if you won't Chuck fired, who do you really think we could get as a replacementand please don't invalidate yourself by saying Cowher. Cowher bought the house because he's trying to get money out of Pitt on his next contract.....I guess what I'm asking is this - why do some think that firing our coach would move the program forward? If anything, it would set us back, like we're going to experience in the next couple of basketball seasons...
9/9/2006 9:22:10 PM
wait till the season is over. if we make a bowl i am cool with chuck. let him finish the seaosn that is one fluke game and youre ready to fire him. we could win the acc.
9/9/2006 9:26:35 PM
I don't want Chuck fired, but I'm rethinking the fact that I've always said he would make us a really solid program. No QB in 3 years.... anemic offenses..... lose to Akron
9/9/2006 9:26:57 PM
have u noticed that since chuck got bood on the jumbotron last year, he hasn't been on it again?
9/9/2006 9:48:21 PM
At least our offense did get into a little bit of a rhythm in the fourth quarter. What happened was a defensive meltdown with a young/inexperienced defensive unit....but our overall performance today was piss poor
9/9/2006 9:57:57 PM
im not for firing chuck but we might could get the old ball coach if we dished the right money.
9/9/2006 10:03:30 PM
i heard we're getting rick barnes
9/9/2006 10:04:15 PM
its not all chuck people. trestman calls the plays. im not for mutiny BUTi think chuck has done a lot for the program and has helped the facilities etc etc.however, when asked if he felt the heat before the season, his comments were all based on the stadium and facilities he has brought here. something about that is wrong. he should be more concerned about results and not money. Now it doesnt mean we have to win every single game but the fact that no matter what team we play, we play to their level. if we play Akron we play to their level. if we play FSU we play to that level. if we play wake forest we play to their level. there is never any consistency. that is the problem people have with chuck. how do you lose to carolina at home, win AT FSU and GT, lose to wake, get embarrased on ESPN against clemson. We have sparks of greatness which get fans hopes up.
9/9/2006 10:17:33 PM
sorry, i haven't seen this posted anywhere elsewhy did andre only have 3 carries today? did he get hurt? i wasn't able to make the game b/c i had to work. i would hope that it just wasn't amato's choice b/c by the stats anyway baker did not have a good gamethanks
9/9/2006 10:40:45 PM
i think it was his hamstring. didnt look serious. prolly just to be cautious
9/9/2006 10:46:31 PM
alright good, thanks for the updatedoes anyone else think that this could have cost us the game?baker only 18 carries for 36 yards and brown has proven to be by far our best backdid it look like it could have made a diff. for those of you at the game?
9/9/2006 10:47:33 PM
They said bruised hip on the radio. Either way, he was hurt
9/9/2006 10:50:45 PM
well baker lost 22 yards (i think it was 22) on a bad snap he picked up. wasnt his fault, so those #'s are probably not accurate
9/9/2006 10:51:04 PM
Baker did a good job out there, especially catching it out of the backfield

i guarantee you if herb was still here nobody would be calling him a great coach
9/9/2006 11:01:56 PM
^Umm I would. We ran off the wrong coach and our fans are too fucking dumb to realize it.

9/9/2006 11:35:55 PM
^ oh my bad, I just felt like he had to be supporting the gay blue, but either way he is a douchebag
9/9/2006 11:40:08 PM
A mid season firing is not warranted and can actually hurt a coaching search, considering that chuck hasn't been here that long. However, if the opportunity to upgrade presents itself, we need to hop on that with the quickness.I wonder if chuck realizes his job rested on the likes of jay davis and stone?[Edited on September 10, 2006 at 12:42 AM. Chuck needs to go. He's simply not a good coach. The only 'decent' seasons he's had is when the team was stacked with young talent being lead by Rivers. You can't say that last years team didn't have talent...because umm...the first round of the NFL draft says we did. I've never understood how you can have the type of season we did last year while having that much talent on a team.Grant it, Stone is bad...plain and simple. He's a practice player, not a college football player. He looks great in practice and during warm ups but come game time I've seen him suck his nuts up in his stomach way too many times to be the leader of a big school in the ACC. I'm honestly starting to think that, that may not be all Stone's fault either. Heck this is the second quarterback to come through here and look that way.To who ever made the comment about Chuck leading us to bowls...give me a break...you win 6 games you go to bowl. College bowl games means crap. It's like making the NIT if you're not in a BCS game.
9/10/2006 1:00:45 AM
Oh, and if Chuck is the motivational type...well that doesn't say much. Have you ever heard the man try to give a speech? Be serious...

There are about 15-25 people who matter in any coaching change barring an incident (such as the one with Baylor's BB coach which made it open and shut). And of ours, no one is screaming to fire Amato, he has the support of the BOT/top faculty, AD, and the top WPC people for now. I know it's going to shock some of you that the people in charge don't read TWW or PP or listen to Mark May and base their opinion off that. ESPN and the N & O (rightfully so, Amato is sometimes flat out rude to them) is putting him on the hot seat, not anyone of importance. Think, if he'd beaten UNC the past two seasons (when he should have), no one would be talking about this as our ACC record would have been .500 both years and the UNC program would be worse than it is (tough to get any worse with theri start to 06), and yea the Akron game was bad, but follow Akron the rest of the way and see how they end up.edit: You also have to at least have an idea of who you want to hire and have a realistic shot at them. Cowher went to school here, and his wife, and has family down here. Where one goes from those facts to him wanting to coach here is beyond me, but I guess it makes for good entertainment.[Edited on September 10, 2006 at 10:57 PM. Herb most certainly did not. Most top WPC people who didn't want Sendek around voiced it to the AD quietly. And then there was Dail who was quoted as saying Herb didn't have the support of the fanbase (the important part of the fanbase). Weather it was fair is a different issue.
9/10/2006 11:10:40 PM
Then why is the basketball practice center named after the Dails? The TOP ones did support him.Wendell Murphy is the one that counts and he loved Herb.
9/10/2006 11:11:48 PM
9/10/2006 11:16:10 PM
Boozie, The naming rights are for large donations, did you really not know that? Dail was quoted in his local newspaper that he thought that Sendek didn't have the support of the top WPC members, he wasn't saying he, himself didn't support Sendek, just referring to the overall feeling from the top dogs as he has a larynx and a telephone. I can't really make it any more cut than that. A public statement like that usually never happens, so that would lead me to think it was for real. The ones who matter don't gripe publicly, so all these espn guys are just for entertainment purposes to me. Also, I wouldn't expect Murphy to say anything other than he likes all the coaches publicly, now what goes on behind closed doors only a few would witness.
9/10/2006 11:23:27 PM
You're right, but if you think the voice of the likes of ESPN and the fanbase go UNHEARD, you're wrong about that. The TOP dogs might not read this board but we don't see anything too much differently than they do and they certaintly aren't fans of bad PR on national sports networks...
9/11/2006 12:46:06 AM
I'm not exactly on the bandwagon to fire Amato yet(but it's getting tempting as of late), but if you are looking for serious candidates to take over the job should he get fired then I think that Logan would be a great candidate(seriously).
