I'm curious, Ivan why did you suggest a 996 over a 993? As far as a sporting car the 993 is superior in most people's eyes.

MattJM321, I'd go with the 993. However, you need to do a lot of research on maintenance and insurance costs, b/c it won't be cheap. (of course, that can be said of most of the cars listed).

^^^^mainly because the 996 is 5 years newer. i know the 993 is generally considered superior, but imo not enough so to justify the age difference. especially for the only 32k you have. i'd have a real hard time swallowing that for an 11 year old car that's just going to continue to depreciate. for as long as he'll probably own it anyway. just my opinion though, and not really based on any technical aspects.

i didn't realize personal injury was the issue. my original "dig" was that since you destroyed a vehicle after losing control in a pile of leaves you'd do even worse to a bike.

you are correct. gear would have saved my ass in my first wreck, i thought you were talking about the one i had 3 months ago. i know of no amount of gear that would have prevented my injuries there. maybe a full suit of steel armor, lol.

Whoever was talking about a first gen Integra, I bought one when I was 16 for $600. That bitch had 275k miles and it ran like a top. The flip up headlights were cool too... Half of my friends learned how to drive stick in it.

But anyway I like the 993 for originality's sake. I test drove one a couple of days ago and really liked it, except for the 70's interior. I didn't like the S4. My brother's G35 is really nice and quick, but my brother has one. I'm going to look an 02 M3 tomorrow. The Jag is nice, looked at one in person and it's to much of an old man's car. I've also thought about a CTS-V, but the ass of that thing is really ugly. Also the new body style just came out.

No Corvettes.

Anyways I've been doing some thinking...I might cop out and get a 5 year old Lexus LS or something big and reliable. Last year I put 45k miles on my truck...I'd hate to do that to a poor 993. I drive mostly all interstate with a little bit of 4wd required hunting trips. Decisions.

I understand how the 993 is much older. But it has a more solid engine, and is a smaller, lighter car than the 996 (more in the 911 spirit of things).

If you're gonna be putting 45k a year on whatever car you buy, then you shouldn't buy anything you listed.

I also wouldn't buy a Lexus LS, unless you want a really boring car. blah
