Actually, I was in rainforests in Central America and never had to wear bug spray and never got bitten.

OK its day 5 here at ASP and I have to say we are pretty happy. They did try to stick us in a room with double beds in Triangle, after 1 day (and some bitching on our part) we got moved to Tuba to a room with a king bed.

As far as tours, we did the BOB yesterday and had a blast, saw a stingray, nice grouper, big old barracuda, it was fun- downside was the ride from ASP... hour and a half. They make a dvd of every trip (included in tour price) but I havent watched it yet. Today we did the Catamaya trip on the big sailboat with the snorkeling and the lobster and steak lunch. It was pretty fun, not far from ASP either.

We don't think it was the water, it was the food we ate at one of the locations we went to. He's been on IVs for the past 12 hrs and I've been really sick too, but we caught it early enough w/me that I wasn't so dehydrated. At this point we're just worried about being well enough to get on a plane tomorrow

Pyscho, My wife and I stayed at Aventura spa in july as well. Small world. What days were you down there? I wore my state hat alot.

It was an amazing trip. We enjoyed Chiken Itza, however you spell it, the big myan ruins. Awesome trip, but the best part was the trip to it. You really get out away from the cities and see the country. It will REALLY make you appreciate your life, trust me. Xcaret is great too. You can spend a whole day there. We loved it. DId the cold underground river thing and then took a nap in hammocks overlooking the ocean. I would advise to skip the show at night. Its pretty long, but its all in spanish. It appears they take you through the different times in mexican history. Best I could gather. haha The shops at playa del carmen have some great deals and some really awesome painted martini glasses.. which my wife broke at the damn airport. Probably for the best, it was probably lead paint anyways.

Some other advise, tip. They say its covered, but its really not. And those dollars add up. I would spent probably 10-15 a day in tips..singles. They are very appreciated. If you tip well, they will serve you better and load up your drinks. Another piece of advice. Talk to the staff, and bartenders. They will tell you great stories, some take a bus for 3 hrs to get to work. I didnt believe it until we took the kitchen tour and we saw the buses. You will have an amazing time. We never felt unsafe. Everyone was just wonderful. Have a great time.

I came off the IV at 5am Sunday morning and despite being really really weak after not eating for 3 days I made it to the airport and onto the plane (spend some time in a wheelchair though) without passing out. Came close in Atlanta though, damn 3hr layover and a lot of walking was rough on me. I kept down a Krystal burger and made it back to RDU last night about midnight. Home never felt so good. Screw mexico.

eyedrb, we were down there from July 13-20. I don't remember what instrument our room was, but we had a view of Moondaca (sp?) restaurant. Pretty much in the middle of the resort. Here's some pictures of our room view and of where we went in general.

Sorry to hear that you got sick, I could imagine that really sucks. Me and my wife got lucky and didn't get anything too badly. Hope you get to feeling better soon!
