11/29/2006 10:32:59 PM
They sent me a new 360....splendid. one problem...they told me specifically to send in my harddrive, then they didnt send it back. So I call last night, and apparantly they dont know where it is... told me they would call me @ 9am Eastern today to hatch it out...still havnt heard from them. I'm pissed.
12/1/2006 9:31:57 AM
They sent me a refurb console, it died almost as soon as I plugged it in.Back to the damn repair center for console replacement #4.For what little it means, I went ahead and filed a BBB complaint. Hopefully I'll get a new or at least playable system out of it.[Edited on December 1, 2006 at 12:20 PM. Reason : BBB]

Well I got my 360 back from MS today, working good so far...
12/6/2006 5:30:41 PM
mines officially freezing every 10 seconds now depending what game it is in. i emailed them and my mfg date is 12/05 so hopefully I should be able to get it repaired np.
12/9/2006 3:34:23 PM
Wow, with all the problems everyone seems to be having I doubt I'll ever get around to getting any next gen console. Seems like the chances of getting a defective unit, or a unit that quickly becomes unusable, are greater than getting one that will work.
12/11/2006 7:30:24 AM
mine worked for a long time with no real issues, but yes it is annoying. the games are quite fun though.
12/11/2006 8:47:36 AM
^^ These days, the average consumer has come to "expect" glitches and problems, so unless you're prepared to deal with it, then you will never be purchasing any new system.
12/11/2006 9:48:43 AM
I guess I'm old school in that if I drop some serious $ I expect the thing to work for me. Sounds like I won't be getting a next gen system... I'm fine with PC games.
12/11/2006 9:57:44 AM
^^ to be fair, gamecube and xbox were relatively problem free. i know xbox had a few cd issues, but ps2 was the only system known for its constant death. this round hasnt been so lucky.^ i think the newer batches are doing much better, just that there are a lot of old ones still having problems and MS's replacement service isnt up to par[Edited on December 11, 2006 at 10:04 AM. If you use a non-microsoft controller in your Xbox-360 it will freeze up. My brother had this issue, and once we removed the controller it has worked fine ever since.
12/11/2006 2:01:11 PM
how long? ive always used the regular controller that came with the system. id freeze a ton and then stop for a while and then do it again.
12/11/2006 2:09:15 PM
He got his xbox about a month ago, but I figured I would post that information in case it was the cause of the freeze ups for other posters in this thread.
12/11/2006 2:14:24 PM
mines officially dead. instead of freezing it went black and alas the red ring finally came
12/11/2006 2:22:21 PM
has anyone had problems with a xbox they've purchased new in the last few months?i'm getting my 360 on thursday and you guys are worrying the fuck out of me.

I have had mine for about four months. The only irritating thing (that just started in the last few days), is that sometimes the dvd drive doesn't want to open up without a little force. Too bad its not under warranty anymore [Edited on December 14, 2006 at 3:09 PM. Reason : engrish]

Ive had my 360 for over a year now and its still running strong. No problems so far!!! I got the ring of death one time while playing a game. I rebooted and she started back up without a hitch.
12/23/2006 8:25:31 PM
I'm still waiting for my fourth replacement console to show up; I sent out the dead refurb on the 6th of this month. No answer on the BBB complaint yet either though I'm not really suprised.
12/23/2006 9:22:54 PM
^what do you do to your systems? i still have mine from launch running strong. i think some people just don't take care of their stuff...mine has never even crashed. i keep it off the carpet and other surfaces that would make it overheat and always go to the dashboard to stop the disc before shutting down and it's worked perfectly. maybe i just got lucky though.just curious, to the ones who have had problems...did you keep your system vertical or horizontal? mine has been vertical for about 8 months, but now it sits horizontal with lots of space around it in the entertainment center. [Edited on December 23, 2006 at 9:30 PM. Reason : .]
12/23/2006 9:29:57 PM
i played mine for about a year before it died (doesnt ring, just crashes constantly). it is on its own shelf with tons of room around it sitting horizontally. i dont play it for hours or end (save for a few times on oblivion) and it jsut slowly got worse and worse. just a run of bad luck methinks.
12/23/2006 10:24:31 PM
^^Absolutely nothing, I only play 3-4 hours a week. The main problem is the refurbs that they send out after they have "fixed" the broken consoles. They don't seem to actually check to see what's wrong and they certainly don't test the consoles after repairing them.I had a launch console that lasted until about February of this year, a refurb that lasted until October, a refurb that lasted a month and a refurb that was DOA. I'm sure that when they eventually get around to sending me a new one it will last for a good while.[Edited on December 24, 2006 at 7:23 AM. Reason : damn MS]
12/24/2006 7:19:33 AM
i got a 360 on the first launch and (knock on wood for over a year old) it hasnt had a single problem, no crash, no freeze, nothing....i guess i may have gotten lucky, i keep it away from other electrical devices sitting horizontally, and i just shut it straight down from the controller...read about the dashboard shutdown, but i havent seen a problem with my cds or anything yet
12/24/2006 7:41:42 AM
yeah the only time ive ever had a problem with disk reads was on oblivion, which i played for 80 hours. every other game i powered down normally and had 0 scratches.
12/24/2006 8:10:30 AM
Yeah, I've never had the console scratch any of my games/movies. That's one thing that would really piss me off; console failures I can understand but if it destroys my games that's another thing.

Microsoft is Refunding all repair orders for all Xbox360 that needed to be worked on in the last year. Theyu have extended the warranty on all 360s to 1 year to compete with the Wii and PS3. If you paid for a repair, you will be issued a check and you should have it 6-8 weeks from now. I am currently on my 3rd 360 and getting ready to send it off for my 4th. I hate talking to the 17 year old teckies they hired to try to help me trouble shoot my 360 with them. My shit won't get passed the loading screen. I don't even get the 3 red lights until after i try to reboot. The stupid bitch kept telling me that it was an AV cable problem. I said how do you figure? She said that she has to assume that this is the first thing that is wrong. I told her that she was a moron and to please send me to another customer support person. She then asked me what I thought the problem was....I was like, it WON"T FUCKING BOOT! Its not 4 red lights (AV cable error). She was quiet for about 3 minutes before she said that she was going to get me a Repair order. I kindly told her that a repair order was not good enough and I needed to be issued a new 360. O told her that this would be my 4th and if it didn't work, i was going to return it and get a PS3. I get my "new" 360 in 2 weeks!
12/26/2006 11:51:13 AM
I got the "3 Rings of Death" yesterday. I'm bumming right now. I guess Microsoft is the only recourse, huh?
3/23/2007 9:06:35 AM
i had 3 red lights of death during spring break of all times... just got it back yesterday... works just fine except now i can't get the halo 2 map packs working right again
3/23/2007 9:56:12 AM
i fixed mine by doing the hot air gun fix.basically you take the 360 apart, heat the GPU, CPU, and the RAM chips with a hot air gun, wait alil while, assemble the 360, and you're good to go.the problem is as of April of last year, companies have been forced not to use lead solder on their products because of a health factor. as a result of this, microsoft went and got some real cheap solder to use on their 360s with really poor metal qualities (very low melting point). what happens is when you're playing for say 45min-2hrs, the solders get hot and start to melt from all the information they're having to relay throughout the board. then when you turn it off right after playing, the metal cools pretty fast and develops cracks, rendering the solder useless because it doesn't transmit the data on to the next point. search the internets for a DIY on the hot air gun fix.good day

BTTTI got my system a week or two ago.Played fine for a few days, now i get a message saying "to play this disc put it in an xbox 360 console" 9 times out of 10, depending on the game.Gears of War I get it almost every time, and if I can get it started it lets me play for 15 minutes before telling me the disc is unreadable. Guitar Hero is hard to get started, but afterwards I can play as long as I want, and Burnout I can pop in and play forever every time.WTF is the deal?I'm not positive, but I'm going to assume that this isn't under warranty (purchased refurbished).[Edited on April 10, 2007 at 5:16 PM.
