I'm not normally, but my thought in the case of a snubby is that they're hard enough to aim as it is, and I can draw and point at the extremely short ranges that you'd be using that kind of gun.

They've been known to do just that (police reports), but that's not really a good reason to get them.

^
Lasers aren't a substitute for knowing how to aim, though. Learn to point-shoot well, and lasers can help, but trying to aim by hunting the dot around is a terrible habit.

i've got a laser/light that will fit on all of my pistols that have the universal rail, though i dont ever really use it

i can get tight 2"-3" groups at 25 yards with just sights but someone is gonna be a little more hesitant if they look down and see a red dot shining on them

you don't point a gun at someone long enough for them to have time to look down and see a dot on them. you point it and start squeezing that trigger. if you have to point a gun at somebody you have to use it.

Some of us prefer the option of telling someone to fuck off (and then actually giving a chance to do so). If only because getting blood out of carpet is a royal pain in the ass.

let alone, however justified i am in shooting someone for self defense, its not the preferred option, as its going to cost you tens of thousands of dollars of legal fees, let alone potential costs of counter sues by the "victim"'s family

no no no no no...you should be ready to use it, but by no means do you "have to use it"

1) no one in the 'shooting people' community uses lasers, that's b-movie bullshit.

2) for a gun in the 300-400 price range, Rock Island Armory makes an awesome 1911 Tactical. I picked one up about 3 weeks ago and have loved it ever since. The guy who sold it to me works for a gun shop in Fayetteville and was formerly a member of the 'shooting people' community, he said it was a great deal.

3) But I also own an XD and have never had any trouble with it.

let me rephrase that. If I point a gun at somebody, I'm going to use it. the way I see it, is that if you don't You're inviting more trouble than you would if you did. But maybe my experiences cloud my thinking on this.

"One strike and you're out"—draw a bead, THEN give warning, and if the person does anything other than run away or play dead, open fire. Simple enough. Obviously the rules are different for home defense and street defense, though.

^^
Lasers are useful within certain circumstances (mainly low-light), BUT it takes a lot of practice to actually get good with them.

you'd be amazed at how somebody's mentality does a complete 180 when they see a red dot on their chest

Absolutely, I just see it as speeding up my point shoot ability, not supplimenting it, not to mention being cheaper to practice with (in the long run) at the house.

As someone on the peripherals of the 'shooting people' community, I'd have to disagree.

Outstanding.

That reminds me, I need to get a clamp mount so I can stick a flashlight on my housecannon.

^^^

If by housecannon you mean shotgun, skip anything Lyman/ATI/Tacstar. Most clamp mounts for shotguns suck ass. However, if you dont mind friction tape under the clamp, it will hold for all but the most intensive range trips. I have a Tacstar clamp laying around for a Minimag, if you want it. Took it off my shotgun since I put too many rounds downrange for the clamp to stay still.

It's this one:

I should also add that putting an LED conversion into the Minimag makes it ALMOST a passable tac light for home use.

I don't walk around looking at my own chest, so I'd probably never notice the red dot

until my gf's cat jumps up to try to catch it.

Lights and CCOs, look I'm not gonna debate this, but the big boys don't use lasers and I'm not on the 'peripherals' of the community.

Beg to differ.

Much like porn, if it can be thought of, it has likely been achieved.
