2/1/2007 6:59:01 PM
why would he concede to the point when he could say a quick joke and get the audience on his side!
2/1/2007 7:04:58 PM
The audience is on his side regardless.
2/1/2007 7:11:07 PM
pardon me...when he can tell a joke and get the audience riled up to drown out his guest's opposing view
2/1/2007 7:14:40 PM
i get so sick of his studio audience
2/1/2007 7:19:54 PM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaF4VlEGi8MI searched through 10 pages of results on YouTube for TDS, and that was the only interview I saw with someone who has an opposing view, and he's far nicer to Coulter there than I would have been. The audience even cheered for her in the beginning a little bit.
2/1/2007 7:51:37 PM
well he has certainly interviewed more than one person who had an opposing viewpoint/was republican/was conservativejust keep it in mind next time...he's playing both sidesmost of colbert's audience seems liberal also but i think they appreciate the humor...i'd like to see if stewart would have similar success if his audience was conservative
2/1/2007 7:56:35 PM
I wasn't claiming he didn't interview opposing people, I was looking for examples of what you described, and I couldn't find any. And the one sample I found that might support your view does not. If you know of a specific guest he did this to, it would help me narrow my search. What's wrong with playing both sides? Stewart calls himself a libertarian, and they're allowed to do that.[Edited on February 1, 2007 at 7:59 PM. Reason : ]
2/1/2007 7:59:01 PM
because playing both sides misleads a lot of peoplesome of his mental slave audience members dont know if hes playing the serious side or the joking side and they'll believe anythingi like TDS, its a funny show, but some of it is just dumb
2/1/2007 8:06:19 PM
Some of you are out of your mind. The Biden story was front page news on the NYT and other "liberal" outlets. That's pretty damn long coverage of a senator that most of america doesn't know. Furthermore, his previous gaffes such as the 711 thing were also covered in the mainstream media, and that was before he even announce his intention to run. There is no way his gaffes would ever get as much coverage as the fucking president. Also, this has been a pretty eventful news week. Some people just have a victim complex.
2/1/2007 8:17:00 PM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6qhJTAan84Here's another interview with Bill Kristol that more recent, and he does dismiss him with a joke near the end of the interview, but he doesn't rile the audience up to drown him out. Kristol seemed to become a bit frustrated about 3/4 of the way in though. For the majority of the interview, he's pretty respectful. I can't speak for the audience members, but if someone misinterprets Stewart's view, it's their own failing, not Stewart's. I don't have sympathy for that person. I have a friend that use to think Colbert was serious with his schtick, until I explained it to him. This was mostly because my friend didn't follow politics, and didn't get the references, not because Colbert was being intentionally deceptive. There's no good reason to interpret things in a left/right manner, and I don't think people should try to force Stewart in to that mold. Stewart does lean left, but not in all of his views.[Edited on February 1, 2007 at 8:24 PM. Reason : sp]

saying stewart leans left is a big understatementand i agree his audience members are dumb but he facilitates that[Edited on February 1, 2007 at 8:20 PM. Reason : .]

to be fair, allen in early 06 was a top 5 presidential contender for 08. Biden never has been top 5.

"where is the liberal outrage?"
2/1/2007 10:40:45 PM
TDS and The Colbert Report audiences are both annoying as hell. Sometimes they do OK, but just way too often when Jon Stewart actually is trying to be serious, they end up cheering and clapping or booing or whatever, ruining whatever mood Jon is trying to set. Also, sometimes (yes, believe it or not), Jon goes off the Democratic line with his own opinions or gets into something that is just way over his audiences head, and he basically has to coach them. you can almost hear the audience thinking out loud sometimes... "is that was democrats think? am i supposed to laugh at that or clap.....?"Recently, it's apparent Jon Stewart thinks we should be sending much more troops to Iraq than 21,000 (i think he wants more troops now, not just more troops 3 years ago, which i think everyone agrees on now). whenever he says this, you can tell the audience is confused because they're pretty sure that's not what most Democrats would think, so what do they do - support their hero, Jon Stewart, or stick with the party line
2/1/2007 11:05:31 PM
TDS's audience is 100x more annoying than Colbert's
2/1/2007 11:07:34 PM
yeah, well Colbert's audience doesn't have to think quite as much as Stewart's do. With Colbert, you basically laugh at everything. Then during the interview, you clap if Colbert "disagrees" with his guest, and boo if he agrees with them. Otherwise you still just laugh a lot and you'll be fine.
2/1/2007 11:19:35 PM
^^^ I agree with all of that.I was about to bring up what you said in your last paragraph too, but I didn't think it would add to the thread, yet.
2/1/2007 11:31:00 PM
^^actually i would think colbert's audience has to think more since colbert makes obscure references while stewart resorts to voice impersonationsor to put it another way, i think for the most part colbert's audience is watching it as a comedy show...i think stewart's audience is watching it as a guidebook to impeach bush![Edited on February 1, 2007 at 11:34 PM. ^^ and ^ I couldn't care less what you shitheads think I contribute. Fuck off.Try to focus: It is my opinion that Biden has not been the same person since he had brain surgery--make of that what you will. Hell, I'll bet you didn't even know he had the surgery.

welp, liberal media making sure they bury a non-Hillary/Obama candidate. Go get em!

^^the picture added so much thought to the post that i couldnt even focus on you telling me something i already knew.^from what i have seen the media that most loves hillary is fox news. mostly because they know she would get her ass kicked. but then again, if the "liberal" media wasnt making a big deal out of this you would call it double standards and be bitching for pages about it.

reading the comments... good lord. one group of people think Biden is the sweetest and best VP that has ever existed, and this is evidence of his perfection. a different group thinks he is either a pedophile trying to swap spit with a toddler or is a bumbling senile old man who needs a pacifier.I might not agree with all of his politics, and often laugh at his gaffs, but this is a human playing a game with a child. (and my 1 year old boy thinks that game is HILARIOUS.) This is NOT a gaff or cause to question his senility. This is a man who, in the eyes of that kid, is a genuine good person who is playing a funny game.

how is ANY paparazzi picture a story? OMG britney spears looks like she has a fat roll because of the way she is sitting! OMG so and so is wearing a skirt short enough to expose her underwear [when shot from underneath by an unscrupulous photographer]!!!

I'd go in on a pay-per-view boxing match to see those two old farts go at it for 3 rounds. Trump wins, they use pay-per-view money for the wall. Biden wins, no wall and the money goes straight to paying US debt.
