I can't believe that no one has speculated that his speach was just a little tounge-in-cheek.
9/21/2006 10:27:36 AM

How bout a 1$ million dollar debate between Chomsky and Nick Berg on the peaceful religion of islam? Ooops...game called because of be-heading!
9/21/2006 11:21:25 AM
What debate? Chomsky would call out the beheaders as unpeaceful.

You know you've probably crossed a line somewhere if you can get Nancy Pelosi to speak in defense of the President.
9/21/2006 1:37:41 PM
Rangel too, good stuff on YouTube
9/21/2006 3:02:33 PM
Nancy Pelosi: "I'd like for Hugo Chavez to single-handedly shatter the Democrats' chances in November..."Seems like this'd pretty much wrap it up for the GOP.
9/21/2006 3:33:00 PM
^naw, $2/gal gas took care of that
9/21/2006 4:29:07 PM
the fact that chavez's actions would be linked to the dems shows hom much of a joke they have become.youre seeing now just how out of the mainstream they are.
9/21/2006 4:31:57 PM
Chavez made a fool out of himself, and those who take him seriously from now on will look like fools, also.
9/21/2006 7:19:11 PM
The guy is a great man and this is no "extreme" view. He's just expressing how MOST of the rest of the world feels about the United States (especially under Bush).he went to Harlem today and could barely start his speech because people were chanting his name so graciously.CHAVEZ!!!!...CHAVEZ!!!!!...CHAVEZ!!!!!!if anything he maybe could overthrow our governmentthinking we own the world. Iran can't even have nuclear energy?
9/21/2006 7:29:30 PM

I think she meant "extreme" in the context of the rest of the world. They likely wouldn't see it as extreme.

These "underground bunkers" are too secure for a simple flash bombing run.The marginal loss of Israel invading the several "hidden underground bunkers" against the largest army in the world is much greater than Iran making one. Then they (weapons factories or w/e might not even be there after you invade) you know, kind of reminds me of another situation...hmm
9/21/2006 8:00:19 PM
^what????
9/21/2006 8:02:18 PM
Why do we even pay attention to Chavez?

[On March 18, 2005] Chavez handed [Venezuela's minister of communication and information Andres] Izarra a still-bigger stick: a new penal code that criminalizes virtually any expression to which the government objects -- not only in public but also in private.Start with Article 147: "Anyone who offends with his words or in writing or in any other way disrespects the President of the Republic or whomever is fulfilling his duties will be punished with prison of 6 to 30 months if the offense is serious and half of that if it is light." That sanction, the code implies, applies to those who "disrespect" the president or his functionaries in private; "the term will be increased by a third if the offense is made publicly."There's more: Article 444 says that comments that "expose another person to contempt or public hatred" can bring a prison sentence of one to three years; Article 297a says that someone who "causes public panic or anxiety" with inaccurate reports can receive five years. Prosecutors are authorized to track down allegedly criminal inaccuracies not only in newspapers and electronic media, but also in e-mail and telephone communications.

I think you're already seeing a large portion of Latin America already start to distance themselves from Chavez. For example, Peru's recent election was between one of Chavez' allies (or alleged ally) and the guy that ruined the country in the 1980s. And the Peruvians, despite having recent memory of the previous president and 2.5 million % inflation rates, still elected him over the Chavez-like candidate.[Edited on September 22, 2006 at 5:55 PM. might I add that Brazil and Ven are in a bit of a spat namely because Brazil set up some factories and invested $$$. Then Ven said they are ours, you need to leave. I personally find it funny since brazil has a tendency to steal our stuff (mainly crops)

I liked how earlier tonight CNN regarded this story as BREAKING NEWS.Like it really matters in the long run. He tried to pull a Kruschev and only succeeded in looking like a silly imitation to the rest of the world, or so it seems.good luck in your home country, chavez. now shut up.

Regarding corruption in Venezuela:http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/americas/09/25/guatemala.prison.reut/index.htmlWhile sending troops in to end it is a good sign, the fact that such a situation could arise is pretty terrible.
