Yeah, ROY is going to be tight this year. If Colston hadn't gotten hurt, it'd be a lock.[Edited on December 13, 2006 at 10:58 AM. Reason : 2, btw]

Is a returner a defensive position? especially when considering Punt defense/return? Or is he considered offense for the kick-off leading to an offensive series?Hester needs to be considered, he's done something no one has done before, rookie or not.
12/13/2006 11:01:18 AM
Good question. I consider it an offensive position if you are a returner.
12/13/2006 11:15:31 AM
yeah, Hester is a CB (he almost had an INT last week after his two kickoff returns), so I think Defensive ROY should go to Hester
12/13/2006 11:16:08 AM
Offensive ROY isn't that tight.Recall, Bush didn't do SHIT until a few weeks ago. Colston was a lock until his unfortunate injury. Neither of them can beat out Vince Young. Hester won't get consideration since he's a CB/kick returner, although he will most definitely make the Pro Bowl. Maurice Jones-Drew has a shot, but I think Young's the favorite. And ANYONE who argues that Ladainian Tomlinson will not be MVP is fucking retarded. He just broke the single-season TD record in 13 games.

P riv for defensive player of the year. THE BEST DEFENSE IS A GOOD OFFENSE
12/13/2006 11:44:57 AM
^^Brees has a shot at breaking the passing yards in a season record, which was set back in the 80sThe TD record was just re-set last season...if Brees does break that record then I think that he should win the MVP
12/13/2006 12:07:48 PM
unless Brees throws for 5 TDs and 500 yards in each of his last games its gotta go to LTregardless of Priest and Shaun Alex's setting of the TD record over the last few seasons, it took each of them all 17 weeks...LT did it in 13 (games)[Edited on December 13, 2006 at 12:17 PM. Reason : .]
12/13/2006 12:17:44 PM
LT is about to blow that record wide open.
12/13/2006 12:55:15 PM
So make him Offensive Player of the Year; we've seen them plug in Michael Turner and even Jesse fucking Chatman and still have success running the ball.Sub out Brees and put in Jamie Martin and the Saints' offense goes to complete shit.San Diego without LDT is a fringe playoff team. The Saints without Drew Brees are fighting for the rights to draft Brady Quinn.[Edited on December 13, 2006 at 3:00 PM. Reason : o]

comparing back up running backs to a back up quarterback is fucking retarded.
12/13/2006 3:33:15 PM
But still, it's Jamie Martin. I understand about how you have to install different stuff for the new guy and make sure that every playcall in there is tailored to his skillset, and you don't have to do that for running backs.... but San Diego isn't 11-2 solely because of LDT. They've had some huge margins of victory because of him, and he's certainly the best RB of this generation, but the Saints wouldn't be anywhere NEAR as good as they are with anyone not named Drew Brees running the QB position for them. I like to look at the changes made by their surrounding teams:New Orleans: Lost Bentley and Howard, traded Stallworth, Mayberry retired, linebackers/o-line overhauled, Jason Craft NOT cut; added Bush and Colston, traded for H. Thomas, added Brees.San Diego: Lost Brees, Foley shot; traded Davis to promote Florence to FT starter, moved Rivers to starting QB, vastly improved oline, emergence of Castillo/Merriman/Phillips as defensive stars.I'm aware that I didn't include every single transaction, but the Chargers have largely kept the same guys around. Brees went from question mark (shoulder) to leading passer in the NFL; not to mention that he has to do it all with dozens of new teammates. LDT isn't up against that.Tomlinson for Offensive Player of the Year, Brees for Most Valuable.[Edited on December 13, 2006 at 6:20 PM. Reason : ~ ]

Brees has certainly had an amazing year, but the Saints also brought in Bush and Colston
12/13/2006 7:12:53 PM
I don't see why people should get penalized in voting because they have good backups, this seems retarded to me.
12/13/2006 7:39:12 PM
Because it makes more absolute their value...? There's a big difference from having a potential starter as your backup vs. having a "who-what-when?" backing up your top guy.The root word of "valuable" is "value." This should bring my entire point together. If not then it's not worth my further repeating.
12/14/2006 3:13:22 PM
So, you're saying that if the saints had a smart organization, and had a pretty good backup (Shaub, Garcia, etc.) ready in case Brees was to get injured, it should actually hurt him in MVP voting?
12/14/2006 3:39:12 PM
Yup, because part of value is the absence thereof when the commodity itself is lost. If I lose a CTA pass with $2 on it, no big deal -- now imagine I lose one with $92 on it.
