i hear i can suck up water or something in my axle breathers? this troo?? that lil mud adventure gonna matter
12/27/2006 7:06:17 PM
yep, it's true. dodge's come with breathers that are about frame height though, better than alot of stuff. you do have the rubber plug in the rear diff though which sucks for keeping water out.
12/27/2006 7:07:19 PM
I would recommend changin' yer axle lube...I fucked up my Trooper's diff bearings running in water and not changing it.
12/27/2006 7:10:42 PM
no need in changing if it looks like foamy chocolate milk, only if it looks like rusty water
12/27/2006 7:29:21 PM
btw, pretty sure i recognize where that is. better hope you don't get caught for trespassing, morissville police have impounded a couple of vehicles that i know of out there. progress energy doesn't fuck around with their land. it was a very well known place to ride a couple years ago, and they pretty much put it on lockdown.[Edited on December 27, 2006 at 8:18 PM. i was wondering when that shit would start up
12/27/2006 9:43:16 PM
you can go muddin down in the great dismal swamp on edge of my my grandpas land in va all you want, but if you get stuck you're fucked till mid-summer, i wouldn't even try takin the 8430 with duals on all four wheels this time of year to pull someone out

*sigh* i hate mud. i think if my bearings seize up while it's open ill put lower gears in so i can run bigger tires.thats the deepest i got into mud right there[Edited on December 28, 2006 at 9:33 AM. Reason : .]
12/28/2006 9:21:22 AM
it's not deep till you have water up to your seats in the cab
12/28/2006 10:30:28 AM
or dripping in by your rear view mirrorand its not even raining
12/28/2006 10:54:16 AM
wtf doesnt my brother's 4x4 XJ not have locking or limited slip diffs or something? That stupid truck is always getting stuck. It even burns a tire backing up my steep driveway. If my shitty 20 year old BMW has an LSD, why doesnt this truck? Is it a factory option or what? How much is a solution?
12/28/2006 11:00:42 AM
im assuming....some rams came with posi-traction. mine does well with open diffs. i think it's like 250 for lock-rite lockers or something.yeah.... so i dont think i got deep enough to warrant changing diff fluid. are we in agreement? [Edited on December 28, 2006 at 11:31 AM. Reason : .]

Oh yeah you did. Look how much splashing you did.My philosophy is that if it goes above the axle centerline, you need to at least look at it. Get you a syringe and a short length of vinyl tubing that'll fit on the end of it and draw you some oil out through the fill plug.Matter of fact, if you plan on doing this on a regular basis, it's a damn good idea to keep a syringe like that to sample yer oil every time you go swimming.Better to be sure than to be stupid.
12/28/2006 12:23:27 PM
i have long breather tubes coming off my diffs, tcase, and trans, and threaded fill and drain plugs on my diffs/tcase, i usually dont go more than two or three wheeling trips without changing the shit out completely. and only that long if it dosent get nasty looking. i check it before every trip.
12/28/2006 12:55:51 PM
where can i pickup one of these "seringes" im not a heroin addict
12/28/2006 3:17:23 PM

12/28/2006 8:39:18 PM

12/28/2006 10:15:50 PM
isn't uwharrie closed this time of year?
12/28/2006 10:48:52 PM
12/28/2006 10:50:39 PM
nah, it's open... go ahead kyle, you should check it out. joel said he'd go up there with you.
12/28/2006 10:55:55 PM
better carry some lard
12/28/2006 10:56:31 PM
uwharrie's closed. it closed the 14th.
12/28/2006 10:59:44 PM
i ignore laws when i take the truck out anyway. some "closing" wont stop me.
12/28/2006 11:05:55 PM
the bigass gates will, or maybe the hunters.....or the rangers.............what am i talking about. you should go now!!!!
12/28/2006 11:22:42 PM

I need to go do some wheeling, the last time I went didn't end so well.
12/31/2006 1:28:29 PM
i would say technically you won bc u have a female in that pic if your woman likes to wheel you win. how'd u get out by the way?
12/31/2006 3:18:33 PM
Yeah, she loves to wheel. I had to get pulled out, by a POS chezy no less.
12/31/2006 4:01:42 PM
good job on choosing the right line..
12/31/2006 5:08:06 PM
Yeah I admit it was a stupid line to take. But there was tall grass covering the rut and three chicks in the truck distracting me.
1/1/2007 12:38:54 AM
if there were 3 chix. i woulda gotten stuck on purpose.
1/1/2007 2:34:12 AM
i hope you at least fucked one of the sluts out there.
1/1/2007 10:20:24 AM

Are there any easy/moderate public trails near Raleigh? there's nothing in Wilmington except the sheriff-guarded plateau and the beach.
1/2/2007 12:24:42 AM
the closest thing is uwharrie national forest, which is a little more than an hour away just west of asheboro. as mentioned in this thread, there are some utility access trails, etc. just like there is anywhere else but they're obviously illegal.
1/2/2007 1:25:42 AM
I've hiked and biked most of the trails in Uhwarrie, if I go on that side, I want to try some of the trails that yota experimented the fj on. there are supposed to be some good rides out near asheville
1/2/2007 2:03:20 AM
yeah, there are a few good places near asheville. the most "well known" being the upper tellico ohv area. also some less known but more challenging private places and a couple of public but less challenging places.
1/2/2007 2:19:12 AM
tellico is the place I was talking about. it has trails through streams with 3 ft. walls.
1/2/2007 11:28:12 AM
it's not quite that extreme... in fact most of the water crossings there have bridges now. there is an optional line on the fain's ford exit that is a large rock face/wall, but that's it.there is some pretty challenging stuff elsewhere in the trail system though. upper 2 is "the" trail to hit there right now imo.
