there is an extended-release version of minocycline sold as the Solodyn brand name I've seen a few people on that from the pharmacy.

A couple questions for you people.

My dermatologist in Charlotte is putting me on Accutane, and I am going to get the bloodwork done tomorrow. Since I live in Raleigh and only come back here to visit every now and then, I need to find a dermatologist in Raleigh. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Also, they told me to avoid sunlight as much as possible, because I could get severe sunburn while taking this. Did anyone have any issues with that? Obviously I'll be wearing a strong sunscreen when I go outside.

i never really noticed having worse sunburn than normal...

It really does dry out your skin though, and I broke out pretty bad after about a week or two of starting treatment... but that's supposed to be normal.

The only bad side effect I had was more hair than normal coming out when I ran my fingers through it.. it never became noticeable hair loss, and once I stopped treatment it went back to normal strength...

oh.. and yeah, accutane works pretty good

i did 2 cycles of accutane in high school and my skin was great while on it and immediate after.

i am now 24 and still have acne like a damn teenager...and all of my breakouts are of the cystic variety.

So uh I just got this stuff and it says do not consume alcoholic beverages while taking this medication.

I was not aware of this before.

I took it in high school, and I still have bad skin. It really helped for about 3 years, but slowly began to come back. And I would never, ever consider taking that crap again.

my skin was decently bad until i took it (i tried some other stuff like retin a and minocycline and they didnt work).

my skin isnt perfect now but is a ton better and it hasnt gotten any worse in probably 7 or so years.

I have been off of accutane for probably 8 years now... haven't had anything on my face since and before I took it, my acne was bad... unfortunately, the side effects are real. I never got depressed, but it stunted my growth and I gained a lot of weight that I am still trying to get off.

^ I knew that was coming... however, i'm not short (6 feet tall) and am not fat (certainly not skinny though). Per my doctor at the time, accutane can mess with your growth plates and considering I stopped growing at about the age of 15 or 16 that sent up a red flag.
