Funny you should state that. Many of the practices are masonic in nature. Mormon leaders have stated that masonry has some of the fullness of the gospel and that joseph smith restored the full fullness of the gospel.

Really it's just the baptists that don't have leadership.

a lot of protestant churches have leadership, bishops for example.

After the death of Joseph Smith, there was contention over who was to lead the Church. Brigham Young was president of the Quorum of the 12 apostles and claimed the right. James Strang believed he had been appointed the successor to Joseph Smith and with him he had many prominent followers. Namely William Smith (Joseph Smith's brother), Martin Harris, William Marks, James E. Page, etc. Over 100 prominent mormons believed him to be the successor. http://www.strangite.org/Famous.htm

http://www.strangite.org/

Sidney Rigdon's sect or Bickertonite sect, claimed that since Sidney Rigdon was the only remaining living member of the First Presidency that he was to lead the church. It refuted many of the more controversial teachings of the early church.

http://www.thechurchofjesuschrist.com/

Then of course there are other sects: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Latter_Day_Saint_denominations

One of the hidden secrets of Mormonism is that it is a millenarianist sect. Ezra Taft Benson (former secretary of agriculture, and later president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) had a strong belief that Christ would one day come again soon and during the initial signs of the apocalypse mormons needed food storage in order to sustain themselves. This was also because of Benson's fear of communists (extremely anti-communist). His grandson has produced quite a bit of information about his grandfather in terms of this.

It is actually one of the few teachings of the mormon church I actually support It is important to have at least 3 days worth of food that you can access. The thing that mormons forget is to rotate this food.

there was a saying back in the day at BYU that "Oral is Moral"

in reality though, Oral sex is even forbidden in marriage. But it can be forgiven much more so that sex out of wedlock; because out of wedlock sex is one of the worst sins one can commit. unlike oral it can lead to excoummicaiton.

yes and no. They do use attractive women to draw in new members, but at the same time, they do not trust the attractive women to be chaste in the mission field, so they make them serve missions at Temple Square.

i've slept with a mormon girl actually.

that aside...

Do you really believe that native americans were israelites who turned and G-d punished them?

If yes{

why are so many mormon issues centered around race and the darkening of the skin as a curse. You mentioned previously the curse of Ham in regards to where blacks came from the view of some christians, but this is entirely outdated, never mentioned in the bible explicitly and not even commonly known about.

depends on the family completely. Some really out there families refuse to pay for education if it is not a church owned school.

Quote :

Yes, they believe they are lamanites (tribe of manasa, supposedly) who turned from god so they were given a mark and a curse. Nephites were White and delightsome.

Because the early church leaders were racist cunts. the curse of Ham/Cain is explicitly written in the Bible. That is where I believe Joseph Smith, Brigham Young and others received the ability to create the racist doctrine.

Cain is mentioned, but its said he was given a mark, not he was turned black. same thing with ham basically.

Mormons specifically say they turned their skin because they fell from G-d or whatever and thast why they are not as good as us.

its pretty fucked up for anyone to be a mormon and consider themselves christian with an attitude like that.

i feel the same about all racist bigots, but at least all of them don't use their religion to justify it.

The minds weren't changed. The practice has just been suspended for the time being. There is still celestial polygamy in which a male can be sealed to another woman if his first wife is decease. Russel Nelson (Quorum of the 12) did that recently. In some rare cases, a male who is divorced is allowed to have a second sealing to their new wife without having the first sealing vacated. This is closer to polygamy than the widower remarying in the Temple.

yes, most notably the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Early Churh leaders took the mark being placed on Cain to mean turned his skin black. Those references to White and Delightsome have been changed in the Book of Mormon post 1978 to read Pure and Delightsome.

That means she was disfellowshiped. That means that she must have gone to a Church Court. I'm surprised she wasn't excommunicated for adultery.

Performed his temple ordinances for him. Namely baptized him, endowed him, and sealed him to Eva Braun after death.

The last time I looked at one '99 it said that multiple intercourse outside of marriage was adultery and required a priesthood court. This very well could have changed. Plus with her newfound epiphany they would most likely not excommunicate her, rather just disfellowship her for a time.

before a temple is dedicated it can viewed by the public, however, once dedicated it is closed to everyone except those with an active temple recommend.

non-members are allowed to attend church services at any buidling except for temples.

ok, so what is the rationale behind only letting mormons into the temple, what goes on there that non-believers cant be privy to? and is there any truth to the heavenly names that are supposedly given to husband and wife during the marriage ceremony, and is it true that the husband knows the wifes name but she doesnt know his?

The original intention of blocking non-members from attending the temple was the practice of plural marriage. They didn't want prying eyes. The rationale behind it now is that there are extremely sacred practices that go on in the temple and can only be observered by non-members.

The activities that go on inside include, baptism for the dead, endowments, sealings. during the endowment, the members are first shown a video (unless in SLC or Manti then it is a play) and then they are shown the tokens of the priesthood. They are then taken through the veil and given a temple name (same name for everyone who goes through on that day). When a women is sealed to her husband she is taken through the veil and she tells him her name. Yes it is true that the woman doesn't know the husbands name unless he tells her. The idea is that in the after life, the husband will call out to his wife using her temple name and that is how he'll know where she is.

Also, during the endowment ceremony (pre-1990) they took blood oaths that they would never divulge what they learn.

So I invited two Mormons in to talk with me about the religion. They first asked if anyone else was in the house, bc they could not come in if I was alone. I get why that could be sketchy but is that also some mormon thing?

These guys were probably 21 years old and they were calling themselves elders. Can you explain that to me as well bc there is biblical scripture that describes eldership?

Is the book of mormon more important than the bible?

What I did learn about this religion that day seemed kind of cuckoo! How did the founders get people to actually follow this religion?

It is because you are female. Back in the day they had problems with missionaries having sex with female investigators and female members. Hence the ruels.

Elder is an office in the melchizedek priesthood. I was an elder before I was excommunicated. It is also the title given to missionaries.

Quote :

It is another testament to Jesus christ. It is also believed to be more correct than the Bible. If there was to be some sort of hierarchy to the scripture that would be it. but i've never heard anyone say either one is more important.

It got its start during the Great Awakening.

Now, as I understand it, we all live in a universe ruled by a God who is in reality one of a bunch of gods, each with their own universe, and that "our" God is not even particularly more important than any of the others, except insofar as He's the one that can kick our ass if He wants. Is that about accurate? What sort of hierarchy is there among all these gods?

Also, what the fuck?
