^preach itwho has the slowest e30 here?does JonHGuth still have that eta? That'd probably be well up there in the runnings...[Edited on December 28, 2006 at 3:25 PM. Reason : .]

Mine is the 89 325i with a slushbox. Probably still faster than the 325e models.Something is going on with my kickdown cable. Shifts fine when you press it down far enough to engage the kickdown, but I have to let up on the throttle just a tad after the first shift with the kickdown cable engaged or else it doesn't shift again (and it nails the engine to the rev limiter in the process.) It's weird. I don't think it is a tranny issue though because it shifts very well in every gear at any RPM.

time for a drag race, who's bringing an eta
12/28/2006 4:17:28 PM
I guess they are all scared of the sedan.
12/29/2006 11:00:41 AM
But really, I've called on 2 more that were already sold... Anybody know one for sale? Already built, somewhat modified or just stock. All I ask for is a good deal.Ahmet

I couldnt find too many either. I was actually about to drive up to DC for a good prospect when i found mine locally.
12/29/2006 9:08:08 PM

I keep driving mine, but the odometer just stays the same. I've had 155k for 6 months.
12/30/2006 3:19:15 PM
Thanks for the heads up cally wally. I somehow can't get warmed up to that car. 1 out of 4 that I'm passing on isn't bad though. Now if I could just find another one...Ahmet
1/2/2007 1:40:34 AM
lol, all of the tww bmw lovers jumping off the e36 m3 bandwagon onto the e30 bandwagon.
1/2/2007 1:51:39 AM
Pretty sure we've all owned e30s before. Either way, much of the appeal is to have people you know doing track events in similar cars...Ahmet

Friends don't let friends drive slow cars.

FUCK YES FOR KRAUT GENERAL LEE
1/6/2007 1:20:06 AM
i can't believe how much money can go into a 20 year old race car
2/5/2007 10:52:54 PM
that heap is nothing but a glorified dd until you TT it. parking lots don't count, either
2/5/2007 11:56:51 PM
i'm sad cuz its true
2/5/2007 11:58:20 PM

2/7/2007 12:24:50 AM

I removed all the "tar" from my trunk several months ago and its sat around my room in a box waiting for me to get a scale to measure it. By removing both layers a total of 53 lbs came out of the cars trunk! A nice weight reduction in an already light car.
2/9/2007 4:45:55 PM
How'd you remove it, how long did it take, and dammit I'm still looking for one.Ahmet
2/9/2007 4:49:12 PM
^^that's pretty impressive.
2/9/2007 5:03:54 PM
Removing trunk tar, A/C, and the full-size spare drops a good bit of weight on these cars.I'd be interested to see what my car weighs in at- considering the mild track prep.
2/9/2007 5:11:12 PM
would one of the earlier generation 3 series work well?
2/9/2007 7:46:22 PM
^work well for...?
2/9/2007 7:54:23 PM
track rat
2/9/2007 8:06:05 PM
by earlier do you mean the e21 '75-'83 or e30 '84-'91?You see an e21 or so every once in awhile at the track. Unless they have an engine transplant, they're probably going to be the slowest thing on track, and finding parts/replacements would probably be a problem. Might be a cool track rat candidate- I know one of the senior nasa instructors has one.E30s are great track rats. Ubiquitous and cheap parts, donor cars, and lots of great resources/advice. They're not as popular at autox as they used to be, but they're still a mainstay of most HPDE organizations. Spece30 (the race class) seems to be as popular now as ever. Let me know if you have any questions about them! I'll post pics of my car after we take a few at VIR this weekend.
2/9/2007 9:22:57 PM
roll bar in and upper strut spring pads removed for more camber clearance.damn this car is fun to drive!

Anybody got a spare tire/rim with at least 15% tread? I have no spare tire. Trying to spend around $20.What other car wheels can I use as a spare? Would a steelie 4x100 from a Civic fit or would the backspacing be wrong?
2/18/2007 4:46:06 PM
My e30 search has officially been suspended Shame on all of you who couldn't find me one.Ahmet
2/21/2007 8:40:40 PM
glad to hear it. you saved us a lot of whining about them being slow and not performing to your rigorous standard.
2/21/2007 10:07:57 PM
But mine was going to be fast :'(Ahmet
2/21/2007 10:16:14 PM
PS: It's true, I whine way too much. I'm spoiled, and my means cannot keep up with my taste/preferences, which is too bad. E30s are still awesome, and I cry a little every time I see a cool one.Ahmet[Edited on February 21, 2007 at 10:17 PM. Reason : :'(]
2/21/2007 10:17:31 PM
Screw it, I want one anyway.Ahmet
2/23/2007 12:09:29 AM
finally got both ric0r seats and harnesses installed. pain in the ass. of course nothing i bought worked so i had to modify all sorts of shit. i still need to have someone (gk2004?) modify my seat bracket to lower it. i replaced the sliders w/ steel strips, but it still not quite low enough.her maiden voyage is tomorrow's autox testntune. hopefully itll keep together
2/24/2007 5:36:11 PM
The last e36 I was in had weird seats that weren't supportive at all:I mean, the driver was practically on me, and I was touching grass...And the trunk openning was annoyingly small too;But at least the trunk lid wouldn't get in the way:I really should just get an e30.Ahmet
2/25/2007 9:48:45 PM
oh shit.
2/25/2007 9:58:36 PM
How'd the autox go, Dan?
2/26/2007 9:20:59 AM
it was alright. i ran till i was about nausious. the car didnt fall apart so thats a plus. i need sway bars. the weight transfer was so slow my steering was like perfectly out of phase w/ the car's movement in slolums. hai also need to work on my seat. its still a bit too high and i would like the steering wheel closer. I'm gonna have to mod these brackets (already sliderless) like me and gk2004 did on my old brackets. my legs are good so id like to move the steering wheel closer. i wonder if theres such a thing as a spacer that works w/ a stock wheel. oh and the car rotates VERY well. i never drifted and countersteered so much in my life.. it might be hairy on the track .but all in all, a very fun little car. oh, and my LSD seems to be working great. it got tested pretty hard in the dry and wet yesterday. woot.[Edited on February 26, 2007 at 10:04 AM. 2/26/2007 6:33:08 PM
dont E30s require valve adjustment every 15k?
2/26/2007 8:42:25 PM
maybe every 150k hell maybe even 250k on my car
