2i think that red hat is funny as shit, could you imagine the reverse? That hat says one of three things to me:1. I am a Dale Jr. fan and I possibly live in Smithfield (no offense).2. I could not point out where Chapel hill is on a map of NC and I am not even sure what goes on there. 3. The person is gayer than fucking shit.[Edited on January 22, 2007 at 2:49 PM. fuck espn. how can dukecarolina be the great rivalry that they promote it as if it's only been a rivalry since the 80s? ridiculous.fuck anyone who goes here and pulls for carolina OVER US. if you grew up a carolina fan and can't help but keep them as your second team, fine. it's annoying, but fine. but don't ever pull against your own school, especially in a game that we care so much about.

not to mention kenan stadium is always full when State plays there, and from what the i've heard people say it doesn't do the same for other games

Yeah, but that really has nothing to with the context, but you're correct. I was just saying it so folks who might not understand the time period can compare. We never 'beat up on everyone' in that time period was my point. I'm sure you know how Valvano treated the regular season... as a means to the tourney and nothing more.
1/22/2007 6:59:46 PM
^ Yeah, I gotcha. I know you of all people would realize the difference b/t the 80's and the 00's of UNC basketball.... but it isn't really fair to V to say he had trouble beating UNC. Everyone did in that time, as they will in the near future. I actually didn't know you posted that.I still think to say we ever 'beat up on' Carolina is stretching it (And I have no idea who said that, you or anyone, i just read that)About the only time that may be true would have been in the Case years. From what I can recall, case owned Frank McGuire. We may have held our own the rest of the time, but UNC has always been a damn good basketball team... unlike state [Edited on January 22, 2007 at 7:12 PM. Reason : ]

^ There's always been hatred there (Like State), but it wasn't what it is now until K put little ole Duke on the map. Duke has always been solid (Albeit not as good as State until K took over), but the reason that rivalry has taken off is becuase K made Duke the #1 dynasty in college basketball over the past 15 years. That, and ESPN hyping the shit out of it. I still say that UNC/Duke is a bigger rivalry nationally, but NCSU/UNC is a bigger rivalry in the state of North Carolina. Seriously.... I work in an office. Whoever loses the UNC/State game is hearing it for months. Duke kids move back up north. For recruiting implications... Duke is bigger. For all out bragging rights in NC, gotta go with UNC/State. yeah, cause Bubas sucked ass when he was there in the 60s. He only won the ACC and made the Final Four 3 out of 4 years. Sure Krzyzewski has had the longest streak of being really really good, but I would say that after the 50s, aside from about 4 years in the early 70s and 80s, Duke and Carolina have both been ahead of State and have been a bigger rivalry.UNC and Duke have accounted for 31 of the ACC's 53 conference tournament championships. UNC and Duke hold the top two spots all-time in the ACC in wins, ACC regular-season wins, ACC Tournament wins and NCAA Tournament winsI always heard this argument from State fans, that Duke/Carolina wasnt big until the early/mid 80s but I did some research, not true at all. State dominated early on in basketball, but after Case was gone its been pretty much Duke and Carolina aside from the years mentioned above. [Edited on January 22, 2007 at 7:26 PM. Reason : d]

hahahah, I didnt even know they were playing... I couldnt care less. About the only thing I can get up for is when they play UConn because I hate Auriemma's punk ass. Ok, I lied, even that cant get me excited
1/22/2007 7:27:30 PM
haha ya i figured you woudlnt care but i figure'd I'd bring it up anyway it was 19-0 after 6 minutes gone before tenn scored :x

^^ yeah, it amazes me how much people get into it though. They draw 15,000 to 20,000 for games, place is packed tonight and sounds loud as hell; I think I might have gone to two games while I was at UT, and one of those was because I was working security at a concert afterwards.^Before K got there it was 8-5 acc championships, and 4 of State's 8 were in the 50s when i admitted that State was better. So, since the 50s, it was 4-5 in favor of Duke. Obviously Duke has gotten to a higer level with Coach K, but they werent garbage by any means before then.[Edited on January 22, 2007 at 7:45 PM. tenn got it to 14 and you'd think the roof blew off and then the chick from duke hit a 27 ft (no not a typo) BOMB and duke was back infront 17 .... she's 5-5 from 3 and she's got 21 of dukes 36 pointsfor president .... she can straight fill it up, we need to get her a mustache and a scholarshipNamed Gatorade and McDonald’s National Player of the Year ... as a senior, averaged 32.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.7 steals and 6.9 assists at ThunderRidge H.S. ...we'll put her in ferg's spot in the rotation until he finds his courage [Edited on January 22, 2007 at 7:46 PM. ^^ I never said you didn't have to dig to discover State's accomplishments All I'm saying is that State was every bit as good as Duke on a national scale until the V fiasco/the coming of K. Duke wasn't garbage at all, but in reality, wasn't that much better of a program than say.... a Maryland up to that point. A few great players and a few more ACC Championships than Maryland, but they weren't the awe of college basketballAt the time UNC/State was a bigger rivalry based on the fact that those two had 10 times the alumni Duke did and everyone in NC was a fan of one or the other, but not Duke. It still mostly is that way, but UNC hates Duke more becuase we have dropped off of the face of the earth and died while Duke is one of the top dynasties aroundI'm also not saying the rivalry was born in the 80's (I didn't originally post that), but it's pretty obvious K coupled with the demise of NC State made it 'THE' rivalry in the ACC (And the nation)[Edited on January 22, 2007 at 7:48 PM. yes it was ... and now it's not . why are we still discussing this.the thread was about gay carolina fans who go to state, and now it's about the Duke/ Tenn game, get with the program

1/22/2007 7:50:50 PM
^^^^ I can agree with most of that. Although I think the UNC/Duke rivalry started a bit early with the recruiting battles in the late 50s and early 60s up in NY/Philly between McGuire and Bubas[Edited on January 22, 2007 at 7:51 PM. Reason : d]
