not an error message per se, but it is a funny error

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.documents.flowdocument.iscolumnwidthflexible.aspx

Quote :
"If IsColumnWidthFlexible is false, this FlowDocument will always have 4 columns of width 100.
Because IsColumnWidthFlexible is true, this FlowDocument may be laid out such that the width of the is more than 100, resluting in fewer than 4 columns."

saw one on a web app at work...it was something along the lines of 'this error will trigger after 1-1-2010, but then if we're still using this application in 2010, something has gone horrible wrong'

My friend and I put in messages in our micro controller for debuggin. One was something like "Yea Nigga" for something working correctly and the other was "Jew" for an error. Well we didn't clear the entire string every time so when it hit the error it came out as "Jew Nigga"

Not exactly an error message, but still something that can only be done by Microsoft.

And yes I did upgrade to 7 as soon as I could.

No great shakes to most of you, but I support a Visual Basic .NET application, and there are numerous cases in our friggin' releases where users might encounter the dreaded "object reference not set to an instance of an object." It's hard enough explaining to my co-workers what that means, let alone clients.

doesn't seem that great of an error message by itself, but when you're the software vendor this is SPARTAAWESOME

was looking at this at work today:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa511267.aspx

some absolute gems in there.

also, I don't know if it makes me happy or sad that MS has such a thoroughly well documented set of UX principles and developers still ignore them. It makes me want to have a beer or 11 with the author(s) of that guide.

Noen can speak to that probably

It's done by lots of software companies. Making critical security patches easily reversed doesn't make sense at all. Microsoft is protecting your identity and data

i know this post is old, but i can't help but point out that for recaptcha one word is the captcha, and one word is you decoding words from books that google's computers can't identify. so you can put whatever you want for the chinese characters.

Hm. The one I always get (in VS 2010) is:

Quote :
"The file has been modified outside the source editor. Do you want to reload it and lose the changes made in the source editor"

^ and ^^

The reason that happens is the way TFS handles workspaces and changes. Up to and including VS2010, TFS uses server workspaces and ONLY tracks local changes through Visual Studio.

Basically, everything you do locally is stored serverside (check out, adds, deletes etc). When you check in your changes, what actually happens is VS sends the files to the server which syncs the actual files with the command changes and then commits them to the repository.

The major, major headache to this (as you guys are pointing out) is that if you edit a file outside of VS in any way, TFS has no clue about it. No idea what, if anything changed, if the file even still exists.

With TFS11 (part of VS11), there are now local workspaces (and they are on by default). This means you can edit, move, change, rename files under TFS Version Control with anything and TFS will handle the changes.

For more detail on it, check this blog post out:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/bharry/archive/2011/08/02/version-control-model-enhancements-in-tfs-11.aspx

TLDR; - This is frustrating as shit in VS2010 and prior. It's completely fixed in VS11, so go download the Beta, and use TFS11 along with it
