Aston makes a people's car

Aston Martin Cygnet

(modified Toyota iQ, an ultracompact sold in Japan and Europe... 1.3 litre 99 hp engine)

Quote :
"Aston Martin has released new images of the highly controversial Cygnet concept.

While the company didn't provide any new information, they stated the Cygnet "represents a creative, environmentally conscious solution, being small, yet with presence - and highly fuel efficient, now combined with the prestige of Aston Martin's luxury brand ownership."

Based on the Toyota iQ, the Cygnet features classic Aston Martin styling cues (grille, front fender vents, and hidden door handles), unique tail lights, and an oversized rear spoiler. Inside, the car boasts gloss black trim, premium leather upholstery, and an iPhone dock.

Power will likely be provided by a Toyota-sourced 1.33-liter Dual VVT-i engine with 99 bhp. Thanks to a start/stop system, the CVT equipped Cygnet should have a combined fuel consumption rating of 55 mpg and a CO2 emissions rating of 120 g/km.

Despite being called a concept, Aston admits development will continue into 2010 and will most likely go into production in 2010 or 2011. To help perverse Aston's premium status, sales will be restricted to Europe only."

what a joke. who says to make a small "environmentally conscious" car you have to make it FUGLY and slow?

This is worse for brand image than the Cadillac Cimarron.

Add another 50 horsepowerz (and 50ft-lbs) and I'd be interested. I've already got one of dem 88hp "econo" vehicles. IT'S FRUSTRATINGLY SLOW AS LEAD BALLS

Hilariously sad...

Quote :
"There are few automakers on earth as exclusive as Aston Martin, so we were more than a little surprised when the English exoticmaker announced it was going to build the Cygnet, a city car based on the prosaic Toyota iQ. After all, we chastise automakers for rebadging all the time, but Ford, Honda and General Motors products don't have anywhere near the exclusivity of Aston Martin. Then there is the Cygnet's reported $35,000 price tag. Some Aston purists were a little taken back by the "modest" $120,000 price tag of the V8 Vantage, so a $35,000 Toyota with a Rapide grille probably won't go over well with more than a few loyalists.

The New York Times has shed a little light on the subject, reporting that only owners of full-sized Astons will be eligible to purchase the Cygnet. Aston Martin CEO Ulrich Bez said in the winter issue of Aston Martin magazine that "this concept is akin to an exclusive tender for a luxury yacht." If that doesn't make sense to you non-yacht owners, think of it as a 105 mph golf cart for Aston owners.

To further help the Cygnet stay exclusive, Aston only plans to build 2,000 copies of the iQ-based city car and there are no current plans to sell the mini car in the U.S. market, so it might be fair to say this is a bit of a commuter special for Londonites. Even still, while this novel sales plan may help to mitigate potential brand degredation that Cygnet skeptics suggest it may bring about, we can't help but wonder how the thousands of non-Cygnet toting Aston owners will feel about their favored brand dipping a foot into the House of Toyota."

Are they making this due to fleet mileage laws?

Aston Martin One-77 officially rated at 750 bhp

That makes it the most powerful NA car ever. Here is Episode 4 of the official Aston video about the One-77... dig up the first 3 if you are so inclined:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfk09-SphAk 7.3 litre V12 sounds great!

Rarer than a Veyron, and MORE expensive as well!

This watch will unlock and lock your DB9's doors! And if you press on both areas at the same time, it will flash its lights so you can find it.

For $25,000!

(This is the latest in a line, previous ones were/are made to open your DBS and Rapide)
