This is taking longer to "Check file CRC" that it took to download. Is this normal?

my games run slower in vista
1/21/2007 7:26:48 PM
I just installed Vista on my laptop (dual booting with XP Pro). It's slick
1/22/2007 2:48:00 AM
the only thing that would make me go to vista before september is if i fell in love with the sideshow
1/22/2007 4:10:28 AM
CSC has it, too
1/22/2007 10:21:02 PM
1) what driver support like at this point? printers, networking devices, sound/video cards, chipsets etc? whats the use of installing it if the those things arent in line?2) what antivirus runs on vista currently?
1/22/2007 10:58:05 PM
^driver support is okay.....printer is no a go for me, but all my Nvidia drivers are taken care of. I have found that most things already have a beta Vista driver, so not a huge problem, but still kind of a pain.
1/22/2007 11:06:35 PM
Symantec AV has a Vista version. I don't think ITD has posted it yet though.
1/22/2007 11:46:23 PM
I stand corrected, http://www.ncsu.edu/it/antivirus/install/SAV10-Installation.html
1/22/2007 11:48:20 PM
nice, they [ncsu] finally released SAV10 oh and i just noticed it doesnt look like they streamlined the installation for vista at all. i was hoping you could set all the install options, walk away, and come back in 30-45 to an installed os (ala sysprep). looks like it still halts during the process and waits for user input
1/23/2007 12:18:00 AM
how long before we can get a copy through the bookstore?
1/23/2007 6:56:23 AM
The SAV10 installer you just linked will not work with Vista. Please see my post in the other thread for more info./message_topic.aspx?topic=447211

1/23/2007 3:44:37 PM
well that's just f'n queer
1/23/2007 5:59:21 PM
^^ Ont he antivirus site they have links for both x86 and x64 vista
1/24/2007 11:32:09 AM
^ i believe they were referring to buying a copy of Windows Vista, not the antivirus software.
1/24/2007 12:47:07 PM
posting from vistaanyone know of ati radeon mobility 9200 drivers to get aero to work, I've got Vista Basic theme running I'd like 3d transitions and transparency
1/25/2007 5:39:45 AM
ati has a set of catalyst drivers that are supposedly compatible

1/26/2007 1:38:04 PM
^ha. 256? My system idles at 500+.
1/26/2007 1:54:57 PM

1/26/2007 7:29:56 PM

1/26/2007 9:20:07 PM
good luck watching an hd xvid rip in vista
1/26/2007 10:14:26 PM
opinions?
1/29/2007 3:30:32 PM
I got the downloader EXE for the DVD ISO off of MSDNAA while I was on my laptop. I realized I had more space on my desktop so I moved the file over there and when I go to actually try to download the ISO I get this error message:An error has occured The delivery client has encountered an error and is unable to continue. Please review the error and try again. Error Code: SDC00200 An error has occured, please ensure that enough disk space is present to complete the unpacking process and the files don't already exist in the destination folder. If errors still occur contact support through the ELMS system I have plenty of space on my desktop so it's not a space issue. Could it be some kind of problem related to me downloading the installer onto my laptop then moving it onto my desktop?
1/29/2007 3:33:28 PM
^ shouldn't be. I've moved those downloader files from MSDNAA from one computer to another before and its never been a problem. By default, it tries to download to c:/temp or something though, so maybe go look and make sure theres nothing in there.
1/29/2007 4:45:24 PM
^Nope. I made a brand new "Vista" folder and pointed it there just in case, still get the same error.
1/29/2007 5:20:21 PM
it's a big piece of crap.
1/29/2007 5:26:48 PM
Does anyone know if current built-in Intel graphics will handle aero?
1/29/2007 7:49:40 PM
Aero ran for me on an Intel 950 gfx chip.
1/29/2007 11:16:15 PM
Anyway I can snag this through the MSDNAA thing if im not in an ECE class?Im taking a CSC class that counts for anything, and that class is absolutely demanding bleeding edge software

Perhaps you haven't read the 15 reasons to switch to Vista:http://tech.msn.com/microsoft/article.aspx?cp-documentid=2664459>1=90131. It's the Interface, StupidWindow borders are never a good reason to switch. I also like how this section brags about this version having the closest interface to a Mac than any other prior version of Windows.2. Flip Over Windows Flip 3DWait, wasn't interface #1?3. Live ThumbnailsWait, wasn't interface #1?4. Boost Performance With ReadyBoostMeh, I'd rather keep as much RAM available for the task I'm currently doing (mostly games) that to have RAM allocated for things I might decide to do.5. Cool Performance ToolsFirst thought. Oh, so you mean the task manager? Then I saw how they upgraded to include presenting warnings and errors in the event log in a calendar format.6. Better SecurityTwo-way firewall sounds good. Of course Vista will be more secure than product sets that will not have support in the future. Probably the only real reason to upgrade.7. Find Anything Fast With SearchI really can't speak much to this. I haven't really needed to search for files on my Vista system yet.8. Nifty Software GadgetsThey finally incorporated some Stardock/desktopX stuff in Windows. Except you have to put them in the upper right corner as opposed to anywhere you want to.9. Better Wireless Networking10. Map Your Network11. Better Graphics With Windows Photo Gallery12. Become a Director With Windows Movie Maker13. Better Notebook Support14. File Sharing and Syncing15. Protect Your Kids With Parental Controls---------------------------They missed a good one... If you need to provide a disk controller during Windows setup you are not forced into using a floppy drive.[Edited on January 30, 2007 at 9:40 AM. Reason : other left]

Anybody know what that error I keep getting is?
1/30/2007 11:06:20 AM

1/30/2007 11:50:46 AM
nobody else saw the daily show with gates? lol hilarious at the end
1/30/2007 12:11:29 PM
who the fuck cares.... I don't....
1/30/2007 4:05:59 PM
^^ i watched it but missed the end. what happened? all i saw was stewart saying "he's not allowed to walk away" or something like that
1/30/2007 4:42:32 PM
yah that was it - when he walked out all anxious and stuff lol
1/30/2007 6:29:19 PM
that daily show was hilarious, the presidential stuff at the beginning was the best part i think
1/30/2007 10:08:10 PM
anybody bought it yet? i keep having urges to get it, but i keep having to tell myself to wait
1/31/2007 11:17:17 AM
any small part of me interested in using it died when i heard how pointless it was for anything other than MS products and it's spectacularly awful "license chain" crap...
1/31/2007 11:41:29 AM
On a side note, I really like Office 2007's new interface.
1/31/2007 5:28:37 PM
STUPID NVIDIA DRIVERS STILL SUCK FOR VISTA - can't rotate my displays and shitty SLI support, etc.
2/3/2007 12:39:11 PM
bous: agreed. nvidia really dropped the ball on this one. seriously though, Vista has been completed for months now and they still don't have what you would consider a "final" driver out. sad really. i spent over $400 on this Geforce 8800 and i can't even play games in Vista yet.
