rjrumfel: this thread is about goodfellas and other scorsese films.you mentioned "once upon a time in ny".as far as i know this movie does not exist.you are thinking of either "gangs of new york" (which is a fucking great scorsese film)or"once upon a time in america" a sergio leone film (of "the good, the bad, and the ugly" fame) which also starred robert de niro and in my opinion licked balls compared to other sergio leone films. i was severely dissappointed when i saw it.

I'd put Godfather and Goodfellas on the same level. I could see why some would say Goodfellas is a better movie, but overall they're about the same imo. Goodfellas is a lot easier to follow but once you get the plot of the godfather its pretty hard to beat.

oh shit guysmy apologies, I was talking about once upon a time in americaand I didnt know that was a leone film

The Godfather is a mob movie on such a large scale that everything Pacino does has some consequence because everyone i watching him.goodfellas being basically a neighborhood "Family", they dont have AS much to deal withGoodfellas is definately mirrored in the Sopranos in more ways than simply having part of the cast. The family, the wives, the business, getting made, meetings for killing made men, etc

wanna read a good book? read the actual donnie brasco book that the movie was based off of. It was ten times better than the movie.

^^yeah i've always been interested in that booki've watched goodfellas with the commentary turned on of the real Henry Hill and the main FBI agent...thats some insightful shit right there as well...like Joe Pesci's character in real life was just as violent and brutal, but he was also like 6'3" 260
10/20/2006 9:56:18 AM
Joe Pesci is the fucking man...he plays almost the exact same guy in Casino
10/20/2006 9:57:25 AM
he's a little more out there in casino i thinkyou know casino is the first movie where vincent actually kills pesci, unlike goodfellas, raging bull, etc where pesci kills vincent
10/20/2006 10:08:33 AM
haha thats exactly what i said to myselfi was like, he finally got that fuck

Im almost done with the book, its greatturns out Henry Hill spent most of his youth running back and forth from the warehouses in NC with stolen cigarettes...also, he and Karen got married in Walden NC... later they had a jewish wedding, like in the movie

Read every Mario Puzo book you can get your hands on. Although one or two are kind of "so-so"...the rest of his book are pretty awesome. "The Godfather" is one of the best books I've ever read...4 or 5 hundred pages that I finished in like a day and a half. It was only topped by "The Sicilian", which I was pissed that they made a shitty movie about. "The Family" is pretty money too.

Gangsters and Goodfellas is a good follow up to Wise Guy.It picks up where the book left off and discusses Hill's reaction to the movie a bit as well.
