werd, I was just wondering what yall were towing in regards to a "Powerchoke" not making enough power. Single axle trailers FTW
1/19/2007 7:11:07 PM
^ I drive a powerchoke F-550 at work, no trailer, not sure of the GVWR, it's the 7.3 though, and it's nasty sluggish. At my other job we have a F-450 with the 6.0 and it's just as bad, maybe a little bit better. When I was looking at new trucks I drove them both on the same day and the D/A had way more pep to it, numbers aside.

haha... that's awesome
1/20/2007 9:13:09 AM
haha, yeah, i just emailed them (http://www.billetbadges.com) to see if they can put the raleigh logo in place of the maltese cross. this way i could install it before i take it to the station. tell me that wouldn't throw some firemen off.
1/20/2007 9:17:34 AM
I'd get a CFD patch, but we seem to change it every few years! now an IAFF logo would be awesome, let me know what they say and how much

My group at work has a 15000lb trailer that we have to pull around... so they convinced the director to purchase "the biggest longest diesel worktruck possible"... so we ended up with a f350 dually crew cab work truck (power nothing) with the 6L powerstroke diesel...then one of the guys was like "this isn't going to be enough power we NEED the mod chip"director approved it... 550ft-lbs later we're going to need new tires before the years out...superchip is sweet... can change towing-performance-stock in hardly any time at all...performance makes the thing ERUPT in black smoke... and will chirp the tires at 50 if you gun it.... not a personal vehicle but still a hell of a lot of fun to drive around... congrats on your purchase
1/20/2007 8:13:02 PM
no offense guys, but when your towing isn't it much better to not worry about trying to beat the camero off the line? it'll be a lot better on your wallet tires, fuel, clutches, oil changes, rear ends, hitchesand calling a f350 or a 550 "sluggish" is a bs because according to the stastics I recall they are the fastest accelerating trucks out of the whole group*. DON'T chip your trucks, ain't good for them (unless you tune it down) I had a 550 for two.5 years and didn't chip it, pulled ~25k with it every day and had no injector problems or anything else, main reason you buy the 550 is gvwr is 17,950 and the brakes are the biggest in that seires. But as some of you know I traded it for my C7500 which is a fine truck main reason I upgraded was for better braking and longer intervals between services (now ~11k then every 3-4k= profit) ironic thing is the f550 would probably outrun the kodiak (granted the kodiak is heavier) just a funny side item[Edited on January 20, 2007 at 8:58 PM. Reason : *while towing]

Well you can call BS all day long, bottom line is that I drive them and have driven them and there are times that they can't get out of their own way, like I said neither of them are in a towing situation, both have body's on them with equipment, one has a 300 gallon water tank on it. I think it's just because they're almost overloaded. Towing may be another story, I don't know, can't attest to it. But I do know when towing with another F-450 using tandem axle trailers that are heavy (don't know the exact weight off the top of my head) we have to empty the 300 gallon tank to even think about moving them. I have also driven non-modded powerstrokes and they don't compare to the D/A combo, modded is a different story. As for mine it's bone stock save the tint, line-x and steps. I do plan on adding a more free flowing exhaust and an intake, but that's where the line will be drawn.I thought I was going to like the powerstroke more than the D/A and wasn't even going to consider buying a GM, that was until I drove them both... for me the D/A took the cake. oh well though to each his own

lol. i actually would be very interested in splitting the cost of the trailer with someone around here that's into 4 wheeling, and i'd provide the tow rig. it'd make trips alot better.[Edited on January 21, 2007 at 1:00 AM. Reason : .]

^true. which is why the only mods i plan on doing is an intake and cat-back exhaust. yes, i know the cat is the biggest restrictor on my truck but then i have to put a fingerstick on the computer to keep it from throwing codes. i am not gonna fuck with any of that shit since i've never had a vehicle that had any sort of warranty, much less one with 100k, and i'm not about to fuck it up. and the only reason i'm doing an intake is for the louder turbo whistle since the stock intake flows just as good as the aftermarkets. yeah, yeah, call me a ricer, but that shit sounds bad ass. shevais, the guy from billetbadges said he couldn't do it because it would be so small and couldn't put that much detail in it since it is only 1.5 inches tall. he did send me a pic of a hitch cover that he made for a f/f. ill post it as soon as tww allows me to upload pics.[Edited on February 10, 2007 at 11:40 AM. 1/22/2007 9:42:24 AM
cool, let me know about the hitch cover cuz that shit would be cool... what kind of exhaust are you going with, I've been looking at the MBRP 4" stainless cat backhaven't made up my mind on the intake yet, but will soon

1/22/2007 1:14:49 PM
shevais- Not calling BS on you, but you guys may want to get that F450 looked at. 300 gallons of water @ 8lbs/gallon= 2,400 lbsShouldn't make that much of a difference imo.underpsi- wheres the pics? [Edited on January 22, 2007 at 2:34 PM. Reason : pics]

you're not kidding me, the damn thing squats when it's just the load on board, before any trailer is hooked up. I'm going to check the weight on the trailers when I get back to work and do some math, but I know we already had to adjust some of the equipment on one of the trailers and move it to the other one. because the trailer was overweight, we're carrying some heavy crap on there. I think we were close to exceeding the GVWR but I'm not 100% sure.
1/22/2007 2:49:02 PM
1/22/2007 5:59:47 PM
carrying water in an unbaffled tank is hard on a truck too, we have a 500gal hydroseeder and the sloshing will get to you
1/22/2007 6:02:51 PM
^our tanks on both trucks in question are baffled. They also have utility bodies on them and pumps. I don't know the exact weight of either, but it's something I'm looking at. Neither are as bad as the 550 crew cab with the rescue body on them. both that we have are absolute slugs^^I've looked at the silverline, but the borla and gibson are cost prohibitive! I think I could put it on myself, but I just have to order it. I've been looking at AEM as well, but not in a while. you'll also want at least 265's on that thing ASAP as the 245's look like dammit on there
1/22/2007 7:24:41 PM
285's ftw.
1/22/2007 7:38:04 PM
yeah but I don't want to do any trimming, and I've heard some people have to trim and some don't. If everything goes right though I'll move up to a 18" wheel and go a little bit wider than stock to be able to fit something that looks a bit better and fills out the wheel well.
1/23/2007 9:05:15 AM
yeah, one of the first things i want to do is replace the wheels since i ordered mine with the cheap chrome steelies. couldn't see paying an extra $900 for the alum. wheels when i'm going to upgrade anyway. i'm looking at 18's and a 285/65/18 tire. the only trimming i would think needs to be done is on the airdam, which if you do it right and take your time, it'll look stock anyways.
1/23/2007 10:21:07 AM
hey it's not my decision! I've got a #2 to answer to.... as she put it... a $40K truck should do what it needs to without anything else..... you know that female logic! that's the same size a lot of the guys on dieselplace are running and it looks goooooood
1/23/2007 11:55:58 AM
my 03 2500hd has 285/75/16 dueller revos, I turned the torsion bar adjustment bolts two times each. The only time they rub is backing at full lock and then only occasionally, definately worth the upgrade. no trimming
1/23/2007 12:06:18 PM
i just traded a set of 285/75/16 BFG MT the other night
1/23/2007 12:09:54 PM
^^ how far is your speedo off? or did you get it reprogrammed?
1/23/2007 1:10:25 PM
Tuite has 285's on his 05 2500HD 6.0L/5 speed, fit and look nice. i think he took the bars up a little, but not much.
1/23/2007 4:04:53 PM
its off almost 10mph above 70. I'm looking in to getting a wait4me tune to correct it. Basically I just go the speed limit now instead of 9 over.
1/23/2007 4:32:14 PM
i'm surprised it's that far off. i had heard that gm has the speedo +2mph off when programmed for the stock 245's. this way when the odo. shows 100k, the truck'll actually have only ~90k IIRC. i'm pretty sure the dealer will flash it for you for the new tire size.
1/24/2007 8:08:02 AM
yeah, i flashed a few when i worked at thompson.
1/24/2007 4:08:32 PM
Alright, I finally took some pictures of the truck. I picked it up on Jan. 24. I have put 800 miles on it so far. The only thing I've done to it so far is replace most of the bulbs with LEDs, replaced the 3rd brake light with an OEM copy w/ LEDs, and I completed the All Lights On mod today. Before the Lowbeams and Foglights would cut off when the Highbeams were turned on. Now all lights stay on for a total cost of 70 cents for 2 diodes. Only dumbasses who aren't electronically inclined pay $150 for the Lightbox to do this same mod. I ordered a Cam-Locker Low Profile toolbox and should be here in a week or so. Also ordered some OEM copy (they look stock just like the third brake light) taillights that are loaded with LEDs. Once I get the truck broke in good, I'll add intake and exhaust, bigger whees/tires, boost and EGT gauges, Bilstein shocks, and a Cognito leveling kit.I did take all the emblems off except one.Yeah, it's a Longbed.Line-X with UV coating. Notice the extra gloss. They guarantee it not to fade.LEDs in the roof marker lamps and corner lampsAlready added the Dually LED LightbarHere's how to do the All Light On mod.And here's the outcome from the All Light On mod.[Edited on February 21, 2007 at 7:18 AM.
