Well, it's still unfortunate that even that small of a portion, be it whatever it is, is dying at the expense of your high GDP. I highly doubt a country succeeding economically does so w/o any sort of significant body of wage workers, be it in services or production. Choose to believe what you may, but be realistic. No nation is going to have 99% of their employed persons being middle class salaried workers or executives. Someone always has to do the dirty work.Maybe your entire working class is undocumented immigrants?I suddenly lost all my healthcare spending overnight and went from top 5 to #15, WTF?Ok, I've realized that for some reason I set my shit up to be too protectionist. I have a 2nd nation now. Let's see who does better.Bow to the Federation of Gedantzig[Edited on December 20, 2006 at 11:47 PM. Reason : .]

the "dirty" jobs dont have to be dirty. Working at Wal-Mart or Burker King fall under the dirty jobs imo. Those will never be high paying.
12/21/2006 1:12:21 AM
you still have to have a sizable "working class" to operate, there's no way around that.i never said anything about the wages they would be making, aside from calling them wage workers. oh well, i guess im going to get the "you stupid non-libertarians" treatment from you people regardless, a good reason why i post less and less here. this place is becoming obnoxious in regards to you people. we know nothing about the wages of the "working class", or its size, so to make an absolute claim about it is stupid.^yeah[Edited on December 21, 2006 at 1:40 AM. Oh, sorry, you are saying I misunderstood your statements and you were NOT saying working poor are a necessity? Good then.
12/21/2006 2:37:01 AM
Holy Christ, if you go back to my original post that spurred this stupid argument, you'll notice that I was joking in the thread anyhow.Keep in mind that these nations are caricatures of our true beliefs. Thus, you, PinkandBlack, set up a nation that ended up being FAR more protectionist than you intended. I ended up with zero income tax and no social spending whatsoever. Our nations are not what we intended them to be exactly, deal with it. Also, the argument that there always has to be someone there to do the dirty work is absolutely false. There CAN be a society where machines take care of all intensive labor and most simple service jobs. It isn't too much of a stretch that a fast-food restaurant could be run pretty much via automation, with highly skilled maintenance crews. You only think society has to have a low-wage group of people because there has always been a low-skilled group of people whom are a better option for jobs. If everyone got skilled, you'd see MUCH more substitution of capital for labor in those areas. That's what's going down in The Incorporated States of Brentoceania.(Finally, I got an issue that allows me to deal with public health of the poor. I surely hope this doesn't blow up in my face and I get a freaking welfare state out of a little social spending)[Edited on December 21, 2006 at 7:53 AM. Reason : .]

12/21/2006 12:21:45 PM
^As incorrect as saying it is determined by the most well off citizen. Crimony, there can be outliers. Also, Pink, I wasn't claiming you were rooted in protectionism, I was saying the opposite. Your nation looks extremely protectionist, especially considering your intentions, while mine looks like no one cares about the sick and poor, which certainly wasn't my intention.
12/21/2006 12:57:31 PM
anyone know what time they post the issues? i'm supposed to be getting 2 a day now and I've only gotten one so far.

12/22/2006 5:58:41 PM
I don't know if we get the same issues, but today I got one about rising divorce rates. My choices were:Make marriage illegalForce people to call their spouses "darling"Legalize gay marriageI was glad to have an opportunity to legalize gay marriage, but it was really strange that they added it to an issue about rising divorce rates. I don't think the spike in divorces is indicative of large numbers of gay people leaving their unloving straight marriages, lol
12/22/2006 6:23:59 PM
i dismissed that issue, it was poorly written

Today's question was horrible. It dealt with hiring a gov. spiritual advisor. I had 3 choices, Catholic, New Age, and Atheist. I couldn't choose to specifically NOT hire one, so I had to just dismiss the issue. Is that the only way I can separate church and state?Gedantzig is doing quite well, now. I'm much more pleased with that state. Luxaterra is still FUBAR'd.[Edited on December 23, 2006 at 2:44 PM. Reason : .]

See this sucks...you guys might already have gotten this question, it's the one about polygamy. There are three answers, one is to allow it, one is to make marriage between a man and a woman, and the other says that the government should allow it as well as gay marriage and ANY other kind too, "Let people marry their cats, if they want"So I'd really like to make gay marriage legal but I know if I accept that last position tomorrow my synopsis is going to say something like, "It's becoming more common for men to marry their gerbils..."
1/3/2007 9:39:23 AM
Just dismiss it. I was able to legalize gay marriage in a scenario about rising divorce rates. My choices were equally stupid there, but less so than the one's presented to you.

Stuff like today's rankings are really messed up.Of the top 4 nations for 'dumbest citizens' - 3 have either Powerhouse or Thriving economies, way higher than the average for the region. That just doesn't work. No economic powerhouse can be built with a large percentage of the population being idiots....no matter how smart the 'elite' are on the other end.

why not?isn't that what mindless consumerism is?
