rivers is the man

A couple of things.First of all that was totally blown coverage. They werent blitzing so theres NO excuse to get beat deep.Second of all that was a great read. The most overlooked route is usually the deep route because QB's are always looking for the safer underneath routes. The throw was good but nothing special. He wasnt under any pressure and he didnt really have to thread it or anything.Seattle has a porous defense and Rivers had a bad overall game. His team is good enough to keep them in the game if he can make a few big plays like that though. The key is he didnt have any turnovers and he kept them in position to win long enough to make the big play.He just needs to get back on track before the playoffs because its hard enough to win 3 straight games when you play well, its almost impossible when youre completing 33% of your passes.

16 @ATL W 10-3 4 7 32 57.1 21 1 0 108.3 1 0 0.0 0as an aside ... what a pro-qb rating system. 4-7 for an entire game shouldnt get you an almost 110 rating
12/24/2006 11:19:11 PM
that throw was perfect. michael vick would not have completed that pass
12/24/2006 11:21:27 PM
it was a perfect throw I agree ...but the point is, as an NFL quarter back you're expected to beable to make that pass perfect everytime.
12/24/2006 11:24:05 PM
no.. the point was:

That headline isn't even a joke, that really happened. Chargers center Nick Hardwick went into the shower, bent over, and Phil Rivers took off his shirt, sauntered over, eyeballed Hardwick's masculine hips, and stood behind him ... not to engage in the love that dare not speak its name, but rather to practice snapping the ball in rainy conditions.

Vick coulda made that throw. He might not make it as high of a percentage as Rivers does...Vick has a lot stronger arm than Rivers though. You notice Rivers is pretty scared to throw the deep ball. He thrives off timing routes and really shys away from anything too far down the field.Thats okay. Everyone has different styles. You have to rely on your strengths, hide your weaknesses, and modify your attack from week to week to keep defenses honest. You can sit here and say "vick couldnt have made that throw" after a perfectly thrown 10 yard out route just i can say "rivers couldnt have scrambled for that first down" after a breathtaking run.Its like saying "Jerome Bettis couldnt have dodged that cornerback" or "Barry Sanders couldnt have bulldozed that safety". "Deion Sanders couldnt have tackled that fullback" or "Roy Williams couldnt have defended that pass"Players have differnet strengths/weaknesses. Thats fine. Its overall production that counts. Rivers makes up for his lack of arm strength with his vision, accuracy, and poise. Vick makes up for his lack of accuracy with his speed, agility, and playmaking ability.
12/24/2006 11:42:31 PM
his lack of arm strength is over dramatized. and vick could make that thrown given 1-5 chances
12/24/2006 11:46:58 PM
no, its really not.Rivers has a weak arm and defensive coordinators are becoming attentive to that. They arent having to defend the entire field and thats why theyve been shutting down some of his bread & butter routes the past few weeks. His super low yardage totals are a reflection of his inability to make all of the throws consistently right now.His percentage has been suffering a lot now that he cant just check off as frequently. You take LDT out of that offense and they've been a total disaster the past few weeks.Luckily, LDT can keep them honest and Rivers is a good enough game manager that they are still playing winning football. But lets not pretend that Rivers is Tom Brady or Peyton Manning right now by any stretch of the imagination.

That announcer is one of the greats of our time. He does ncaa tourney as well and all of his games seem to have finishes greater than or equall to tonight's. Don't diss him.

this page 2 exemplifies why rallyd *thinks* he knows everything in the worldbut doesn't

not everything but i clearly know sports.Rivers is struggling badly. But he's a smart guy and he's not panicking.I still think he's going to be a liability in the playoffs because rookies just dont usually do well their first time around. Roethlisberger got exposed the same way two years ago.
12/25/2006 1:46:03 AM
well they proved they can pull out a shit game with their qb struggling, pretty much have nothing else to prove that they are winning the superbowl
12/25/2006 2:28:31 AM
i mean the seahawks are in the midst of a nice losing streak so lets not start sucking each others dicks yet.

lt and rivers didnt have that great of a game. sure LT has 100+yds but no td's which he is usually money for atleast 2 or 3 of em. and Rivers, sure he had two td's, but only 10 completions isnt going to do you that great in the game. Even with the two most important offensive players in the game doing below avg, they still managed to beat a tough team. Also, i dont think teams are neccessarily understanding Rivers capabilities and forcing him to do bad. Rivers did start every game in college, you would think that teams would see the same thing by his forth year. I just beleive he is in a slump right now. A Rivers slump is equivalent to Eli's Best game though.

I certainly consider that pass to be a deep ball. Anything in the 20+ range is characterized as a deep pass. He rarely throws that pass and perhaps thats why it caught the defense so off guard.^ And i hate to tell you man, but he's been called LDT for a long time. This LT nonsense only started recently.
12/25/2006 8:26:18 PM
Only since they realized he is better than Lawrence Taylor ever was.

LaDanian Tomlinson >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Lawrence Taylor.

rallydurham is just a Rivers hater.
12/26/2006 10:05:44 AM
Rally, you're an idiot as usual. Rivers has been struggling because he doesn't have any recievers to throw to. Eric Parker is out, McCardell is banged up and lost a couple teeth last game, Malcom Floyd is on IR and they really don't have anybody else besides Vincent Jackson. VJ is good in deep routes, but he is terrible at getting open in short to intermediate routes. That leaves Gates and LT as the only recievers to go to, and they get double-teamed every play. It doesn't help that they have had to stack the line with extra tight ends in the shotgun because the line is struggling with pass protection. Once his recieving corps gets healthy, he'll be back ripping defenses apart. He absolutely needs a guy like Eric Parker though, who can actually get open and catch it underneath.
12/26/2006 2:54:17 PM
RIVERS LOOKED GOOD BUT IF I WERE THE CHARGERS I WOULD BE WORRIED ABOUT THE RAVENS....THAT DEFENSE IS ONLY GETTING BETTER AND AS LONG AS MCNAIR STAYS HEALTHY THEY ARE TOUGH TO BEAT
12/26/2006 3:23:57 PM
The thing about Rivers is that even when he has a "bad game", he doesn't let it get to him and still finds a way to win. He doesn't lose his head and start sucking worse, ala Jake Delhomme.
12/26/2006 5:11:09 PM
^ very true he has great composure and he doesnt force things and play his team out of the game like Delhomme did against Seattle last year.Im not a Rivers hater at all. He's just been pretty awful the past few weeks. He was very good at the beginning of the year.If they had an elite QB like Brady or Manning though they'd be 50/50 to win the Super Bowl instead of 20/80
12/26/2006 5:28:47 PM
He's been better than Brady this year.Much better in the clutch.
12/26/2006 5:58:35 PM
^^I still wouldn't say awful though. Rex Grossman has been awful. Jake Delhomme has been awful. Phil just hasn't had the completions he normally does, but still, he hasn't really had any turnovers or hurt his team. Seattle shut down LT too.

Being pissed on the sidelines is one thing, being pissed on the field and letting that influence your play is another.
12/28/2006 4:19:49 PM
Philip doesn't cuss. That time on the sideline when he ripped his helmet off and threw it he said "God Almighty." Seriously...the kid doesn't smoke, drink or cuss - it's a known fact. He just produces babies on a regular basis. Not to mention, it didn't "get to him." He was pissed because he didn't make the play. Next series though, he acted like it never happened, and that's what you want in a quarterback - someone who gets fiery when they fuck up, but can let amnesia kick in the next time the rock is in their hands. Rivers has that.
