. when billy d signed he added a dream job clause for if kent ever opened up he could take it. i think hes taking it and becoming the big man on campus.and yes tubby is kentucky's herb.
3/22/2007 8:13:29 PM
har har
3/22/2007 8:16:04 PM
yeah, he'd leave a program that he's built on his own to get out of Pitino's limelitewhere he can possibly win 2 national championshipsto take over a program that expects more than 25 wins a yearnot that he couldn't change the program, but it is not worth the risk, especially with how his current program is.no way BD takes the job, if they even have the audacity to offer it to him...they need to get Ford in there, to re-ignite the fan base like Lowe did for NCSU, and he even has merit to do so

Minnesota?
3/23/2007 12:18:52 AM
i think this is awesome of tubby.uk was screwing him over and the fan base gave up on him...so he got a better offer and gets the chance to prove his merits at building a program. tubby is a class guy and was getting the raw deal...i think this is awesome of him.
3/23/2007 12:26:57 AM
IIRC Minnesota was in the final four in 1998 with Kentucky and Arizona...maybe Wisconsin was the other team? But, i doubt he'll be able to bring that program back to where they were with Clem HaskinsHe just had a high paying way out...and even Kentucky paid him his April 3rd Bonusthe program is down, no question, and as an avid follower i'm curious as to how things will turn out, with the coaching search, etcregardless, Tubby Smith brought in Chuck Hayes, and he's the most ridiculous 6'6 power forward in the NBA
