for the people who dont like what Duke is doing, let me ask you this

if there are UNC students who happen to take a class at State...do you want them to have the opportunity to get NCSU student tickets to a NCSU/UNC bball game?

cause if you do you suck and you probably wear a dress margaret

I'm sure their scholarship covers student fees in addition to their tuition.

Unfortunately, you can't simply deny priveledges (a specific student fee, for example) to some students while granting them to others. Therefore, this is probably illegal.

Duke is pathetic.

It's one thing to "take classes" (i.e. being an inter-institutional student). It's another thing to be "a student".

the point is you can't FORCE people to be fans of a school, and you certainly can't discriminate student priveledges based on their support of the school's atheletic program

AT LEAST NOT IN AMERICA

i could care less about forcing people to be fans, but

you dont think fulltime NCSU students should have more priority at getting STUDENT TICKETS to NCSU HOMES GAMES than somebody who takes just one class at State?

although thats a different scenario than the Robertson Scholars, that was the perspective I was coming from

and technically are Robertson scholars exactly 50% Duke students and 50% UNC students? How are they legally classified on documents and transcripts?

they are fulltime students at duke half the year. they are no more unc students than they are duke students. they just happen to be fans of unc basketball.

well i hear your point of view more now that i understand a little more about the Robertson students, but I dont have a problem with it

somebody taking 16 hours at Duke should have dibs over somebody taking 8 hours at Duke and 8 hours at UNC

That's the agreement that both schools made so under that agreement they should have all the rights of a Duke student, including access to the same seats it basketball games. I don't see how anyone can legally say they shouldn't.

That said, they should get the shit hazed out of them every second they are that arena and for however long it takes to get back to their place...

they take ALL of their classes at duke one semester and ALL their classes at UNC the next. they LIVE at duke one semester and LIVE at unc the next. they effectively go to two schools.

I believe they have the option to do this, but I thought they were only required to take one semester at the other school.

I'd talk shit to them, because any visiting fan deserves some old-fashioned shittalking, but I wouldn't be mean or personal, and I certainly wouldn't recommend that the White Sox Organization only sell tickets to White Sox fans, because that'd be illegal.

here's another cunt hair to split.

Duke's a private university. They're not discriminating against race, gender, and whatever else falls under the equal opportunity laws, so what parts of the US constitution and NC constitution apply here?

yall seem like the same people who renamed the Red River Shootout the Red River Rivalry because Shootout might offend some people...oh no, some people getting a free education from 2 good schools cant get a free ticket to ONE BASKETBALL GAME...stop the presses...while you're at it, lets stop with rivalries...duke and unc should all sit in a circle and sing kumbaya and hold hands

well then they should change the wording of their agreement. They are violating the current one so they just should just say participants have full student privileges on both campuses, including access to athletic events... unless they root for UNC.

Problem solved. This whole thing is stupid. If the Dookies can't take a UNC fan in their student section then they are spoiled. Just haze the fucker the whole game and move on...

They're not discriminating. There is no worded contractual obligation to athletic events either, though previously it was assumed. Assuming their scholarship program is a legally binding agreement, however, I think the full time Duke students who are not allowed student priveledges because of a personal preference would have a winning court case. Duke University would have to prove that these UNC fans are causing substantial harm to others.. which is the only basis for an argument they have:

Quote :
"Duke's student senate voted last month to bar UNC Chapel Hill's Robertson scholars from Krzyzewskiville, saying their actions ruined the game for many Duke students last season."

Give me a break.

It's a legal gray area, sure, but I think the UNC kids would have a case since they are full time Duke students and went through the same processes as other Duke students.

seriously, the biggest whiners here are the duke students. as i said, i guarantee had duke won that game they wouldn't have had this vote. but they're little bitches. i dislike both schools equally, so i feel i'm being unbiased.

the appropriate response would be (as stated earlier in the thread) either hazing the shit out of them, or the duke robertsons doing the same thing at the dean dome...not pissing and moaning and banning.

the senate already voted...you cant "don't make a fucking policy" when the policy is already made

so in the present tense, the baby blue faggots need to grow a pair...did they get their scholarships just so they could sit in the student section of a duke/unc bball game at duke?
