hmmm... I might consider doing this.
1/8/2007 8:44:54 PM
Ignignot: No. We have an idea now and we're not moving until we come up with a rad name. Who's got a rad name?Cybernetic Ghost: Giglioranasoniphonicans!Wisdom Cube: Super Fun.. Super Awesome Villains Forever!Cybernetic Ghost: Wait... Um... Giglioranananomicons!Err: Bom Scott!Major Shake: No... That sucks.Err: Baynard Thomas!Major Shake: The Evil Gang of Eleven!Wisdom Cube: Super Awesome Villains Forever! That's mine, hey!Mothmonsterman: How about The Midnighters?Major Shake: The Illin... The Illin Villains!Mothmonsterman: You know... we're out at night...Ol' Drippy: How about Got Villains?Mothmonsterman: Nasty Midnighters!Rabbot and Cybernetic Ghost: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, SundayIgnignot: Typical robots.Err: I kinda like that name. It's identifiable. But more seriously, this strikes me as a good idea, as I am always in favor of more dialogue. But since I no longer live in raleigh... are there any sort of absentee ballots?
1/8/2007 9:56:36 PM
Well, clearly, I regret even suggesting the idea. So far there's all of 1 and 1/2 people who expressed interest.Anyone on the Soap Box who ever feels like getting drunk, however, should drop me a line.
1/9/2007 3:52:55 AM
I'd hang out with you Grumpy. You are certainly one of the more sane voices in teh SB.
1/9/2007 4:01:32 AM
^^WTF, B?I'm totally stoked for this!Let's do it!!!Shit, I'll pay!
1/9/2007 8:24:44 AM
This is an interesting thread.
1/9/2007 9:42:07 AM
I'm down.Of course, there isn't a whole hell of a lot left to argue about now.
1/9/2007 9:47:16 AM
If this was in Charlotte, I'd be there. But, I don't think I'll be in Raleigh in the near future.
1/9/2007 11:18:14 AM
I'll show up if I can. When/where?
1/9/2007 12:00:57 PM
if you guys can hold it in charlotte, ill come
1/9/2007 12:05:28 PM
I think more than 1.5 people said they'd come. There's more than that on this page alone. Most of you seem like pretty chill people.[Edited on January 9, 2007 at 1:17 PM. Reason : .]
1/9/2007 1:17:11 PM
It was hard to tell. There were a lot of "I'll come if...[some ridiculous or unhelpful condition]"But alright, now onto the question of when and where. On the matter of "where" I am open to suggestion or democratic process. Remember that there may be some poor blighter who wants to come that isn't 21 yet, and most of us are poor.As to "when," I was thinking towards the end of next week, maybe Thursday or Friday, perhaps around 8:00...give you time to get out of work, eat dinner elsewhere if you are so inclined, but early enough to allow for other activities afterwards (such as going home and posting on TWW).So, suggestions.

OMF RUCKUS
1/9/2007 1:54:18 PM
i'll try to make it to this
1/9/2007 2:01:41 PM
I didn't attend the last one of these, but I would be interested to show up for this one. Preferably at some place a little nicer than El Rodeo. It doesn't have to be fancy or anything, but large table conversations work better at a Ruby Tuesdays than Carolina Ale House.Either way I would probably be interested in some good conversation.
1/9/2007 3:41:41 PM
I'm partial to:Player's RetreatMitch'smaybe even Ruby Tuesday'sMojo's on Glenwood is good, but I go there too much alreadyWould I be ok bringing up Weber, because I'm bound to mention him at least 12 times.[Edited on January 9, 2007 at 5:55 PM. Reason : .]

thinking of foods places around hillsborough street makes me miss raleigh in general/sylvia's speciallysomeone needs to transcribe this if it happens or atleast show an agenda/minutes/notes on what was discussed
1/9/2007 6:04:08 PM
i suppose i'm downcuz i be ridin gold daytons
1/9/2007 6:17:41 PM
Hey, anyone remember me? I'm still in Raleigh, and I could use some good company and a good discussion on politics (and other issues too). I know it's been years since I last posted, but coming back to TWW and the Soapbox today, I noticed some of the old soapboxers are still here, and I want to meet them.By the way, I should let you guys know that my political views have changed drastically since I graduated. Back at NCSU I was a member of Campus Libertarians. Now I am a certifiable liberal. I believe in 50% income tax in exchange for socialized medicine instead of HMOs, government paid pensions instead of social security, public transportation that works instead of a car for every driver in the household, free college education paid for in full by the government instead of 5 figure student loans... I could go on, but I'm sure you get the idea. If anyone is wondering what made me change my mind so drastically, well, I graduated college and started living and working in the real world, where, as I discovered, conservative/libertarian politics are making the lives of most americans much worse than they could be.
1/9/2007 6:40:34 PM
mmmm yes, i would love to wait 1.5 years to get a diagnosis after finding a potentially cancerous lump in my body
1/9/2007 7:34:35 PM
i want to meet bridget and find out if she is fat, in my mind she looks fat
1/9/2007 7:44:33 PM
I'm totally fat.I used to be overweight, and that's when I met a lot of folks on TWW.But now I'm genuinely obese.People on here keep defending me and saying I'm just being too hard on myself. But they haven't seen me recently so they don't know what's going.I'm a hundred pounds overweight and probably about 50 percent body fat. Not only that, I'm still gaining--about ten pounds a month. I'm out of control.
1/9/2007 8:06:04 PM
blubber town
1/9/2007 8:19:11 PM
Won't you take me to....BLUBBA TOOOWN!
1/9/2007 8:29:44 PM
^didnt i see you last semester? i dont remember...its been awhile since i used to see you around a lot more.
1/9/2007 9:53:54 PM
1/9/2007 10:43:26 PM
^^ Well, we apparently agree on something else--I hope it's not a trend. I suggested Mitch's or Player's Retreat for "The Soap Box Summit II", too. I also suggested Hibernian or Ri Ra Napper Tandy's. If we go to Napper Tandy's, we could take over one of their partitioned sections.[Edited on January 9, 2007 at 11:07 PM. Reason : ^]
1/9/2007 11:07:11 PM
I've heard a couple of people mention Mitch's and Player's Retreat, both fine establishments, I'm just not sure how conducive they are to any sort of conversation.Neither of them are my bar of choice, but Katmandu doesn't have food and it's over-21 only, so...my vote, from the places I've seen suggested, is for Mitch's.I'd have to hear more about Napper Tandy's, partitioned sections would be nice.[Edited on January 9, 2007 at 11:10 PM. 1/9/2007 11:09:46 PM
^ Well, just for shits 'n' giggles, what is your bar of choice?
1/9/2007 11:14:13 PM
Context clues, man. Katmandu, west of campus on Hillsborough Street, almost never crowded, not especially expensive, never have any trouble getting a drink. But it used to be Mitch's, so that's a choice I can still respect.
1/9/2007 11:28:26 PM
^ They probably play that Bob Seger song a lot, too, huh?
1/10/2007 12:30:15 AM
No. If you play it, Thad the Manager will break your fingers.
1/10/2007 2:36:41 AM
^ Ain't nobody gonna break my fingers. Know that.
1/10/2007 3:56:09 AM
Beacuse he's tough, yo. ( )[Edited on January 10, 2007 at 4:16 AM. Reason : I had better spell this correctly before Webster jumps on that.]
1/10/2007 4:15:29 AM
I gotta know what Bob Seger song you guys are talking about.
1/10/2007 9:20:03 AM
1/10/2007 9:49:11 AM
Well it allows you less freedom as far as controlling the means of production and lording over your neighbor is concerned, I guess.
1/10/2007 10:39:25 AM
lol, it is interesting how different people see things. I say: You should be free to open up a shop and sell your products and services. You say: That's controlling the production means and controlling the poor people you dupe into purchasing your products and services.
1/10/2007 10:47:17 AM
You can see it either way. I'm not exactly a Communist, but I know that it's supposed to solve a problem that we can see as quite evident in our modern times.People who live in alienation -- everybody knows the people that live for 5PM, and for the weekend. The unfortunate thing is that these people don't really ever express their human nature. Sucks.
1/10/2007 10:50:40 AM
I see what you mean, but I tend to blame the people who don't exert the effort required to live up to their potential, rather than the company that helps put food on the table by offering them the opportunity to eek out a meager existence.I do see your point though, I think it kinda goes back to my original "It is interesting how people see things differently"
1/10/2007 10:57:08 AM
1/10/2007 11:02:50 AM
I imagine self-actualization is what he's talking about, but I could be wrong.
1/10/2007 11:04:20 AM
Yeah it is, and I don't really want to rewrite everything on alienation that's been written already. Go check out some Hegel, Marx, Feuerbach, etc if you want to know more about the subject or at least wiki the authors.

In the name of everything any and all of you people hold dear, the only discussion that actually needs to be happening in this threat revolves around:1) Place of meeting2) Time of meeting
1/10/2007 3:51:50 PM
I'd like to meet at Mitch's. As long as it's sometime in the evening, it shouldn't be a problem.
1/10/2007 4:03:04 PM
That's enough votes for Mitch's to satisfy my aribtrary satisfaction.Mitch's on Friday, Jan. 19, at 7:00. Does that posea substantial problem for anybody?
1/10/2007 4:11:15 PM
Cool, I like Mitch's and I haven't been there in ages. Just name the date and time and I'll be there
1/10/2007 4:16:22 PM
I'll be there!
