well, dan, i guess you really know who your friends are. i know if i worked at a tranny shop and had a bud who needed some work done, i'd tell him to drop it off and i'd tinker with it in spare time just for experience. but that's just me.

i dont really fuck with the transmissions! im more general repair, so far thats lots of electrical (modern transmissions have a LOT of electrical shit), a little trans R&R here and there, and other regular repairs. no one on here wants me rebuilding a transmission for them, not right now. it would be like me trying to write a book of poetry and fancy philosophical essays... you can imagine how that would come out as bad as my grammar and spelling is.

New game plans so far...I got the tranny today, and it is BEEF. I mean, this thing is one and a half times the size of the NV4500. I can lift an NV4500 myself. The Eaton? FUCK NAW. Bitch must weigh 300+ lbs.Took both of us to load it into the truck, and there it still sits. And it will stay there until next weekend, as I can't unload the motherfucker myself. Not without risking hernias/back injury/etc.I'm seriously thinking about getting the gearbox section off of an NP203 case and figuring out a way to install it backwards on the FS5205A. I think it would be a great combination for an overdrive.

So I took the top off ye olde gearbox, and everything looks pretty good. Needs a good cleanup and everything should be fine...I think. What was the problem? The input shaft bearing was TRASHED. Brand new transmission, and the input pilot rollers and torrington bearing are in fine shape. But the main input shaft bearing cage and rollers were simply trashed. I don't know why they are, but DAMN. They are. Pretty wild. I'm thinking that the preload was set incorrectly or something or there was interference between the cage and the front snout.Big deal here is, new bearing and race, though I will be pulling the rear mainshaft bearing to be sure.
