Don't forget that these people aren't just running two miles, touching a base, and then running two more miles. They're also choking down 12 donuts.

Whipped this up from some photos and footage of last year's event:http://webpages.charter.net/dscosgrove/KKCTrailer.mov

ahaha at chariots of firegg man
12/3/2006 11:07:41 AM
Wow, awesome video! Would you mind if we show that from our website? If so, I'll look into how to get that done. This also reminds me -- I'm trying to track down three camcorders for blanket video coverage of the event this year. I want one at the belltower, one on the course, and one at krispy kreme, and afterward we're going to put together a video of the whole thing.
12/3/2006 11:38:13 AM
You're welcome to post it. Be my guest. I made it for fun, but also as a promotional tool for the event.

I'll be signing up with a friend as casual runners. We're just going to split a dozen between us. Do we tell you guys this on the PayPal form?
12/6/2006 3:17:08 PM
Alee,Your idea is completely fine. On the PayPal page, there is a textbox where you write your T-shirt size. Go ahead and put a note there that you are a part of a team (with the team name) and that you'll be splitting a box of doughnuts. Have each of your friends indicate that team as well.Since casual runners in general are not going to be going for the full 12 doughnuts (and we won't be closely watching), we are planning on having several boxes available to those casual runners who would like them. We'll set aside a whole box with your team name on it.Thanks for your interest and hope to see you out there.
12/6/2006 3:38:03 PM
Just a followup to my post above....if you are a casual runner, we encourage partaking in a few donuts. However...the fewer donuts the casual runners consume the more money can go to the Children's Hospital. Your registration fee is helping to pay for these donuts, so we can't blame you for wanting a whole box for your own to take home or to work, but still. We're just kindly asking to use moderation. Thanks!

12/6/2006 11:26:36 PM
This thread is useless without pictures of fat people.
12/6/2006 11:29:33 PM
We're going to Sadlack's afterward, so add 5 to the puke count. [Edited on December 7, 2006 at 7:05 AM. Reason : .]

The Coz, nice job - the puke was a good touch.

Sign-up for the Krispy Kreme Challenge!!!It's the most fun you can have with a dozen doughnuts.
12/7/2006 9:42:11 AM
not quite the most fun
12/7/2006 9:58:17 AM
How long is registration open for? Me and one of my roommates are going to do it, but we're waiting to hear from a friend of ours if he wants to do a team.
12/8/2006 7:33:53 AM
DPK,Registration will be open until about a week before the race, so approximately January 20th. We are encouraging people to register as early as possible because it lets us know in advance how many t-shirts to get, how many doughnuts to have ready at the store, and other logistical issues like that. Thanks for the question.
12/8/2006 9:37:37 AM
We are at 83 registrants! We also have secured two sponsors with more hopefully along the way.Help us reach our goal of 100 registrants before Christmas! You can register at http://www.krispykremechallenge.com.Quick recap for some commonly asked questions:Q: Do I really have to eat a dozen doughnuts?A: Only if you want to! We have a category for people who just want to run the course, enjoy a doughnut or two, watch the mayhem at the store, and get a t-shirt. Q: What if I don't want to run at all?A: Sure. We have an 'observer' category which means you'll get a t-shirt and you can come cheer your friends on. Remember, this is a non-profit venture -- its going to the NC Children's Hospital.Q: Can I just get one of those cool t-shirts?A: Absolutely. Sign up as an 'observer' and let us know that you can't make it to Belltower on Jan. 27 but want a t-shirt. We will try to have a table out in the Brickyard the following week so you can come by and pick up your t-shirt there. For other questions, shoot us an email at krispykremechallenge@gmail.com. Hope to see you out there!
12/13/2006 12:49:24 PM
when is the deadline to register?
12/13/2006 3:15:11 PM
Wilso,Good question, it has come up a lot. It's like this. In order to get the t-shirts and the doughnuts, as well as to make sure we have enough volunteers on race day (so the powers at be don't shut it down on race day), the earlier people sign up the better. We are placing the t-shirt order a week before the race. If we have to order an additional batch of t-shirts after the race, it will be more expensive due to no bulk discount, so the registration fee will increase a bit for race-day registrants. We had a lot of people show up on race day last year and the turnout was great. This year, if 100 people show up on race day it is going to strain the logistics. I would hate for the doughnuts to run out!We totally understand that not everyone knows what they'll be doing more than a month from now. We are going to expect a lot of registrants Jan 10 to Jan 20, as people get back on campus and know what their schedule is going to be like. But still, the earlier people register the better everything will be.
12/13/2006 5:51:36 PM
i'm 90% certain i'm going to register in the next week or two, but i'm trying to get my friends to form a team with me first..
12/13/2006 7:59:05 PM
btttOur goal is to have 100 registrants by Christmas! Don't delay. Sign up now!
12/19/2006 12:13:57 AM
12/19/2006 12:19:18 AM
You should make your own event and be the inaugural competitor.
12/19/2006 8:54:25 PM
I'm considering doing this now, but since I'm trying to lose some weight gained from being unable to run, I might just do half a dozen or so.
12/20/2006 1:11:35 AM
A dozen doughnuts is not going to hurt you. 2400 calories less than a day's worth for an active person. Just don't eat a whole lot the rest of the day, and drink plenty of water. You'll burn it right off.
12/20/2006 2:26:17 AM
Looks like they beat the goal of 100 registrants before the new year. 116 registered so far with nearly a month to go. Not bad.
12/27/2006 11:44:43 AM
I'd just get to the doughnuts, eat them and quit.
12/27/2006 11:49:49 AM
Then go sign up as "Krispy"
12/27/2006 11:53:05 AM
4 miles in 30 mins no prob12 donuts in remaining 30 mins.. um wow. Thats gonna hurt
12/29/2006 11:31:48 AM
Quick update -- a sneak peek at the t-shirt is at our website http://www.krispykremechallenge.com We have 148 registrants so far. ROTC members, fraternities and sororities, come on out and register as a team! We are arranging a prize for the largest team that participates. Help us break our goal of 300+ participants![Edited on January 5, 2007 at 12:33 PM. Reason : fixed URL]

I was really interested in this at first, but I kind of feel like this might make me feel like I want to kill myself.
1/5/2007 12:35:49 PM
Crede,Remember, you don't have to eat the full dozen donuts. If you want to participate, you can sign up as a Casual Runner. You can run the course, get a t-shirt, eat one or two donuts, and have a great time. Hope you re-consider
1/5/2007 2:24:53 PM
I would consider it, but I'm actually very likely going to be out of town. Thanks anyway.
1/6/2007 12:55:16 PM
We matched last year's numbers just yesterday at 150!keep signing up! 300 runners does not seem like a wild idea anymore

1/14/2007 3:26:25 AM
Come back.
1/14/2007 2:36:47 PM
What kind of media coverage do you all anticipate at the event? I would imagine that the local news would be happy to take a break from the murders and car crashes for a light-hearted human interest story.
