theres a bit of a difference between putting up an xmas tree and having the 10 commandments or something in the courthouse. 1) it is relatively secularized at this point2) a huge majority of people celebrate christmas, religious or notobviously majority-wins doesnt make sense in all cases (see above), but it is fucking decorations.
12/12/2006 2:27:20 PM
not to mention, no one asked the airport to take down the christmas trees.

So the name of this fine fucking holiday is misleading. What's your point?Martin Luther King, Jr. Day...it must be religious![Edited on December 12, 2006 at 2:46 PM. Reason : MERRY CHRISTMAS!]
12/12/2006 2:45:19 PM
it's a religious holiday. it's a celebration of the birth of christ.anyhow. that is fairly irrelevant. obviously the airport thought that the "holiday trees" (as they apparently referred to them) were religious enough to take them down when there was threat that someone would sue if they didn't put up a menorah.
12/12/2006 2:48:09 PM
^It's a celebration of our ability to be excessive. Traditions include shopping, eating, boozing, sports, wasting electricity on garrish light displays, giving gifts, singing, spending time with friends and family, and if you're really lucky, skipping town to the Caribbean.
12/12/2006 3:03:39 PM
well regardless of how some people celebrate the holiday, it is a religious holiday for some.^and so how were they wrong to take the trees down then?[Edited on December 12, 2006 at 3:07 PM. Reason : .]
12/12/2006 3:06:57 PM
^Because the Grinch idea kicks more ass than money.
12/12/2006 3:14:16 PM
how is the jewish guy a grinch again?
12/12/2006 3:15:50 PM
In any event, the trees are going back up.http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2003473318_seatactrees12m.html
12/12/2006 3:20:02 PM
Christmas literally means Christ Mass. Both of which are religious terms.but I fail to understand the hoopla over this fucking tree. Just put up the menorah and quit being bitches on both sides.
12/12/2006 3:24:17 PM
AN EIGHT-FOOT-TALL MENORAH?!?!?(I retract my Grinch statement. Rabbi Bogomilsky is a class-act.)[Edited on December 12, 2006 at 3:28 PM. Reason : sss]
12/12/2006 3:27:05 PM
the christmas tree is far taller than eight feet.note their use of a crane to decorate it.[Edited on December 12, 2006 at 3:29 PM. Reason : .]
12/12/2006 3:28:39 PM
So what? Menorahs are not eight-feet-tall.
12/12/2006 3:29:25 PM
obviously this one is.and so is this one:[Edited on December 12, 2006 at 3:31 PM. Reason : .]
12/12/2006 3:29:44 PM
12/12/2006 3:32:20 PM
so what's your point again?
12/12/2006 3:33:26 PM
If they want to secularize their holiday and open it up to everyone, that's great. But until then, a giant menorah is just a tacky way of saying, "We're the chosen ones! And you're not. Look what we survived; look how long the oil lasted! It's because we're chosen, you know...better stock and all. Jump through some hoops, and maybe we'll let you in our club. Maybe."A big ass Christmas tree, on the other hand, says, "Hey, everybody, let's get drunk and rock around the Christmas tree. You don't have money for presents? No problem--get a credit card! No credit? Ah, fuck it, get trashed and watch football while the kids catch an animated Rudolph conquering his self-esteem issues..."Why do Jews want the freaking menorah up in the first place? So they can feel included in the holiday season while excluding others from theirs? That's bullshit.
12/12/2006 3:47:09 PM
the airport staff were the ones who decided to take down the christmas tree not the jewish man.and your arguing that christmas is not relgious is ridiculous.
12/12/2006 3:49:09 PM
If they put up a giant, fake manger with some woman's vagina ripped open to her anus and a bunch of randoms standing around adoring a fucking baby, then I'd see the display as religious. But a Christmas tree is not a symbol of the religious Christmas. It's a symbol of the cheerfully secular holiday, Christmas.I'm not Christian, and I celebrate Christmas like a mother fucker.SANTA 4 LIFE!
12/12/2006 4:09:13 PM
^^ why do you keep harping on this. taking something down willingly and doing so AFTER being threatened by a potential lawsuit are pretty different things.
12/12/2006 4:21:38 PM
the jewish man did not sue to take the tree down. he sued to put the menorah up (as they had verbally agreed to do in november)
12/12/2006 4:25:42 PM
Bridget hit it on the head.If anything the menorah should be kept down because its a symbol of racism. I don't really care if that symbol happens to be a religious symbol as well.[Edited on December 12, 2006 at 4:28 PM. Reason : .]
12/12/2006 4:26:52 PM
^^ ...fine, but candles are G-A-Y[Edited on December 12, 2006 at 4:34 PM. Reason : which is also why kwanza sucks too]
12/12/2006 4:34:15 PM
(christmas trees used to have candles on them)
12/12/2006 4:36:06 PM
when it was gay. now we've really stripped the "meaning" out of it.[Edited on December 12, 2006 at 4:51 PM. Reason : like a west virginy mountain]
12/12/2006 4:51:44 PM
12/12/2006 6:26:33 PM
^I've heard many people say that.If people observe it, it's a holiday. Otherwise, Veteran's Day isn't a real holiday and neither is Labor Day. And neither are a whole ton of other holidays.
12/12/2006 8:38:16 PM
12/12/2006 10:42:10 PM
Honestly who cares what Jews decide to observe or not to observe in their perverse religion?

I guess you and Quinn have fun talking about me. I'm flattered.

?Is this one of those "I'm McDanger and people care what I post" delusions you have?Because I was hoping you could keep that to your one thread: /message_topic.aspx?topic=447788
12/13/2006 11:38:23 AM
Nah it's just funny you and your boyfriend say the same things about me. It's cute. Anyway, have a good day, I'm not going to let the Jews ruin this thread also
