i don't know what they think they're doing....even if he makes a full recovery, he's in the latter stages of his career. that money could be better used somewhere else.^gaines started a lot at TE last year, so who knows?[Edited on March 1, 2007 at 2:18 PM. Rucker is definitely worth the money now that his contract has pretty much been cut in half
3/1/2007 3:05:13 PM
Jeff King is the future!seriously, this guy was pretty good at VT, solid athlete. caught just one TD last year? was inactive a lot of the year.[Edited on March 1, 2007 at 3:14 PM. Reason : .]

^maybe^^not if he isn't producing, then he becomes a liability....his numbers have been in steady decline for a few years now, the injury is just going to add to that. Should have released him, and looked at the DE from tampa that will be a FA (not rice, the other one). Mcglover will probably take the starting spot anyway, so Rucker may be a viable back up, I'm just wary of severe injuries like that late in a career.[Edited on March 1, 2007 at 3:36 PM. Reason : .]
3/1/2007 3:20:27 PM
Maybe we could get Brian Simmons, he'll provide valuable depth at the LB spot.
3/1/2007 3:33:52 PM
^i've heard they're looking at london fletcher (who apparently changed his last name to fletcher-baker).
3/1/2007 3:36:11 PM
yea, but fletcher comes at higher price. Beside, i heard the Redskins want him, and we don't want to get into a bidding war with Daniel Snyder. Brian Simmons has stated that he wants to play for the Panthers. Maybe he'll take the hometown discount.

man hankton was my boy
3/2/2007 12:02:16 AM
Maybe we'll look towards Donnie Edwards or even Joey Porter for MLB.
3/2/2007 1:11:11 AM
maybe terrance kiel at safety?
3/2/2007 1:24:40 AM
^kiel has potential. he has a 96 rating for my '09 Chargers team.
3/2/2007 8:45:27 AM
^^^ I would like Porter, at least he would add depth, but @ $5.0xx million I don't think we can afford him. Our best bet would have been a trade with the Steelers but obviously they were asking way to much in return.
3/2/2007 12:21:27 PM
I didn't know that draft was a FA this year....If he goes, we'll have huge issues @ LB.
3/2/2007 12:31:49 PM
3/2/2007 12:32:54 PM
^I've heard from several different sources that henning just didn't like shelton.....for example, two year's ago, his issue was supposed to be fumbling, but last year he cut down on fumbles in limited PT in preseason, but he still hardly made an appearance. There was a game where he got in a little when foster was hurt, and he looked pretty good to me.we should also look at getting deion grant back in FA.[Edited on March 2, 2007 at 12:48 PM. Reason : .]

Diggs was resigned.
3/2/2007 11:50:45 PM
21 of 22 "starters" under contract for next year....not sure if that is a good or bad thing coming off an 8-8 season. Panthers said they were going to play it cool until the initial first week flurry is over. means we probably won't overpay, but we also probably won't get that big impact player....of the two defensive positions in which we need major attention (saftey and lb) i think we need an impact player from free agency @ one of the two positions. the draft just will not provide an opportunity to fill all our major needs immediately.
3/5/2007 12:17:36 PM
^ Weren't those same "starters" the poppy pick to win the superbowl last year until we were devastated by injuries after the 1st 4 weeks? Last year was practice, this is our year (very afriad of patriots all of a sudden though).....
3/5/2007 12:26:55 PM
Wish we had a shot at Porter...
3/5/2007 12:47:39 PM
^he wouldn't fit in the 4-3 defense anyway.
3/5/2007 1:00:50 PM
He'd be a nice addition to a soft defense though.[Edited on March 5, 2007 at 1:43 PM. Reason : sp]

Randy McMichael was released by Dolphins. Didn't hear much from him this year, but he may be a decent pick-up at TE.

plz to do everythihng possible to sign mcmichaelhe always seemed to torch us

Just saw on TV that Bears LB Lance Briggs is refusing to resign with Chicago.I wonder if we have a shot at him or are even trying?
3/6/2007 2:23:51 PM
^we probably don't have enough cap room to sign Briggs. Also, I saw Brian Simmons signed with the Saints. I was hoping that we would sign him. At least sign Christ Draft back, he was the best LB on the team last season.
3/6/2007 2:38:31 PM
^^I thought Chicago franchised him like a week ago??
3/6/2007 3:35:05 PM
I think they were trying to, but he said on SC that he was so pissed at the Chicago organization (not the team or coaches) that he would do everything in his power to not go back there.Might we dangle a few draft picks for him?
3/6/2007 4:21:40 PM
^doubt we have the cap room.....unless there is a sign and trade, which is highly unlikely.
3/6/2007 4:26:40 PM
Weinke = gone
3/6/2007 6:32:59 PM
^supposedly bringing in Marques Tuiasosopo for a workout? wtf?something needs to be done cause I just don't see old Jake getting it done for us. I've never really been a huge Jake fan.
3/6/2007 6:43:00 PM
well atleast Wienkie is outta there THANK GOD, he did nothing but piss me off, not as much as Jake, I mean i stand behind our team no matter what, not a huge Jake fan, but MAYBE just MAYBE ole' Foxy will pull something off for a backup-Jake gets hurt-backup ends up being pretty decent and build from there.I would say get rid of Jake all together, but I just don't like the idea of a rookie leading our team, with the luck we have and all. Sure it works for some teams, but Jesus God if we tried it, we would have a 0-16 season.
3/6/2007 7:35:23 PM
As far as the Tuiasosopo visit, I think that we could draft a QB in the 3rd/4th round (i.e. Leak, Smith, Stanton, etc.) that could serve just as good as a backup as he could. I would just as soon see the movie that could possibly go to him go somewhere else.
3/6/2007 7:45:03 PM
I didn't know the panthers signed kevin youngblood (from Clemson) a few days ago.
3/7/2007 9:42:11 AM
3/7/2007 10:38:07 AM
^yes, whats your point, he is not reliable, some games he is on it and others he looks like shit, we need him to be consistant or just be gone, i hate getting ready to watch the game and i am talking with everyone on how we think the panthers will play that day and the comment is always made "it just all depends on which Jake shows up today, and how the O-Line holds up today"
3/7/2007 5:21:47 PM
3/7/2007 5:41:50 PM
no not really as we all know jake likes to throw pics even on days that the O-line does just fine
3/7/2007 9:14:49 PM
ive always said that jake throws 2 picks a day, guaranteed. 2 stupid idiotic throws. whether the other team catches it is up to them though. i love it when he gets them out in the 1st quarter, then we can catch up and get back in it
3/7/2007 10:18:56 PM
he only throws the picks when he gets the "happy feet." you can call the pick even before the ball leaves his hands when he starts dancing behind center.
3/8/2007 11:03:33 AM
so Lunchbox who are we supposed to go out and get, Peyton Manning? Cause I dont think he's availableBut lets just throw Jake under the bus even after seeing how horrible Weinke was last year..the only game Weinke has won in 3 seasons (since the Vikings game) he threw 7 passes and they snapped it to Deangelo Williams half the plays and ran all over the porous St. Louis defense (I thought Will Witherspoon was supposed to be a star linebacker??)Every QB throws picks and no team has gone undefeated since 72 Fins....oh btw Jake was 7-6 last year...the year before NFC title game...year before almost singlehandedly (with Moose) made the playoffs despite Smith breaking his leg in week 1...year before that, Superbowl appearance...but oh no he doesnt have a 100% completion percentage lets get rid of him[Edited on March 8, 2007 at 11:07 AM. Reason : .]
3/8/2007 11:05:53 AM
the problem with jake imo are the stupid ints he throws instead of just throwing the ball away. If he'd stop doing that, he'd reduce his int mark by 7 or 8 a season. Also, take away that seattle playoff game a few years ago, and jake was statistically one of the best playoff QB's ever. Even with the shitty seattle game, he has a playoff QB rating in the 90's.
3/8/2007 11:24:58 AM
^hes a gambler. Typical of a Cajun.I think Jake deserves at least one more season to prove himself. If we have to replace him then that means more $$ on QB (very expensive position to fill) when we already have more pressing needs to throw $$ at. He already restrucured his contract to help save the team $$ and he comes cheaply and is a great value. You dont have to be Manning to win the SB, you just have to be a good enough QB to steer the best ship to victory. The panthers have never been a QB oriented team. The way Fox wants to win is by running the ball first to open up the pass game and let the D do most of the work. Jake has proven he is pro-bowl caliber & can steer the ship just fine when the rest of the team is healthy and playing in sync. Lets just hope for Jake's sake that we stay friggin healthy this year !
3/8/2007 1:20:12 PM
^the prob. is we don't have the type of RB we need for that type of O.
