this show will not work for one reason...there is no such thing as a funny conservative comic. you have to have a somewhat well-known comic to create a satire TV show.
11/26/2006 6:15:29 PM
That's what I'm thinking. I'm hard pressed to think of any consistently funny conservative writer or TV personality. It will likely come off as angry, self-righteousness and persecution complex all the time.

hi excoriator
11/26/2006 6:27:52 PM
The only good conservative comedy program is South Park
11/26/2006 6:30:20 PM
That doesn't really count. They're definately more libertarian than anything else. They go after the left a bit more than almost anyone else, but they're definately not conservative. Now yes, they have called themselves republicans at times but I think this Matt Stone quote sums them up better than a party label:"I hate conservatives, but I really fucking hate liberals."[Edited on November 26, 2006 at 6:34 PM. Matt Stone and Trey Parker really do count though. They have a conservative bend, just not on social issues. Also, I know a lot of people will disagree, but Ron White is damn funny.Where is Dennis Leary on politics? He seems like he might be conservative, but I could be absolutely wrong on that.
11/26/2006 6:57:35 PM
They're not conservative at all though. Matt Stone is a libertarian, Trey Parker is a registered republican but says he hates conservatives. The only conservative bend they have is where libertarianism and conservatism overlap, but that's like saying a communist who doesn't like abortion is a conservative.[Edited on November 26, 2006 at 7:08 PM. 11/26/2006 7:08:01 PM
They are both classical liberals, which is a damn sight closer to conservatism than liberalism. You're confusing social conservative with conservative in general. I guess I should have been more clear. These terms overlap a good deal. Sure, there are differences, but this is what Matt Stone is. Trey Parker isn't far behind.http://animatedtv.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ/Ya&sdn=animatedtv&cdn=entertainment&tm=5&gps=164_8_905_463&f=10&su=p445.92.150.ip_&tt=14&bt=0&bts=0&zu=http%3A//www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0%2C9171%2C1169882%2C00.htmlHere's an interview with them.

southpark leans conservative comparably to the way that TDS leans liberal
11/26/2006 8:45:34 PM
I don't really think South Park is Conservative at all.
11/26/2006 9:28:30 PM
i would agree with each of the last three posts
11/26/2006 9:49:58 PM
are we seriously having a fucking debate over south park.I cant think of any show which strays farther from conservative values than south park and for that matter that strays farther from the majority of values held by Americans today that come from any sane political background.having saddam fucking satan in the ass and 8 year olds saying cunt and ass licker on a regular basis is not something held dear by the majority of adults in america. They have an episode about masturabating a dog for fuck sake. They are extremely nihilstic and are neither liberal, conservative nor libertarian (unless you define libertarianism as being completely devoid of morals and rational thought). To think south park has a "right-bend" says to me you have a hole in your head. so maybe this new fox show is going to have some dude with a trucker hat saying mexicans are stupid cunts while jacking off to pictures of hitler and dead jews. If this is the case it will be the liberalist (in the broad sense on the word) fucking show in the history of tv and will last 1 minute before its cut off the air after parents call up and complain.

Dental, I think you're taking South Park a little too seriously. The social commentary is in the details. Like the very recent one about atheism and the Nintendo Wii. Surely you didn't think the political commentary came from having the weird races of people, it came in their intolerance in one another based on their version of atheism, reflecting intolerance of religion.People who don't think the show bends libertarian in a lot of places are just upset because they like the show and don't like libertarians. Its ok, get over it. You can still laugh and disagree.
11/27/2006 7:16:54 AM
its pretty obvious the commentary is in the details.but that doesn't take away from the fact that they're nihilists and neither right nor left in the general sense of the termsand i love liberatarians[Edited on November 27, 2006 at 9:34 AM. Reason : !!]

I think the answer is obviously maybe.
11/27/2006 10:52:24 AM
no actually if it was obvious we would be sitting around in ropes on some mountain drinking wine and the majority of the world wouldnt be starving to death.
11/27/2006 10:54:37 AM
Dental, if you seriously think the majority of the world is starving to death, I'm going to have to give you your retard card.I guess I should back it up though.http://www.elca.org/hunger/facts/facts.html

Can't see this working. If you took a cross-section of your typical Fox News watcher, would said person generally be the type to willingly accept satire? Satire, regardless of your political beliefs, requires said person to take his or her own views with a grain of salt while watching the satire in progress. Best example of this would be a Jewish person watching the Daily Show and all the "Jewish domination" conspiracy theories they make fun of on the show.Regardless, the fact that Fox News is attempting this is a feather in the cap of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.
11/27/2006 12:15:44 PM
Flying Ryan, condescension aside, you're probably right in that a typical Fox News watcher is not as likely to be a major fan of satire. But, keep in mind that this guy is probably not wanting to stick to Fox News. Ideally he'll get picked up by CC, but he's the guy from 24, so he has pull at News Corp, not Viacom. And Dental, I have no idea what we're talking about either. I think you were making some argument that we need Big Brother because Ethiopians are starving just kidding.
11/27/2006 12:25:37 PM
^ha well after reading Godwin im not sure that if we remove government everything will turn into this awesome place devoid of corruption. It might work but I dont know if humans are themselves devoid of corruption and that government is the entire problem.
11/27/2006 2:31:09 PM
You won't find too many full on anarchists among my group of friends and intellectual forefathers. There are very specific places where the federal government should be involved in protecting our rights. We have this thing called the Constitution for pointing out when that is. Unfortunately those in our Federal government are fed up with the limiting nature of it and are trying to slowly erode it. It isn't some conspiracy and it has nothing to do with "teh j00s" but it has everything to do with people in beauracratic positions seeking to extend their powers beyond the bounds that it was granted.Government is a necessary device that is simply overused.
11/27/2006 2:55:50 PM
hmmm.... wonder if Jon Stewart made fun of this
12/12/2006 7:30:54 AM
I wouldn't be terribly surprised if the show aired and drew a sizeable audience. The left has gained the political control they need in order to become new targets of humorous snipes. Let's admit it folks, the reason we haven't seen anything funny said about the left in 6 years is because the Republican party gave them only one role: lapdog. That said, it has the potential to even be a funny show. If it fails, I'd anticipate that it wouldn't be because it couldn't compete with the Daily Show, but because the two shows ended up looking alike.
12/12/2006 2:48:27 PM
^^i don't know iff'n they did or notbut if they did make fun of the situationwould it shut you fuckers up?
12/13/2006 12:48:25 AM
the goal shouldn't be shutting up the people who are exposing TDS bias.the goal should be accepting TDS bias and coming to terms with it

I hate to bring this back up but...
12/14/2006 12:25:17 PM
I think he meant that the goofy conservative gets a new asshole ripped...not Stewart
12/14/2006 1:38:27 PM
^ Yeah you're right, just reread it. I disagree with that too actually. I mean seriously, Stewart managed to have a relatively civil discussion with BILL O'REILLY, both on his show and on the O'Reilly factor. You'll notice only O'Reilly raises his voice, insults the other's fanbase, and tries to mock opposing viewpoints. The only time I've seen Stewart get visibly angry was on Crossfire, and Tucker had it coming anyway...
12/15/2006 12:37:02 PM
this kind of denial humor just rings untrue - it becomes unwatchable because audiences of any stripe can feel it's forcedthat's why Dennis Miller couldn't make it work
12/15/2006 2:00:08 PM
Jon Stewart had an amicable debate with Bill Kristol, the closest thing to Satan himself that the left could ever know. I saw a draw, as his interviews don't really provide enough time to win or lose a debate. They allow time enough for humorous gaffes, though. I find it highly dubious to suggest he gets his ass chewed out in any debates either. He's held his own in every interview I've ever seen.
